5 The Fixed Marriage

A table for four was already prepared in a fine restaurant. Kir and her mom entered the fine building and asked for the table that was reserved for them. Up until now, the lady still doesn't have any idea why they were here. It's rare for Kir's mother to come home, more over to invite her to a dinner. Ever since her mother found out about her sexuality, her mom became so distant from her and treat her like she doesn't even exist. In Kir's mind she only hopes for the best. That maybe her mother, finally accepted her for whoever she is, that maybe her mother would want to catch up for the times that the two of them lost. But all of it vanished when she saw another set of chairs on the table that was reserved for them. For a moment, there was doubt. Maybe her mother was doing the same old thing again, setting her up with a man to date.

"Mom, what are we doing here?" she asked hesitant to take a sit

"Oh, honey. You'll see. Come and take a seat" her mother commanded

Kir took a sit beside her mother as they waited for the other party. Her phone vibrates from her purse earning a message from Cassandra. Finally, a smile showed up in her face which immediately fade when her mother nudge at her; telling her to sit straight and to keep her phone away

"They're here. Act normal" her mother said

"I'm normal" she said as she furrowed her eyebrows

Kir looked at the same direction her mother is looking at and he jaw drop at the person she sees. She doesn't even know what words to say, nor what to act. This is beyond what she imagined; this is not even possible for her in the first place. She blinked for a moment, hoping that this are all just hallucinations but when she opens her eyes once again, she realized that it's real. And she needs to immediately stop whatever is about to happen.

"You've got to be kidding me" Kir mumbled

"Thank you for agreeing to meet us tonight, Mr. Kuperman" Kir's mother stated as the two man took a sit in front of them

"It's always a pleasure to meet you Mrs. Hills. This is my son, Ronald" the middle-aged man said introducing the young man beside him

"And this is my daughter, Kir" Kir's mother introduced

"I'm sure the two of them would get along in the near future" her mother added

"Oh, trust me. With a pretty lady like her, I'm sure we would" Ronald said letting out a smirk

"Oh, how lovely, I like your son. He has taste" Mrs. Hills said

"Of course! He got that from me" Mr. Kuperman replied

Kir feels disgusted at Ronald's statement. In her mind he wants to choke the guy to dead. She didn't know why the guy is acting like he didn't know her at all when in fact the two of them have a very long history that could never be erased nor forgotten. Chasing the same woman and earning the victory, she wonders if Ronald is acting like this because it might hurt his pride that he lost the battle. But she also knows that his smirk tells a different story.

"I could even imagine our honeymoon right now. I promise, I'll treat her like she's a queen, Mrs. Hills" he said earning a cough from Kir

"What did you just say?" Kir said, offended by the words that Ronald chooses to use.

"Didn't you know? We're getting married" he said, making sure his excitement is visible through his voice

"What!?" Kir asked, dumbfounded

"Didn't you tell your daughter about the fixed marriage she'll be having with my son, Mrs. Hills?" Mr. Kuperman said as he furrowed his eyebrows

"Of course, I did! And she agreed. My daughter must have felt overwhelmed by your son's look" Mrs. Hills reason out

Kir feels so disgusted. She's been thinking of worst scenarios that could happen in tonight's dinner but getting married by the man she loathed the most is far from she could even imagine.

"What!? When did I ever! Mom, what are you talking about!?" Kir said jolting up from her seat

"Lower you voice, you're embarrassing us" her mom mumbled

"Oh, you're embarrass? Just how dare you decide who I'm going to marry!? I didn't even graduate yet"

"Marriage doesn't require any age nor any degree" Ronald uttered

"Shut the fuck up!" Kir hissesd

"I'm not going to marry my girlfriend's ex, mom!" Kir screamed

"Your daughter is a lesbian?" Mr. Kuperman said as he jolted up from his seat

"No, she's not! My daughter is as straight as a stick!" Mrs. Hills defended

"I... I can't believe you've gone so far, mom. I would understand if you can't accept me for who I really am but you can't just decide for my future! I am my own damned person!" Kir said letting the tears fall

"I'm the one who brought you to life. I have the rights to decide for your own future" her mother hissed leaving her dumbfounded

"Come on, Kir. Just be a good daughter and listen to your mom. There's no point anyway, Cassandra already knew about our marriage" Ronald said which made Kir widen her eyes.

Kir's heart beats loudly that she could literally hear it, not because she's in love but she's afraid of what's to come. She loves the girl so much that she couldn't afford to lose her. She checked her girlfriends' message once again.

"Let's talk. NOW"

Normally, this message would make her happy because it just means that her girlfriend wants to see her but right after hearing Ronald's words, she doesn't even know what to expect anymore. All she could ever do in this moment is to run towards her girlfriend. She doesn't care how far she is, or how cold the weather is, all she ever wanted is to see her and explain to her what was happening.

When she arrived at the park where they would usually meet, Cassandra was already there, waiting for her.

"Please just let me ex..." before she could even finish her sentence, she was greeted with Cassandra's soft lips. Kissing her slowly but with dominance.

"I knew you'd come" she said

"How was the dinner?" she added

Kir couldn't even answer her girlfriend. Instead, she let all of her tears fall down in her cheeks as she embraced the love of her life so tight. No words can explain how chaotic her night was.

"Please, let me explain. Please, believe me, I didn't know that my mom would set me up into a fixed marriage. I never want to marry someone other than you" she said, her voice almost inaudible because of the heaving of her heart.

"Shh... I know baby, I know. I won't leave you; I promise. We're in this together" Cassandra said brushing her hair.
