Breaking free in Marvel

I lived a good life. It might not have been grand. I had my fair share of crazy adventures. The best one though was being a husband and a father. Speaking of, I wonder if I will see my wife after I die? Oh well, I will cross that proverbial bridge when I get to it.

For right now I am surrounded by my three lovely children. I only know this because I could barely ear them talking to me.

In case this wasn't clear. I am dying. Been a long run but it's time to end, I can feel it.

Anyways. Ya know they don't stop telling you how much it sucks to get old. They were right. After 90+ years I can say they were absolutely right. I can't see for shit, can barely hear and even my smell is gone. I can remember the faces of those I love though and that's all that matters.

As I listen to the jumbles of words around me, my girls and son, I can feel my boy shutting down. My eyesight is completely gone now. My hearing is fading as well. Luckily my body is long past numb. I feel nothing at this point, well mostly, I still feel the "pressure" of someone holding my hand. Must be my youngest daughter. She always did show so much love and kindness. Never wanting to let go. However, I have to say one last thing.

"I love you all. Be happy for the time we had and don't mourn my passing. You have all made me and your mother so proud." I said in a quiet voice. It almost came out as a wheeze, but I pushed through.

I could feel them pile onto me. Filling my heart and soul with the warmth of their love. that feeling made my passing swift and serene.

I don't know what I expected of death but sitting under a tree in a field wasn't it. What was a part of it was my wife though, nice to see she was here.

"Hello dear!" I shouted in joy. Happy to see her after losing her all those years ago. She looked great, the same as the day I met her. Like literally. She looks 18 again.

"Hey Zach. I missed you." She replied warmly. With that smile that makes my heart flutter like a teenager. 

"Quite the welcome. I missed you too." I reply.

I take her hand and pull her close. Kissing her as I did so. I let all my love flow through that kiss. All my longing for her after the years she has been gone.

She leaned back after the kiss. Slightly out of breath and with a sad look on her face. I did not like that look.

"What is it?" I ask.

"Well...." She fidgeted with her hands. "This is not the place for you."

"What?" I replied with a dumb look on my face. This was all I wanted right now.

"You know how you loved Fanfic's?" She asked.

"Yea..." Same dumb look again.

"Well congratulations. You are getting your own. You will be sent to a Marvel universe. It wasn't created for you but is an offshoot of the MCU. It has all the X-Men and all the other Marvel stuff in it. This was planned for you because of how often you dreamed and prayed to your God's that you would be reincarnated. As a matter of fact that tree over there is Ygdrasil. A God in its own right. I am here to help you move along." She explained.

"But why? I am perfectly content being with you." I say sadly.

"I know... but hey maybe if you get strong enough there we can be together again." She said sadly.

"Well, that's not bad I guess." I said slowly.

"Yea!" She brightened visibly now. "Yggy even said you could keep some memories!"

"Wait Yggy?" I asked.

"Oh... ha yea Ygdrasil said I could call it Yggy."

"Ok well putting aside the fact that you are calling a God by a nick name. How much of my memories. Like all of them?"

"Yea! Yggy will numb them though, so it will feel like actual memories and won't hurt you mentally."

"Ok well I guess all I can do is make myself strong enough to pull you there." I replied jovially.

"Yea! Now let's get you started so I can live vicariously through you. Mwahahahaha!" I don't know where her evil laugh came from but it's cute. Disturbing, but cute.

"Ok so how do you want to enter the world?" She asked as a window appeared before her.

"Uhm I would like to enter as an 18-year-old again. Ya know through puberty but still a life ahead of me. Oh, could I have a background as well, just all the legal stuff to not have to worry about the government." I replied.

"Yea that's easy. Kinda surprised you don't want to be born into a rich family or anything. Now when do you want to appear?" She asked.

"2006 and my birthday should be February. Have me show up after school gets out so... July?" I say.

"Done. Now that puts you before Iron Man starts off. Next up is looks. I am pretty sure you want to stay as you are now?" She continues.

I like my looks. 6'3" with a nice full beard and deep blue eyes. I am a white boy. I had dark brown hair back when I was 18 as well. "Yea keep what I have but make me taller." I say.

"Seriously? You never could get over the fact you weren't 6'7" huh?" She sighs with a little smile.

"You know me! But make me 6'8" nice round number there." I reply.

"Fiiiiine! Whatever! But when you finally get me I will make myself taller as well. Damn giant." She muttered.

I chuckled as she finalized everything.

"Ok now it's time for your perks. you get the whole shebang ya know." She said while bouncing at this point. "You get a system!" She shouted with glee.

"Ok but I don't want something extravagant. I just want a simple system that gives me stats and quests. The quests don't have to give me money but exp is a must. Is that too much?" I ask.

She stood there looking at me as if I was an idiot. "Too much! No! if anything it is too little. You could have any system but you... whatever. DONE!"

Then a list of the stats that will be used pop up.

Note: Max basic human stats are at 20. Due to having a system that breaks your human parameters you can surpass these with ease, you can train them or add stat points to increase them.

Strength: It is how strong you are. The formula is the number of your strength times 20 with qualitive leaps after 20.

Dexterity: It is how flexible you are. The higher you get the better your tendons and muscles stretch. Low Dex and High Str will cause tearing when moving too fast or exerting yourself. No qualitive leaps to be had.

Agility: How fast you are. the formula is the number of your agility times 1 with qualitive leaps after 20.

Durability: How tough you are and how well you resist damage. The formula is Durability times 20 to resist the pressure of that number psi against your skin with qualitive leaps after 20. This also decides your stamina. Again, you have no stamina bar, so you have to go by feel.

Vitality: This is your health. You do not have a health or mana bar, but this directly correlates to how fast you heal and how long you live. The formula is number times 5 for years to live, this is a general since eating habits and exercise can change it minutely or majorly. Due to the system, you also heal at a rate that is normal for humans up until 20 after that every 10 levels halves the time it takes you to heal.

Intelligence: This is how smart you are. At 20 you are the peak of a normal smart human, so an IQ of 120, every 10 after halves the time it takes to learn new things and perform complex computations.

Wisdom: This is how well you incorporate the knowledge you gain as well as how well you defend your mind against attacks. Mor information will be given the higher this stat gets.

"Sweet. Looks pretty simple to me." I say excitedly.

"That is great dear. Just know that I love you and can't wait to see what you get up to. Oh and remember that this is a new life. You WILL have lovers and I am ok with that. Just be happy for me. Now it's time to go. we don't want you hanging around for too long after all."

With that I was booted out of the field. I didn't even get to say goodbye. Instead, I found myself standing in the middle of times square with my status screen popping up in front of me.
