Talks and letter?!

Wordcount: 1473

Flashback

Sofia POV

Sofia walked to the office of the matron, surprised by Nathan's academic growth. She wanted to ask the matron if she had noticed anything different.

"Good morning, Matron," Sofia said while entering the matron's office.

"How many times do I have to tell you, call me Rosie. In here, we are equals. But good morning. What can I do for you, Sofia?" The matron answered with a slight smile.

"Yes, matron, I know. But my reason for coming here is about Nathan. Have you noticed too? He has changed. I don't know what happened to him, but he went from a very introverted person to such an extroverted and supportive person. And his answers in class surprised me the most. It's almost like I'm talking to an equal," Sofia said, concerned.

The matron was quite confused as to why it was such a concern to her. Yes, Nathan did change, but it was positive from her point of view.

"What is it that worries you, Sofia?" The matron asked seriously.

"I'm afraid he's getting help from outside of the orphanage. His answers are some that most adults can't even give," Sofia said solemnly.

"I understand where your concern comes from. I will talk to him. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. If he's indeed having contact with people we don't know, he might get himself involved in things he won't be able to back down from," the matron said. The smile was already gone from her face.

"Something is stirring. Throughout Europe, small attacks have been happening on muggles and wizard kind. It won't take long before it reaches the UK. It would be worse if this new power would try and recruit from the orphanages." The room had grown cold. Both the matron and Sofia no longer smiled.

Rumors have been going around about Grindelwald. He himself hasn't done anything yet, but he's been silently recruiting. Everyone knows it, yet no one speaks out about it.

Flashback 2 Nathan POV

'The matron called me to her office. I have no clue why, but she and Sofia seem a bit more on the quiet side these days. Something is going on,' Nathan thought with a somber expression. He entered her office, and the matron asked him to close the door.

"Good morning, Nathan. I wanted to ask how you have been doing these last couple of weeks," The matron said. Nathan was surprised by her question.

"I've been doing great, Matron. I spent most of my time reading the books, and they are amazing. There is so much possible with magic, and to think these are just from the first year. I immediately get excited about the other years," Nathan replied joyfully. He loved to read the magic books. It made it even more magical to be able to finally live his dream. If only Elanor were here with him.

"That's good to hear, Nathan," The matron said with a genuine smile. It always made her happy seeing the kids happy. "The reason I wanted to talk to you is that Sofia and I noticed your change."

Nathan's heart dropped upon hearing these words. Was he found out? It was his own fault for forgetting that he was 11. He silently scolded himself. But for now, he just silently listened.

"We are afraid that someone from outside of the orphanage might be teaching you. Tell me, is this true?" The matron said. Her smile vanished by now, but her eyes were somehow still comforting.

Nathan was surprised to hear this. He never thought that they would think this.

"No, matron. I promise you no one has been helping me. I've been studying hard in the library and occasionally reading the other books that are there. There is so much to learn there." Nathan's shocked expression turned into a smile while saying this.

Rosie saw that he was telling the truth. This excitement was impossible to fake for an 11-year-old. She was, after all, trained by her family to detect lies before she was banished. "Thank you. Then our suspicions were luckily not true. Have a good day, little Ravenclaw." The matron said. There had been a weight lifted off her shoulder now.

Flashback end

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After three months of training, Nathan had finally succeeded with the wand-lighting charm. Even though the light was only around 4 mm, it was still progress.

The following morning, he went downstairs and smelled freshly baked bread. Then he remembered it was Elias's birthday! He quickly went downstairs and congratulated him.

"Congratulations, Elias!" Nathan said happily, hugging the boy. The other kids entered the room, also congratulating him. After breakfast, Nathan and Elias were walking together when Nathan asked, "So what do you want for your birthday?"

Elias was surprised by this. No one had asked this from him before. Yes, his family celebrated his birthday, but only for political reasons, nothing more. He'd never really gotten presents.

Nathan noticed his surprise and asked, "So what do you want?"

Elias seemed to think for a bit and answered, "Your friendship. That's all I want." This answer was not something Nathan was expecting. "You already have that, so what do you want?" Nathan replied.

"Then there is nothing else I need," Elias said (A/n kinda cheesy I know. But more of his backstory will be revealed with time and hopefully, you'll understand after knowing more about Elias's upbringing). Nathan smiled at his friend's stubbornness and continued walking with him, while a huge smile could be seen on both their faces.

Time slowly passed, and Nathan and Elias became even closer. Their friendship seemed unbreakable. The matron often was mad at them for the little pranks they pulled. They truly were two little marauders.

Nathan's training continued regularly. Sitting in a lotus position while thinking of the wand-lighting charm.

"Lumos," Nathan said.

A white ball of light with a size of about 7/8 mm could be seen at the top of his finger. The light was there for a few seconds before Nathan's magic reserve was emptied.

Nathan was amazed to see his progress. He was finally living his dream. Each cast was a step closer to becoming a powerful wizard.

His physical training also wasn't lacking behind. He was now able to do 35 pushups, 60 sit-ups, and plank for 2.5 minutes.

These nine months have truly been the best of his life. He has been in this world for a year now, and he had people around him that he loved. Yet his heart still felt empty without Elanor. But enough about that.

Today was a special day. It was his birthday. Which meant his letter was here.

He woke up feeling extra excited when suddenly

*toktok* An owl was hitting its beak against the window. The owl had a letter that was branded with a logo Nathan knew all too well. Nathan opened the window, allowing the owl to enter. The owl gave the letter to Nathan. Nathan's excitement was at a level it had never been.

He opened the letter, and it read:
