Death's Lover

"Why are you wearing cow head mask? Lilith asks you this question the third time." Amon groaned, tipping his head up. It made the snout of his mask point at the sky, making Lilith giggle as she found the view funny. "It's weird. Lilith thinks you're ugly that's why you're hiding your face." Hearing this, Amon couldn't help but look at her through his mask. If only he wasn't wearing it, Lilith would see how he arched a brow at her statement as he didn't like what she said. "You said it's rude for people to be ignored. Aren't you being rude for making such a remark?" "Oh!" Lilith gasped, making her cuter as she immediately touched her mouth with both of her hands in an attempt to shut herself up. The little girl spoke again, her voice heard even though she talked softly. "Lilith didn't mean to... Lilith is sorry. But Lilith was honest. Doesn't that make Lilith a good girl?" *** Amon, the Grim Reaper, appeared in the mortal realm to fulfill his job in collecting the souls of the dead. However, an unusual event occurred when he was about to collect one dying pregnant woman's soul. She was giving birth right before she died, making Amon panic and worry as her dying wish was for him to save her child! With the Grim Reaper actually a softie and is willing to take care of the infant despite the rule of their job to not interfere in mortal affairs, what lies ahead for Death and his now-growing human, Lilith? *** "Why do you wear that?" "19 years have passed—" Amon started, "—and this is still what you want to ask about?" "Well, yes." Lilith grinned. --- WARNING: Some chapters of this story contain mature R-18 content. Why Must You Avoid Me So?

Before they even knew it, lunch time was already over. Dharvey and Sicily went to the garden to have some tea, while Aidan and Nadia hung out with Gregory as they toured him around the kingdom.

King Blanc and Eucraick went back to the office for them to work on some paperwork concerning the kingdom.

And as for Amon? Well...

When he realized that he was being bothered by Lilith during lunch time with many questions as to why he has a mask on, he left the dining table early, not even saying where he's going.

She was about to chase him and talk to him in private, however, Sicily stopped her before she was able to do so.

With Lilith not successfully getting any information from anyone—even though she had shamelessly asked from Eucraick and the king, she just continued conversing with Gregory and the others while feeling pissed off.

They were all talking for half an hour, until Lilith excused herself. Which is why the others had already planned on what to do the moment she announced her individual plan.

"Geez... what is up with them being so secretive? What is the point of not knowing anything, when Amon, himself, seems to be avoiding me?"

When Lilith realized the latter part, she stopped in her tracks and thought about it again.

"Wait... Amon seems to avoid me," she mumbled again to herself, now walking back and forth as she thought about it. "Why is he avoiding me?"

Lilith wondered how she could be so stupid—only realizing now that Amon had been avoiding her. With that realization, she thought of how she could ever get information from him when she is being avoided?

"Ugh! Why?" Lilith stomped her right foot once and then crossed her arms in front of her chest. "They said that the information I needed will be told by that guy with the cow head mask. Why is he avoiding me, then?"

Frustration was evident in Lilith's voice. As she felt the need to cool down, she then walked to the kingdom's maze. Since she memorized every corner and turn of this maze, she knew where the other fountain is located.

It is always her go-to place whenever she wanted her sweet time alone. No one usually goes there unless it's time for maintenance. Because no one usually goes there, Lilith and the people of the kingdom consider it as her private place.

Lilith took deep breaths occasionally during her walk towards the middle of the maze. She admired the roses planted in the bushes and in the hedges, making her touch it occasionally as he walked towards the middle.

Lilith is an outspoken person, but she finds herself easily drained when involved in long talks and events—no matter how small or big an event is.

She let out another sigh as she was now nearing to the fountain. Even though she took her walk slowly, she found it quick that she had already reached her destination.

However, by the time she reached the fountain, an unusual figure appeared beside it. She didn't expect that she won't be alone in her favorite place.

There stood a man with his arms crossed in front of his chest. With him looking up to the sky, it's as if the rays of the sunset hit his figure. It would have been a wonderful sight...

If only his cow head mask was not hiding his face.

"Aaaah... so you're here all along, cow head man."

Not expecting her presence as well, Amon's body slightly stiffened when he heard Lilith's voice.

"Why are you here?" he asked, his voice somewhat cold as if he owns the place.

"I could ask you the same," Lilith replied, arching a brow at him as she stood beside him, making Amon wary with her around. "Why are you here? People in the kingdom know that this is my favorite and private place."

"As if I'd know," Amon commented, letting out a soft scoff. "And besides... even before you were even in this kingdom, I already go to this place all the time. The difference is they don't know that I love this place."

"So you love this place?" Lilith asked, Amon answering her question.

"Yes. If I didn't, then I wouldn't be here. It's the only place quiet that I can only go to—considering that I know every inch of this maze."

"Then it's the same for me," Lilith agreed, smiling at him as she looked at the Grim Reaper with curiosity. "You do realize that you haven't been answering my questions for a lot of times?"

Amon didn't say a word. With him ignoring Lilith's words, the young lady let out another sigh, shrugging her shoulders as she made another remark.

"And you're ignoring me again. Don't you know that it's—"

"Rude... I know," Amon interrupted. "You already told me 19 years ago."

"Oh." Lilith blinked her eyes a few times. "I didn't know that you'd remember. I don't remember much about our first meeting, but I was always curious about who you are since what I remember the most is your mask." Lilith then pointed at Amon's face. "Why do you wear that?"

"19 years have passed—" Amon started, "—and this is still what you want to ask about?"

"Well, yes." Lilith grinned, now more comfortable talking to Amon now that they are alone. "If you can't answer why I have to meet you a while ago and why Sicily said I am connected to you or whatever it is that she meant... can I at least know about this?"

"No." Amon's tone was direct—strong even, having no intention to answer her question no matter how adamant Lilith is. "I will not answer your question and will not even intend to even the slightest."

As Amon decided to walk away and was about to, Lilith widened her eyes in surprise and then immediately reached out to him.

As the young lady caught Amon by his cape, the Grim Reaper turned his head to look at her, hearing her words that seemed to have an etch of pain lingering in it.

"Why... why must you avoid me so?"
