Old Man's Quest

A cool breeze blows in ruffling my long hair, birds are flying about. As I lay back snacking on an apple I gaze at the beautiful landscape atop the tower.

Like magic, I see a person with a paraglider appear out of nowhere. Slowly they approach, finishing the rest of my apple I get up ready to greet him.

Gliding in he stopped a few feet away from me before speaking.

"So you've awakened" (Old Man)

Not wanting to waste time I try to skip to the quest dialogue.

"Give me your paraglider" (Link)

"Now hold on a minute, you must do something for me first" (Old Man)

Staying quiet the Old Man continued speaking.

"Nothing in this world is free, it's all give and take. I'm willing to do an offer, if you conquered the 4 shrines on the plateau I'll give you my paraglider. Is that a deal?" (Old Man)

I only nod to that.

"I'll be at my house when you're done" (Old Man)

Jumping off the Old Man glided away, presumably towards the location of his house.

Descending the tower I head to the closest shrine, the Oman Au Shrine. Using the map feature I estimate it is an hour away from the tower.

The terrain to the shrine was rougher than I expected so it took me more than 2 hours to get there. I avoided large groups of monsters as I didn't have the strength to fight them yet. The shrine looked like a cone with a round top, near the closed entrance was a pedestal. Using the Sheikah Slate the shrine lit up opening the entrance, it also created a teleportation circle in front of the entrance. The inside looked like an elevator, standing in the middle, I began to descend.

Underneath the shrine was a futuristic-looking garage. Getting out of the elevator I see a pedestal to the left. Using the Sheikah Slate I insert it in, after a few moments the blue lights stopped flashing. Grabbing the Sheikah Slate I checked to see the new feature, it was Magnesis. It allows me to manipulate metallic objects using magnetism. Selecting the feature I target the Sheikah Slate at the metal trap doors on the floor. Any metallic object seen through the Sheikah Slate glowed pink. Holding the Sheikah Slate I pressed the "activate" button, one of the doors glowed yellow, raising my arm the door levitated up. Moving the door to the side I enter the hole.

In the hallway, I continue down a path until I enter a room with a stone wall. Looking around I found a metal box. Using Magnesis I lift the box and repeatedly crash it into the wall. After a while, I was able to make a gap big enough for me to fit through. On the other side of the wall was a level 1 guardian scout, upon seeing me it prepared for battle. It had 3 legs arranged in a triangular pattern, its head looked like a ball cut in half. Charging its laser blast I notch an arrow and hit its eye, stunning it I use this opportunity to use Magnesis. No matter how many times I press "activate" the guardian scout wouldn't glow yellow. Recovering from its stun it began to charge up again, using my bow I tried to hit its eye again but it dodged to the right. Finished charging the guardian scout fired, dropping to the ground I was able to avoid it. Missing its target the guardian scout once again charged its laser, using the delay between charges I race towards it. Using my sword I pierce its eye ending it, slowly it powers down before self-destructing. Getting caught in the blast I took a bit of damage.

Wondering why Magnesis didn't work on the guardian scout I decided to read its description thoroughly.

[Target object with the Sheikah Slate... Magnesis cannot be used on animate objects]

I thought that since the guardian scout was made of metal I could use Magnesis, I didn't know that one of the requirements was that the object had to be inanimate. I was lucky that time, but next time I should read the description carefully.

The guardian scout left behind some screws and gears. In front of me, I now face a pair of large metallic doors, using Magnesis I open the doors revealing a ghastly being in a futuristic transparent box. The being was grey and wrinkled, I didn't know if it was dead or alive. Getting closer I touched the box only to have the transparent material shatter, then it spoke.

'You have proven to possess the resolve of a true hero. I am Oman Au the creator of this trial...'

At the end of its long statement, it gave me a spirit orb. After healing me it slowly turned to dust and disappeared. Magically I was transported back to the entrance of the shrine.

Seeing that I had plenty of sunlight left I decided to use Magnesis to search for buried items. Using Magnesis I was able to find a rusty shield and claymore. The shield has a guard of 3, meaning any weapon that does less than 3 damage won't be able to break my guard. The claymore did 12 damage, a massive damage upgrade to my sword. However, the claymore is a 2 handed weapon so I can't use it with a shield. Opting for more defense I go with the sword and shield combo. As I searched for more items chuchus emerged from a nearby pond. In total there were 5 of them, 3 medium and 2 large ones.

Boxing me in I knew better than to fight all 5 at once, so I selected the teleportation circle atop the Great Plateau Tower and teleport there. The moment I pressed the Sheikah Slate my vision went black, then I was on top of the Great Plateau Tower.

"Running away from chuchus, how pathetic" (Link)

I need to be able to use my power freely or else I'll never be able to defeat Ganon at this rate.

My power is super-speed however I can only activate it in near-death situations. Or perhaps it is more of a reflex from the inexperience of having this power.

Thinking back on all the times I used it, what did I feel? Scared? Excited?

The first time I triggered my power was when I nearly died to that blue bokoblin near the first campsite. On my mind, all I wanted was to live. The next time I triggered my power was with the encounter with the lynel, when it saw me I nearly died from fear but my power didn't activate. It was only when it tried to end me with its bow that my power activated. At that time I figured out that this wasn't a dream anymore so I wanted to live.

Seeing a pattern I wanted to try something crazy. Standing on the edge of the tower I looked down, my heart raced for what I was about to do next. Taking a deep breath I jumped off, my power didn't activate. I continued falling for a few seconds, still nothing. Getting nervous I flailed around regretting what I just did. The ground got closer and closer.

"Oh man, I'm going to die aren't I. What was I thinking!" (Link)

I don't want to die, I don't want to die. I want to live! I became determined to live. Noticing that I seemed to be falling slower, I hurriedly pulled out the Sheikah Slate and teleported to the top of the tower. Laying down I breathed hard, my body was in shock from the stunt. Letting out a weak laugh I smirk.

"This might actually work" (Link)
