Worth it

"You faced the Attack Squad, injured both Xerxes and Talon, almost annihilated the twenty-two remaining, armored Knights, and though they had no magical weapons, you fought them, still somehow had the advantage after getting slashed, stabbed, and held down. Have anything to say about that?" asked Orthus with his usual passive expression.

"Like I said, I can't remember anything after killing monsters. The Scythe was cursed that gave me a boost in strength, speed, and battle instincts." Isaac said as he looked at his scarred hand, "But, I have regained my consciousness now… so, can you take this off?"

Isaac dangled the shackles wrapped around his wrist, ankles, and neck. Isaac was currently inside a makeshift tent meant to keep the ruffians and annoyance in check dressed in nothing but bandages and black pants. He was on a bed, chained and shackled for what he had done. The tent was actually a magical formation that strengthens the shackles and chains, restricting the mana of those bound.

Only Isaac was inside and the effects of the tent were fully on him. His mana was a mess, it wasn't impossible to use but it was harder to command it, 'This place is a makeshift cell, I don't want to think what a true one would be.' he thought to himself.

"If I take this off and you go on a rampage, your end won't be as favorable." Orthus warned.

"I know… you can kill me if I am still not myself." if he could only be himself while shackled, Isaac wouldn't want such a life.

Orthus formed a hand sign and then the black shackles unwrapped and then disintegrated into the air, "How do you feel?"

Isaac cracked his neck and then his hand moved swiftly to strike Orthus but he stopped even before he could come any closer than a meter, "You're really strong." Isaac commented as dozens of ice spears appeared around him, threatening to turn him into a porcupine.

"So your speed really is augmented by the Scythe. I doubt Xerxes or Talon would fall for this kind of thing." Orthus commented and had Isaac follow him outside where they walked into a night of celebration where Knights and Seekers got drunk together. Orthus was called and then was given a plate which he offered to Isaac, "Want some?"

Isaac accepted a plate of sliced graples, "Oh, that's sweet. This from Yulia's place?"

"Yes, it came with more rations. It was supposed to help our advance into the Forest, I'd say it would be helpful because we don't have any food, but the monsters you killed are enough to cater a Kingdom Feast." Orthus answered and then handed Isaac a letter, "But the thing is, she gave us more alcohol than actual food… she said it was for our victory… and these guys have been drinking for two days."

"That so?" Isaac did not have much reaction and just looked at them in silence. Orthus invited him to drink with Artemis and the others but refused and took the plate and got him some meat.

Isaac started eating alone and when he felt like he was full, Isaac asked around and found his stuff, 'Two missing health potions… and a pair of underwear. Didn't know I was popular.'

Packing his things, Isaac prepared to leave. His body was hurting and most of his wounds had not fully closed. Even though he spent two days unconscious, his ability to heal wasn't as quick as it used to be, 'Losing the Regal Pearl is really showing its toll. I am not healing as fast as I used to.'

The Regal Pearl was one of Isaac's trump cards. Losing it not only made him susceptible to danger, it also lessened his vitality. There's a reason why he planted it close to his heart, 'No use crying over spilled milk.'

Taking everything with him, Isaac decided to leave after leaving a note. He walked around camp and avoided the people and jumped over the barricades.

"Ah?"

"Ah?"

Isaac stopped as he heard someone beside him, it was Talon, drinking alone. Talon noticed Isaac's bag, "You're leaving? I heard you just got up?"

"I've already spent too much time here. Oh yeah… sorry for knocking you out. I didn't mean to do it, haha, cursed and all." Isaac let out a wry laugh knowing he couldn't have done anything.

Shooting him a side glance, Talon growled, "Screw you."

"What?" Isaac did not expect such an answer.

Downing a bottle of alcohol, Talon spat on the ground and ripped apart meat with his mouth, "You heard me, screw you, Otherworlder-hic-you're not better than me."

'Oh, he's drunk.' guessed Isaac.

"Don't you look down on me. Just because we used your plan does not mean you're smarter than me and you only beat me because you fought dirty… so, screw you, my level's still higher. If we fought now, I would beat yo-atatatata!"

Talon winced in pain as his broken ribs again ached.

"Hey, are you oka-"

"I'm fine! Dammit, don't you pity me! Don't pity me." Talon slapped Isaac's hands and glared at him, "Dammit, you're better than me even in healing… just… leave me alone."

After hesitating a bit, Isaac looked at Talon. He could tell that he was troubled, but he knew that it was not his place to ask. They weren't close or anything even remotely, and Talon was even hostile towards him.

'If he's not injured I'm sure he would've challenged me into a fight.' such were his thoughts.

Isaac didn't have any intention of having anything to do with Talon's complexes and just walked away. Not everything had to be explored but he did leave him a potion, 'Good luck with life.'

"I hope we meet again, Talon."

"I don't!" shouted Talon.

Pulling out a piece of paper, Isaac followed it and headed deeper into the Inhilgar Territory. For the next three hours, Isaac just walked away until the sensation of being watched disappeared, 'I knew they were watching me.'

Two more hours later, Isaac reached a boulder. The paper pointed him down. Sitting down and resting his back on the boulder Isaac tapped the ground twelve times and waited another hour and then tapped it three more times.

The ground then shifted and to his right a hole appeared and peeked out a young girl, "Are you Uncle Isaac?" the girl asked.

Isaac watched her blink twice before answering with a smile, "Yes, I am."

Her ears perked up as she came out of the hole with a big smile on his face.

Seeing her so happy validated his pain.

'Worth it.' such was Isaac's thoughts/
