Strolling her luggage around the campus while waiting for Nicholas, a man in a black leather jacket abruptly covered Adeline's eyes. Instead of hitting the man and calling for help to protect herself, Adeline stayed calm, not knowing who the mysterious man was.
"You're really leaving?" The man gave her a back hug. "I'm not gonna give up..."
After hearing the man's voice, Adeline recognized him in an instant. "Let go of me, Julian. Nicholas and I are leaving in a few minutes."
"I need you in my life. You can't just leave all our memories here."
"I've endured the worst times of life alone. I don't need anyone."
"Don't think you have a chance now that Nicholas and Ella aren't together anymore. It depends—"
"I'm telling him everything tomorrow." Adeline turned around and looked away. "No one can stop me."
"I'm afraid to lose you even if you aren't mine." Julian fell to his knees. "Don't do it... I can't stand seeing you with him..."
"I'm sick of crying and tired of loving. I want this all to end, but my feelings for him won't change!Ever since he met Ella, I started avoiding him, hoping that my feelings would go away, but they just seemed to get stronger. I had a lot of sleepless nights thinking of how I'd be able to face him each day! So why can't you just leave me alone...? I've already told you that I like someone else!"
"Stop letting people who do so little for you control your emotions. It seems likes your heart just needs more time to accept what your mind already knows."
Adeline grabbed his shoulders. "I don't love you! I never will! How many times do you want me to repeat that?"
Julian covered his ears as he started walking around in circles. "That's not true! Why would you love a man that doesn't even love you—"
Adeline couldn't bear to hear him finish what he was saying, so without hesitation, she slapped him as tears started flowing down her cheeks. "Stop it will you?" Adeline cried. "You're hurting me even more..."
"He doesn't love you. Stop hoping that you have a special place in his heart!"
"That's right! I might not be special to him, but what matters is I want to be with him. It doesn't matter if I'm only a childhood friend in his eyes. I love him and no one can change that."
"Your hurting yourself and the people around you."
"I don't feel anything when I'm with you." Adeline removed her necklace and threw it onto the floor. "What can I do to make you stop? Money? Jewelry? I can give it all!"
Julian grabbed her wrist. "I'm sorry." He picked up the necklace and placed it in Adeline's hand. "I just didn't want you to get hurt."
"Doesn't everyone say that? You're just making excuses."
"Please. Let's just stop."
"I won't—"
"I'll leave and never show up in front of you again. Is that the only way to make you happy?"
"That's not what I was trying to—"
Julian covered her mouth. "I understand. You just didn't want to hurt me either."
"I've forgotten how to love." Adeline looked away. "I don't want to let anyone in because I'm afraid of getting hurt all over again."
"I'd like to ask a favor before I leave." Julian took a few steps back. "Hear me out."
"Then if you—"
"I love you, Adeline." Julian smiled and turned around. "I might not be able to get a place in your heart, but at least I was able to be a part of your life. All I ever wanted was for you to be free from pain."
Adeline held his arm. "Is this our last goodbye?"
Julian patted her head. "I'll be sure to win your heart in the next life, Adele. Wait for me...alright?"
