"You...expected this?" Peter moved back.
The man smiled. "You grew up to be like me, of course I did."
"What...?"
"You killed Ella...like how I killed your mother. Isn't that great?"
"Great my ass."
"You dare talk to me like that? I'm your father!"
"Not anymore. We have nothing to do with each other."
"It's been years and I guess you haven't changed a bit. You've always been mama's boy!"
"Whatever. I don't wanna talk to you."
"I gave you everything...son...but you still chose to defend her!"
"Her love was more important than those useless things you've bought for me! Do you think I only care about money? I have a heart, dad. Yes, you did give me almost everything I wanted, but you've
never stopped comparing me with other children! You wanted me to be like them!"
"That was what's best for you."
"You just did that because you were jealous, dad. You were ashamed of me."
(Flashback)
Fifteen years ago...
"You're taking piano lessons in the morning, swimming in the afternoon and—"
"Dad!" Peter cried. "I'm tired...please...I wanna rest."
"You can't and you shouldn't. Look at those other children? They're good at everything, but you? You're just a piece of trash!"
"Honey," Peter's mom touched his shoulder. "You shouldn't be comparing him to other children. They all have different strengths."
"Tell me then." Peter's dad clenched his fist. "What can he do?"
"He'll eventually find a hobby."
"That's what you said before and was there any result? He's still the same old fool!"
"I'll prove it to you, dad... I don't want you to be ashamed of me," Peter sighed.
"Ashamed?" his father laughed. "I don't need to be ashamed because I never had a son like you!"
"Is that how much you hate me? Then don't accept me as your son then! I never accepted you as my father anyway!"
"I'm preparing you for the future and you don't even appreciate it!"
"Preparing?" Peter rolled his eyes. "Dad, seems more like you're comparing!"
"If you don't—"
"I can be who I want to be, so don't tell me what to do because by the time I reach adulthood, you don't have any single control of my life anymore."
(Present time)
"I told you," the man said, "Nicholas is always gonna be better than you."
Peter clenched his fist. "How could you even say—"
"Look at where you are now, son. You're not even close to success."
"I guess that's still what you care about after all these years huh? You never changed."
"As if you did."
"I—"
"Good luck by the way." the man stood up. "I heard you're getting executed in a few days as you're guilty in court."
(At Nicholas' apartment)
"You..." Adeline pointed at Nicholas. "It wasn't even renovated! You liar!"
Nicholas grabbed her hand. "I told you that it was just an excuse for me to stay with you."
"B-But—"
"You're living here now." Nicholas kissed her forehead. "Do you not know?"
"You... How about my stuff? Are you crazy?"
"Your parents are on the way to bring it here."
"Why did you—"
"While waiting, don't you think we should do something first?"
"I-I'll go get some food."
Nicholas grabbed her waist and kissed her lips. "Don't act like you don't know."
"You...we can't do that here! What if they come in?"
"I don't mind."
"What's the use of me even living with—"
"It's for you to have experience."
"In what?"
Nicholas brought his face closer and smirked. "My wife."
Adeline covered her face to hide her red cheeks. "W-What are you saying. You haven't even proposed and I haven't agreed yet."
"I know your answer anyway."
"What if I say no?"
"You can't."
"Why not?"
"Cause I won't let you." Nicholas gave her a peck on her lips. "I'll keep kissing you till you say yes."
"I can sue you for that."
"That won't happen."
"What makes you say so?"
"It's because I know you want it too."
