Beast tide

Carts filled with the corpses of forced workers were being delivered to the beasts and monsters in their area. The sounds of moaning and crying were accompanying those carts. Nearly 1,500 humans were executed and finally, it dawned on everyone, this is no paradise that will save them from monsters.

Jordan was just the lesser evil, despite being captured and seeing the punishment for changing sides, most of the humans easily adapted and started to remember how the situation was before and since there isn't immediate danger the situation should slowly return to its previous state right? It´s absurd to live like in the middle ages, after all, everyone here is from civilized society, right?

Everyone fell hard, the forced workers and free humans fell the hardest. The forced workers all became extremely gloomy and didn't even dare to look Jordan in the eyes when he passed near them. The free humans were split, on one side were those that didn't agree with Jordan´s policies but were still too scared and powerless to do anything about it, and on the other side were those that didn't agree with Jordan policies, were too scared to do anything about it and wanted to leave.

After the mass execution, half of the free humans decided to leave despite it being an extremely dangerous move.

And what about the citizens? They were shocked by Jordan´s actions but that was about all, the citizens were already corrupted by the power and privileges they got. It´s hard to compare yourself to those in tattered close who look like homeless people when you have a new fur coat and practice magic on daily basis. The sense of being superior to others was imbued with the citizens. With this Jordan gained loyal followers that will follow him just to enjoy the current position they have.

This system may sound wrong but it was the only way for Jordan to control the camp without excessive violence, it was impossible to rule while letting the democracy thrive, it was impossible to fully fuse the monsters and humans under peaceful conditions. The beasts and monsters had aggressivity in their blood and without a firm hand, they would just massacre all the humans.

And lastly considering the nature of demons there shouldn't be any demon who would wish to rule peacefully.

The next few days were peaceful, only the free humans were left trying to reach some other city only to return when they saw how awful the outside is, snow and beasts everywhere, it was impossible to travel for normal humans, even awakened ones had trouble.

And for those humans that returned their waited and ugly surprise, everyone who tried to leave for another city will be stripped of their "free human" status and would become forced workers upon returning.

This ugly surprise was prepared by Jordan to make the humans resolute it was also to prevent any spies from exchanging information with other cities and so on. But such measures can only be temporary, once they began to trade with other cities this rule will have to be abolished.

But one thing disturbed Jordan, and that thing was the increased number of beasts roaming around the city, big groups sometimes even several hundred beasts strong.

The predators were overpopulated, their food was scarce, now they were searching for new food and with his luck, Jordan could guess where will they go to search for the food.

Already several beasts made their way to the city, but they just sniffed around before retreating, ´luckily the wall around the city is done, even though it sucks´.

There is no way for the wall to block third phase beasts, at best the wall can slow down the second phase beasts and prevent the first phase beasts from crossing it but that´s all. There just weren´t materials to build a proper wall. Once the Spring comes the situation with materials should improve as they will be able to haul rocks from a nearby mine, they made, and they will be also able to create more cement based on lime.

Until then the wall will have to do as it is.

It was very sudden, Jordan was just training when a small flying beast flew to his window with a piece of paper strapped to its leg, Jordan quickly took the piece of paper from the beasts and read what was on it. "beasts are coming from everywhere, possibly thousands of them!"

Jordan threw the piece of paper away and put on his coat, grabbed his war-hammer, and run to the front gate to see the situation. All around the streets, there were people, beasts, and monsters moving around, everyone got the information, and leaders of various groups were trying to move out with their group as soon as possible.

Jordan didn't care for Max or the awakened wyvern, they were probably in some warm place resting, it would take too much time to search for them, they will join the battle later.

After several minutes Jordan made it to the gate and he could see the situation, two-third phase beasts were inside the wall killing people left and right while dozen of second phase beasts were trying to climb over while hundreds of first phase beasts were before the wall or making their way through the holes the third phase beasts made.

Before Jordan could rejoice over his easy victory the shouts from the walls reminded him why he came here. Jordan jumped on the wall and kicked down a second phase beast that just made it up there.

Seeing the scene before him Jordan was shocked, there were beasts everywhere, climbing over one other or just staying in the back and sending spells their way and in the back, there was the main actor.

A huge beast with three dog´s heads, the beast looked exactly like the Kerberos from myths.
