Thedas, Anew

Aedan's first thought after a wave of electricity caused him to die painfully was that he didn't think that the afterlife was an empty void... As he tried looking around, he realized he couldn't see anything at all... not even his own body. A truly novel experience, an actual out-of-body situation, one that was eventually disrupted by a strange pop-up.

[Choose Your Race]

The young man recognized this font, a font created for the Dragon Age games. After a moment of recognition, Aedan came to a wild but plausible conclusion: he was being sent to Thedas. Feeling that it was his destiny, Aedan chose Elf. He'd always loved the Elves of Thedas, especially the designs of the Vallaslin. He'd even gotten some Mythal ones on the collar of his neck. However, as an Elf of Thedas, he would never accept one, even as a Dalish, knowing their origins.

[Choose Your Class]

As another pop-up appeared, Aedan was pleasantly surprised to see Spirit Eater, a modded class, show up. Without so much as a second thought, he took it. Spirit Eater was by far his most played class, as it accessed every other class at once, and was the only way he'd ever found to multi-class in a single-class game. He made a quick decision to start as a Rogue, using the dexterous specialties of the Elves to his advantage as an archer. A silhouette began to appear in his vision, taking the form of a young elf, wearing daggers and a holding a longbow, similar to the Elgar'nan Enaste bow, at full-draw. Satisfied, he moved on.

[Choose Your Background]

Originally, as an Elf, he'd only have a handful of choices, mostly Dalish or City Elf. However, another one of his favorite mods, Adopted, changed that to allow him to put any race and class with any background. He always enjoyed playing as the Human Noble origin, but he also liked the City Elf story, especially the effects it had in the later game. Due to his many playthroughs using the background, Aedan chose Human Noble, curious as to how an Elf would be part of a Human Noble family.

[Customize Your Appearance]

Surprised, Aedan noted that he could customize every part of the appearance, even to extremes. He didn't have a mod for that, but he assumed it was because he was becoming a real person and not a character. Still, the appearance showed him as a young adult, so he customized it to appear like a proper young elf, though he added his own twists. Slightly shorter points to his ears, purple irises, long black hair in a ponytail, skin tone matching his original one, and a figure that appeared almost feminine, a trick he could use to his advantage. While he didn't add a Vallaslin, he did add three tattoos: a black eastern dragon tattoo that started at his tailbone and ended below his neck on his back and a pair of phrases in Elvish: Telenadas, meaning Nothing Is Inevitable on his left forearm, and Somniara Atish'an, which meant something along the lines of To Dream (Of) Peace, on his right forearm. This was to remind himself that he can change things, but peace can only be a dream for the future at present.

Finally thinking he was done, Aedan was confused when he saw a new pop-up appear:

[Error. Unauthorized Access Dete--. Attempting to repa--. Access granted. Welcome, Developer]

Suddenly, he felt a massive pull from an unknown source, and everything returned to black.

"Aedan! Aedan, get up." A distant female voice echoed in his mind, causing him to try and block out the new noise. "Aedan..." The voice echoed again, this time in a tone he wasn't familiar with... Then suddenly, "AEDAN!" and he sat up with a jolt, giving himself vertigo from how quick he sat up.

"Oww, my ears... and my head..." he groaned as he massaged his temples.

"Well, they wouldn't hurt if you actually listened when I called your name. Now get up, the Teyrn is calling for you immediately." Turning to look, Aedan saw an older lady, giving him a look of pity and annoyance. Memories flashed in his brain as he recalled who she was: the head of the servants for the count, Lucia.

"Yes, Lucia, I'm going..." He grumbled as he got to his feet, rubbing his face quickly before grabbing his boots from beside his bed, putting them on as if he had done it thousands of times... only after doing so did he notice that he was really in the world of Thedas. "Lucia, what is the date today."

"You must have slept so hard, your brain stopped working, young man. It's Monday, 14 Guardian, 9:30 Dragon. Get moving, I don't have all day and neither does your father." She started batting him with a duster, shooing him out the door.

"Ah, okay, okay, not the duster!" Aedan sighed, now outside his room, "I'm going, I'm going." Brushing the dust from his clothes off, he began walking... only to stop after a few steps as he realized what he had just heard... it was 9:30 Dragon... the year of the Fifth Blight beginning, and the beginning of the story. Since he was being summoned by his father, Teyrn Bryce Cousland, he just instinctively knew that today was the day it would all begin. It was at this point that he began seeing new things: namely, the HUD of Dragon Age: Inquisition taking up his vision. "Oh no... it really is happening today... wait, why Inquisition... never mind... wait, can I do this..." He attempted to mentally press buttons in order to activate what he wanted, only to realize he couldn't. "Damn it, I need the console."

And then it appeared before him... a floating book and a magic pen, labelled the Book of Developers.

"Oh shit."

It's been a while since I tried to write a book, might as well use one of my most beloved video games for it. Let's see how it goes. Posting schedule is highly irregular, I have a lot of work IRL, but I will try my best.

This is technically a spiritual successor to my original attempt, Spirit Eater, which was a lot of extra work... Here's to the future.
