Chapter 27: Escort
The battlefield was eerily silent in the wake of the fierce battle. The holy knights and adventurers stood among the remains of the fallen monsters, their weapons still at the ready, eyes scanning for any lingering threats. The horde had been decimated, but the cost had been high.
As the dust settled, Selene descended to the ground, her movements slow and weary. Cedric rushed to her side, concern etched on his face. "Selene, are you alright?"
She nodded weakly, leaning on her sword for support. "I'll be fine. but..." Selene's expression darkened, guilt flashing in her eyes. "We should have been here sooner. Maybe then we could have saved more lives."
Cedric shook his head, his voice firm but gentle. "You can't blame yourself for this. We fought bravely and did everything we could."
