Chapter Thirteen

I broke out from the living room's windows when my sister fell asleep. Gratefully, she had work today and I knew she dozed off around this time. The window pane suffocated me because it had tight rims around, but I managed to squeeze soundlessly as my sister flopped to the other side of the couch. Thank God, I didn't eat much today.

The freezing wind made my body shiver vigorously but when a girl was in a mission, she had to do everything in her will to concentrate. That was my case when I dashed off to the guy with the bicycle, pushed him forcefully and cycled my way to school. The poor guy screamed his lungs out behind me but I blocked the sound and went faster, my fingers tight around the handle.

My parents were smart for once. They made sure their house was beside the school.

My kneecaps almost combusted at the sudden pressure as I gave everything in me to reach the building.

"Yes!" I cheered at the view of the people with popcorn in their hands around the stadium. I paddled to the back of the match and placed the bicylce next to a random pole. I hugged my sweater for some warmth when I stepped into the stadium.

The crowds booed at the game as my eyes searched for the bronze-skin guy, the popular jock but I saw the coach and Matt as they fought heatedly.

"Where the fuck is Leslie?" The other team member, Luke, yelled.

"He ditched us." Another guy, Bren, answered as the rest of the team sagged with disenchantment.

I bit my nails nervously as I tried to rake my brain for where he could be. He wouldn't miss this match surely, but there has to be around this place. I didn't have my phone with me and the team were furious, the clock indicated that it was nearly the end of the game, which was closer to 10:30PM.

Asher wasn't there either.

I scanned the crowd once again, there were around thirty people only for our school's team. He couldn't switch with the other side, they had approximately eighty people internationally.

That could only mean one thing. Asher and Leslie were together or they had met somewhere. I remembered how they grounded him.

The L letter on the necklace. My face lost color when I realized that my theory was correct. That was why Jocelyn wanted nothing to do with him, yet she taunted him and that was why Asher didn't get his hands dirty with him and got him to the police.

I needed to find them. I darted outside the soccer game straight ahead to the hill, the snow on the ground almost slipped me a lot of times.

The wind slapped harder on my face and I felt the numbness to my ears, but the silhouette of a person that sat above the frozen hill caught my breath away and it didn't help that it was the same golden curls. It just made me sprint faster, I managed to ignore the ache between my thighs and my abused tibia just to reach in time.

Leslie was in front of us, only nearer to the tip of the grand fall.

"Stop Leslie!"

He heard me over the noise which made me relieved when he stood, but Asher overbeared me with his height.

"Kalina?" Leslie called.

Asher dauntingly caged me in his arms as he hid my lips with one hand. I dug my elbow on his ribcage but it barely grazed the stuffed hoodie. It was a successful hit when the back of my left boot kicked his knee, instantly made him release his hold only for me to practically fly over to Leslie.

"You're doing a big mistake, he raped my sister." Asher shouted at me as the snow designed his eyelashes, his breaths as clouds.

I turned around to him.

"So now you want to talk?"

"You don't understand. He was the one who tortured my sister." He walked closer to me with a tight jaw, he was pissed that I interrupted Leslie's death party. His eyes soaked me in but it had sparkles of emotion, that made me stand in my place.

"You can let the police take him, but committing a crime is only going to put you in jail."

"Let me go to jail, but I want him gone," He sneered, his hateful eyes lasered on Leslie that had tripped into the ice, "look at him, he's pathetic. He tried to get into your sister's pants after my sister loved him and died because of him. He doesn't deserve to live." He spat out, his head shaken with anger as his eyes restricted at the slumped body.

I stepped aside.

"Do it, then."

Police sirens came out of nowhere, I held Asher's hand and he had the same plan as me when we escaped to the other side before they witnessed a knocked up Leslie. They patrolled around until they carried him with Vera that had her arms on her hips, she looked like she wanted to kill me.

They didn't see us.

"It's your fault. If it wasn't for you, he would have been dead." Asher whispered to me when we were safe. He pulled his hand away as he blamed me.

"How is it my fault? You wanted to kill someone." I responded just as angry.

"You were his next target, have fun with that." With devious cold eyes, he walked away from me.
