Chapter Fifteen

I was at Hal's cafe with a blank face. It was like my mind and heart rejected what had happened a few hours before. I kept on calculating the words that came out of Asher's mouth, I heard his voice for the first time. As raspy as it was, I focused more on the information that he revealed to me.

Why did Leslie try with my sister? my stomach lurched and I hoped the warmth of the cafe was enough to get my frantic shivers down. It was my fault for walking so long in the blistering cold weather.

People around the cafe were walking over to the bar area, some bantered over the game, and two girls giggled over to some spunky guys. It was a pretty cozy, dark-lighted place with some animal heads on the walls and big funky stereos around to blast disco music, but the owner decided he wasn't going to use it today because they were too invested in what happened to the game.

My eyes travelled to the news on the TV. The reporter stated that the Armenian wolves lost tonight's match all because of Leslie's disappearance and she interviewed the mad coach, who sent daggers through his eyes on the screen, seemingly displeased and didn't want to be with the woman.

Some chattered about the incident as they took worried glances to each other and towards the screen. I figured the police would want to hide the fact that Leslie was at the hospital. I had no clue why I felt guilty for ruining Asher's plan, but it was what I had to do.

The last person I wanted to see appeared and she was beyond raged as she roughly snagged my arm. I grimaced as I screamed for her to stop, her nails dug into my skin as the people stared at both of us but quickly got back to their normality since they knew who Vera was. Leave it to my sister to be famous around Yerevan.

"Get in the car." She ordered cold-heartedly and my heart sunk at the tired wrinkles that appeared on my sister's face. I felt bad for a moment but I didn't regret that I stopped Asher, a part of me didn't want him to be classified as a killer.

I got in soundlessly, and she got in as she clasped her seatbelt like mine. She turned on the heater in the car as she drove slowly. The time in the car was 1AM and I leaned my head against the window as I stared at the icy leaves that laid around the houses. I could tell Vera checked up on me during the way back home, but I didn't want to face the wrath of my sister again.

"What part of stay away from Asher didn't you get?" Vera chastised me loudly in the car and my headache began to make it worse.

"I didn't do anything, I just went to Hal's cafe for some coffee." I lied through my teeth, which made Vera even more angrier.

"Don't even bother lying, I know that you and Asher were involved in Leslie's attack."

"Since we're talking about lies dear sister," I turned to face her, "why didn't you tell me the part about Leslie hitting on you?"

Her eyes slightly widened, her jaw tightening as she gripped the steering wheel harder. "Because it wasn't something I couldn't handle, it was a mindless fling and we knew Leslie was a flirt everywhere, it doesn't matter —"

"It does matter, I would've let Asher kill him for this."

The tension in the car built up and Vera finally looked at me once we stopped the car in front of her house.

"Did Asher tell you about this?"

My silence was enough confirmation for her as she bashed the steering wheel.

"That fucker, he knows how to play well." She seethed, her phone suddenly buzzed and she answered the call immediately. It was the police calling in this hour.

"What?" she boomed after she heard them for a moment, I became worried when Vera told them that she will be there with them in a couple of minutes.

"What's wrong?"

Vera's face paled and she completely froze in the car for a moment before she looked at me.

"He did it. He killed Leslie at the hospital and escaped."
