Chapter 1Prologue

According to ancient mythology, Atlantis was a legendary island civilization that once thrived in a distant age, shrouded in mystery and wonder.

Described by the philosopher Plato in his dialogues, Atlantis was said to be an advanced society, rich in knowledge and prosperity.

It was believed to possess great technological advancements, majestic architecture and a highly evolved culture.

However, Atlantis met a tragic fate.

Due to the arrogance and vanity of its inhabitants, the Gods got angry and decided to punish them.

In a cataclysmic event, Atlantis was submerged beneath the depths of the ocean, forever lost to the world above.

Yet, Atlantis never vanished completely.

It is said that Atlantis continues to thrive, hidden from human eyes, and it keeps being a realm of captivating beauty and unimaginable secrets.

Not only does Atlantis survive, but it is home to the descendants of the original Atlanteans and other inhabitants, beings that have adapted and flourished in its submerged realm.

This underwater realm is a tapestry of diversity, where creatures of different kinds had found a way to live together.

The mermaids, with their graceful tails and ethereal beauty, shared the depths with the sturdy and resilient Atlanteans, descendants of the ancient civilization.

Alongside them were the wise and enigmatic selkies, their sleek forms gliding effortlessly through the currents, the water sprites, with their playful nature and mischievous laughter echoing through the submerged city and the mysterious djinns.

For countless generations, these inhabitants had thrived, united by the understanding that their collective existence was bound to the well-being of Atlantis itself.

Mutual respect and a sense of shared destiny had guided them, contributing to a society where diversity was cherished, and the strengths of each species were harnessed for the greater good.

But a shadow loomed over the tranquil waters, threatening the delicate equilibrium that had endured for centuries.

It began with whispers, rumors of a faction who harboured ambitions of dominance, seeking to subjugate the other races.

The air crackled with tension as divisions deepened, and ancient alliances frayed.

The fate of Atlantis hung in the balance.

Ethan, a young and valiant member of the mermaids, had been chosen for a crucial mission.

It was whispered that deep within the mermaid community, there was a rare individual—an extraordinary mermaid with an inherent power that could shift the tides of fate.

It was believed that she held the key to saving Atlantis from the clutches of tyranny and subjugation.

"Ethan, my son" his father began, his voice resonating with wisdom and authority.

"You bear a great responsibility in your hands. The fate of Atlantis rests on your success. Tell me, have you found the one we seek?"

Ethan's eyes met his father's gaze, filled with determination.

"Yes, Father. I have found her. Delphine. She possesses a power and a heritage that can save us from the encroaching darkness."

His father's brows furrowed as he studied his son intently. "Delphine... a name that echoes through the depths. Are you sure she is the one?"

Ethan nodded, his voice unwavering.

"I have seen the signs. She is the missing piece, Father. She is the key to restoring the balance and preserving the unity between our realms."

His father, one of the mermaids' representatives, placed a firm hand on Ethan's shoulder, his voice filled with a mixture of pride and concern.

"You have my blessings, my son. May the Gods guide you and grant you the strength needed to accomplish this task. Remember, your duty is not only to Atlantis but to Delphine as well. Protect her, guide her, and show her the path that will lead her to embrace her true self."

Ethan bowed respectfully, his voice filled with determination.

"I will not fail you, Father. I will bring Delphine back and ensure that tyranny will not prevail and tarnish our realm."

To him, she is nothing but weapon foretold by prophecy, a tool he will wield to destroy the opposing forces threatening his pack. Yet, he finds himself craving this powerful yet broken woman. Leaving him questioning if she is truly his weapon or the one destined to unravel his carefully laid plans. *** He stalked toward me, a predator closing in on its prey, his eyes dark and unreadable. "So, you laugh?" His voice was low, dangerously soft, making the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I swallowed hard, suddenly aware of how difficult it had become to breathe. "Hades, I—" "But you only laugh at other men's jokes," he interrupted, his gaze piercing, devoid of any humor. "Not your husband's." The accusation in his tone was sharp, slicing through the air between us. A nervous chuckle escaped me. "You can't be serious... He’s your beta, for Goddess’ sake." In an instant, he closed the distance between us, so fast it left me breathless. His hands gripped my waist, pulling me flush against his body, the heat of him making my skin tingle. I gasped, but before I could say a word, his lips crashed onto mine, claiming my mouth with a force that sent shockwaves through me. The kiss was punishing, hungry—I couldn't breathe, couldn't think. When he finally pulled back, I was trembling, my chest heaving as I struggled to regain my breath. His eyes, dark and stormy, searched mine with a possessive intensity. "You can’t laugh at my jokes..." he whispered, his voice a dangerous rasp as his fingers trailed lower, sending a shiver down my spine, "but you’ll come with my fingers." I shivered, heat pooling low in my belly at his words, his touch. The world around us blurred, fading into nothing as his hand slipped lower, drawing a ragged gasp from my lips. The look in his eyes told me he knew exactly what he was doing to me, and there was no denying the primal connection between us in that moment. "I don’t need your laughter," he murmured against my skin, his breath hot on my neck. "I’ll have every other part of you instead." **** Dark fantasy romance Morally Grey ML Angst Suspense ENEMIES to lovers Smut (like sprinkles on your ice cream)
