Jaxon -The Boss Calls

The morning sun was just coming up and, in the forest, a young man in his late twenties had just finished running another lap. Jaxon stopped by the edge of the lake and glimpsed into the water. He dipped his fingers into the water and pulled back. Shaking the drops of water out off his fingers. He breathed in the smell of the forest, the air was scented with hints of pinecone. He walked back up to the cabin he shared with his mother and sister.

On his way up the hill, his phone rang.

"Hello.."he answered. "Jaxon Smith, where are you?" "You were supposed to report in yesterday night", said the commanding voice on the other end.

"Sir, I did send a notice to your assistant informing her that I would be back next week, I have to attend a family event," he replied.

"That's not good enough, we need you here soon." "Make sure you're here as soon as possible." "Sasha will assign you another room, yours has been taken up by a replacement guard."

"Noted, sir" he replied before the call ended.

"Good morning son, someone finally decided they had enough sleep," said Mrs. Smith grinning away, happy to have her eldest son back home.

"Morning Mom" said Jaxon stepping through the doorway and into the kitchen, he then proceeded to grab a plate and heap it with eggs, bacon, green beans and corn.

"I take it that you are aware Uncle Mark is getting married again." "We have to check in by this evening at Four Seasons Hotel."

"Shit!" "That's today?" exclaimed Jaxon. Great he thought he was going to have to report in late at the Whitehall Mansion. It had been a long time since he had last visited his mother and her side of the family. A year had come and gone, and his schedule had been fully booked with guard duties as Sir Raiden's personal bodyguard and close friend.

Jaxon's father had passed away when he was seven, his mother had taken care of him and his sister. His mother was a teacher in a middle grade school. His father had been a serving guardian to Sir Raiden's late father. His sister Kayla, was due to arrive at the airport that morning. "Picking up your sister I hope?" asked Mrs Smith. "Yeah I'm going,". He finished eating, washed his plate and left the kitchen. He got into the garage, started his silver Mercedes and drove off.

The airport was about thirty minutes away and Jaxon arrived just in time as Kayla had finished checking out of customs and collected her luggage from the conveyor belt. She waved at him at the entrance of the airport and he gave her a hug.

"Hi sis, shorty's gotten taller this year," commented Jaxon.

"You noticed," said Kayla laughing, Kayla was just an inch shorter than her brother with copper curly hair and bright blue eyes.

"Come on, mom can't wait to see you", replied Jaxon.

He put her luggage in the boot of the car and started the engine, Kayla got into the front passenger side of the car. Along the drive home, Kayla studied her brother for a moment and asked "Are you ok with going for the wedding cause we could do something different if it bothers you in anyway."

"What are you talking about?" asked Jaxon for a moment puzzled at what his sister was implying. Kayla smacked her forehead and said "I mean Shawna...." "Are you ok with weddings after what happened with her,"she clarified.

Jaxon smiled saying sarcastically, "well we weren't going to get married what happened with her has nothing to do with weddings to begin with." "I'm fine , Kayla." "Shawna doesn't bother me anymore." "Just drop it alright, don't spoil the day," he added light heartedly.

"Alright, sorry I brought it up."

"We're here," he said trying to change the subject, silence ensured as he parked the car and got out.

"Mama! Missed you so much!" said Kayla running to give her mother a big bear hug.

"My baby girl is home!" squealed Mrs. Smith.

"Uni was cool but I think I liked high school better."

"Why?" asked Jaxon.

"I was popular in high school," said Kayla sticking out her tongue at her brother. "I mostly blended in at uni."

"Too busy studying and all to get ahead." "I'm shocked you didn't get valedictorian," commented Jaxon.

"Haha, my CGPA is a 3.95 so I think I'm good," she said.

"Party at uni?" asked Jaxon.

"A little," she replied.

"Cheerleading?" He asked.

"Nope, basketball," she replied.

"That explains the new height you reaching sis." He said ruffling her curly mane.

"Hands of the hair bro!" She exclaimed. "It took me longer than usual today to detangle these curls," said Kayla.

"Maybe you should use a conditioner, or a leave on serum so it detangles easily," said Mrs.Smith chipping in.

"Thanks Mom but you know how much I hate conditioner."

"We can head over to a saloon and get you something tomorrow," said Mrs.Smith.

"I thought we are checking into Four Seasons today," said Kayla.

"We are but there should be a saloons around, I think, no harm looking for one," replied Mrs.Smith.

The Smiths packed their bags and loaded the car by three o'clock they were out on the road. The drive to Four Seasons Hotel was quiet and Kayla fell asleep at the back. "Just be yourself and smile more, I am so happy you are moving on and taking better care of yourself," said Mrs. Smith quietly to her son. "Thanks mom."

They arrived at Four Seasons Hotel, and checked into their rooms. "So you have been registered for the suite, which has three beds and a bathroom, here are your key cards", said the receptionist at the front desk. "Thank you, said Kayla," who had awakened once they had parked at the basement. Their suite was styled with a bamboo green and white walls, with gold and white curtains. It had one king size bed and twin beds located across from each other in the corner of the room.

"I'm going to take a short nap said Kayla before changing into a mini skirt and a tank top.

"Mom I'm headed for the bar."

"Don't get drunk," warned Mrs. Smith. "You know I won't," Jaxon replied.
