Chapter 1Selfishness And Sacrifice

Abigail sat still in front of her vanity mirror staring at the reflection of a young lady she could barely recognize.

Her lips were as red as scarlet and her hazel eyes were shimmering with a thousand emotions. Her neck was adorned with precious stones and on the center of her head sat a delicate crystal tiara.

"Look at you, sweetheart!" Matilda Felan beamed at her beautiful daughter. "I'm sure even the gods are jealous of such rare beauty. You are such a lucky girl."

"Lucky!" Abigail said with a bit of melancholy in her voice. "If you think I'm lucky, then why do I feel miserable, Mother."

A tear drop escaped Abigail's shimmering eyes. "If this is what it takes to be lucky, then I want to be doomed forever."

The smile on Matilda's face suddenly disappeared and was replaced with horror.

"I want everyone out of this room, now." Matilda snapped at the maids who were still putting finishing touches to Abigail's elegant attire.

The maids bowed their heads and quickly exited the room.

"Do not sound ungrateful, Abigail Woods Felan." Matilda glared at her daughter's reflection in the mirror. "Do you know how many young ladies out there are praying to be in your shoes? You have virtually everything you could ever want in life at your beck and call. You..."

"No Mother," Abigail turned around to face her mum. "I do not have everything. I'm just a pretty bird locked up in a cage. My only existence is to do my owner's bidding. It is true I have everything that money can buy. But the one thing I desire the most and can never have is my freedom."

Abigail took her mother's hand and gazed sorrowfully into her eyes. "I want to be free, Mum. Please, help me."

"Enough of that nonsense!" Matilda angrily flung her daughter's hands away. She picked up the hairbrush lying on the table and ordered Abigail to face the mirror.

Abigail bit down on her inner lips and did as her mother instructed.

"I will not have you ruin this perfect night with your childish whining." Matilda took down the tiara on Abigail's head and started brushing her hair all over again.

Abigail stared at her mum through the mirror, wondering whether she had ever loved her.

"Your father has gone through a lot of trouble to organise this pre birthday celebration just for you. All you have to do is smile and enjoy your day."

Abigail inwardly chuckled at the thought of the so-called pre birthday party.

'What is a party without friends in attendance? The guest are just a bunch of disgruntled family members who are compelled to attend.' Abigail hissed.

Matilda patted Abigail gently on the head and kissed her on the cheek. She dropped the brush back on the dressing table and picked up Abigail's tiara.

"Babygirl, you are my star and you've brought so much good fortune to us." Matilda placed the tiara on Abigail's head and smiled.

"I know you may feel cheated but life hasn't been fair to either of us. There is always a little sacrifice to pay for happiness. You know I'll do anything just to make you happy. I have done my part raising you and now it's your turn to take care of me. Please, my love, don't ever say those words again, especially in the presence of the maids. You know how much some people hate us in this family. They will do anything just to kick us back to the street empty-handed."

More tears streamed down Abigail's face as she listened to her mum's heartbreaking words.

"No more tears, cupcake, otherwise you'll ruin your makeup." Matilda turned Abigail's chair around and dabbed Abigail's tears with tissue paper. She retouched Abby's makeup and smiled.

"Tomorrow, you will clock twenty-one years of age and your father has big plans for you. Just make sure you do everything he says, okay?"

"Okay, Mother," Abigail's plastered a sweet smile on her face as her hatred for her mother quadrupled.

Just then, the door to Abigail's room opened and a tall devilishly handsome man strolled in.

"How is my princess?" Valentino asked cheerfully as he walked up to the beautiful mother and daughter.

"She's having cold feet but she's fine." Matilda welcomed a brief kiss from her husband.

"Honey, can you give my princess and I some privacy for a special father and daughter bond?" Valentino stroked his wife's cheek while staring at his beautiful daughter's reflection.

"That wouldn't be a problem, honey." Matilda turned to her daughter and flashed her a deadly stare. "Abigail, be nice to your daddy."

Abigail's heartbeat began thumping louder as Matilda walked out of the room. She felt goosebumps all over her body as Valentino's hands came resting down on her shoulders.

"You look ravishing, my love," Valentino's hands slowly moved from Abby's shoulders to her arms. He made her stand up and turned her around to face him.

"Your beauty grows with every new age and so does my love for you." Valentino tried to kiss Abigail but she turned her face to the other side.

Valentino chuckled evilly at Abigail's reaction. He let go of her arm and was about to move away from her to lock the door when she quickly held him by the arm.

"Dad, I'm sorry!" Abigail said in a trembling tone. She knew the consequences of her actions and was scared of how they would impede her plans for the night. "Mum applied too much lipstick on me and I didn't want to make a mess."

"You don't have to call me, Dad when we're alone. Simply call me the pet name I thought you." Valentino turned back to Abigail, his voice was frigid and void of the initial tenderness. He strolled over to the dressing table and picked up a face wipe.

Using the face wipe Valentino carefully cleaned every bit of lipstick from Abigail's lips and asked icily.

"Do you have any more complaints, my love?"

"No, b...boo!" Abigail held back her tears for fear of exciting Valentino. He hated it when she showed weakness and would torment her body until she lost the zeal to cry.

"Kiss me and make it believable." Valentino pulled Abigail into his arms and waited patiently for her to do her magic.

So when he meets the cute and naive Lucinda Perry at the club, he decides to keep his true identity from her and find out if she was worth keeping. ***Excerpt*** What is more entertaining than a crazy side character? Say hello to Sonia and Bryan. Sonia's heart stopped beating for a second, and then different thoughts started flying right through her head at that same time. Bryan Hank? Her celebrity crush was kneeling right in front of her and asking her to be his wife? Was he mistaking her for someone? Was it possible this was a skit, or maybe this was like one of those celebrity pranks, and there were cameras around, waiting to capture her make a fool of herself? Or perhaps she was dreaming? Sonia wondered as she looked around them, but all she saw were curious onlookers. "Please! Be my wife and make me the happiest man on Earth," He said in a very loud voice that caught the attention of everyone. Her editor who she had been waiting on for over an hour because he was trying to sign a deal with a movie producer who was interested in one of her stories, showed up at that moment, "Sonia, you know Bryan Hank?" Her editor asked in genuine surprise as he watched the scene before him. It seemed like an hour had passed since Bryan went on his knees, but it had only been a minute. Bryan knew no lady would be crazy enough to accept such a crazy proposal, and even if any were, paying her off and calling off the whole thing would be easy since all he wanted was the scandal that could come from this. The headlines were either going to be about his rejected Marriage proposal or his supposed engagement, which would be enough to let Sophia off the hook. "Yes!" Sonia said as she bobbed her head excitedly and extended her finger for him to wear her the ring. "Yes?" Bryan asked in confusion when he heard her response. "Yes! I will be your wife and make you the happiest man in the world!" Sonia said with a giggle and wiggled her fingers until Bryan slid the ring down her finger. Surprisingly the ring was her exact size, and it sat on her finger like it was made just for her. The sound of applause erupted all around them as Sonia stood up with a big smile on her face and embraced Bryan before kissing him right on the lips. Bryan was slightly taken aback by her boldness but quickly recovered since this was his game, and he had to play along. He was the one who had approached her first, after all. So when she tried to break the kiss, he held her chin and slowly nibbled on her lower lip before parting her lips with his tongue and sucked on it in a teasing manner, eliciting a moan from Sonia. Sonia felt light-headed. This was too good to be true. It just had to be a dream. How else could she explain that one moment she was seated at the lobby of a hotel waiting for her editor, and the next she was engaged to her celebrity crush and was kissing him right here in the open? Ella has been reborn! Given a second chance at life, she won't fall into their tender traps again. Instead, she will rise and fight back, reclaiming everything that rightfully belongs to her! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello everyone, this is my new book. Feel free to check it out: Married First, Loved Later: A Flash Marriage with My Ex’s "Uncle." : At her wedding banquet, a man claiming to be Selina's lover stormed in, brandishing so-called intimate photos and causing chaos. Selina immediately saw through this as a scheme orchestrated by her half-sister, Natalia. However, Selina's fiancé, Ryan, not only refused to believe her but also went out of his way to defend Natalia. It turned out that Ryan and Natalia had already developed feelings for each other in secret. Everyone—Selina's father, stepmother, and Ryan's parents—knew about their affair, except for Selina, who was left in the dark. Taking advantage of the situation, Selina's father suggested swapping brides, proposing that Natalia replace Selina and complete the wedding. Ryan's family not only didn’t object but wholeheartedly supported the idea. That was the moment Selina finally realized the cruel truth: her family and Ryan's family were nothing but wolves in sheep’s clothing! "Cancel the engagement? Fine. But let it be clear—I’m the one rejecting you, you two-timing, spineless excuse for a man!" Selina declared with unshakable confidence. Her gaze then swept across the room, landing on an elegant and distinguished man. She vaguely remembered him as Ryan’s younger uncle. Walking over, she boldly asked, "Sir, how about getting married?" The man raised an eyebrow, finding her audacity intriguing. "It would be my honor, madam," he replied.
