A Trickster's Tale

There are only a few old books left in the world. The rest were destroyed during the apocalypse. The most fascinating thing about those books is the fact that humans used to believe that humanity would be wiped out because of something called global warming. It was a theory that was believed for over a century. But they were wrong.

The apocalypse or the judgment day came on 11th Feb 2090. That day started like any other day. But that day all the major cities on earth started feeling tremors. These tremors were earthquakes with an average Richter scale reading of nine. During that time the highest recorded earthquake had a magnitude of 9.5 Richter scale.

So having a bunch of earthquakes hitting all the major cities of the world was a catastrophic event. The interesting part was that all the major cities in the world like Mumbai, Beijing, New York, Washington DC, Moscow, etc experienced these terrifying earthquakes. And according to scientists, it was not even possible for some of these cities to experience an earthquake of this magnitude.

Due to this event, many people lost their lives. Many of these cities held a significant influence in the country that they were situated. From this, the government of these countries was left in ashes. It was a very strange event for the world. People on earth started panicking from these events. But little did everyone know that this was just a small event before the apocalypse or the judgment day…

Some of the most brilliant minds of the Human race started criticizing that this was a major terrorist event. This was an act of global terrorism. Government should look into the humans that were capable of doing such things. It was all pretty none sense stuff. But that was a more plausible explanation than the scientist blabbering that this was an impossible event. So some of the governments of the world started investigating terrorist groups around the world. Or so does the rumor says…

But just a few days after this earthquake another strange event happen all around the world. It was 28th Feb 2090. At exactly 12 pm on Indian standard time, a blue screen appeared in front of all the human beings present in the world. In that Blue screen was a message for the world…

Dear Humans,

Prepare for the cataclysmic event. At exactly 3 months from this time, this world will experience another catastrophic event.

The interesting part about this message was that every human received the same message. And they all receive the message in a language that they could understand. People who could speak English received the message in English while the Japanese people received the message in Japanese. Everyone received the message in a language that they could understand.

Only the blind people or the illiterate people didn't receive any message. At first, people thought that this must have been some sort of hallucination. But it only took 1 day for the whole world to realize that something like this did happen. And soon panic spread through the whole world.

Many humans took this message too seriously. They started stockpiling the food items and other necessities. This caused many riots throughout the whole world. While some countries with massive infrastructure started making huge bunkers. Everyone in the world that if the catastrophic event that will hit them would be like the earthquake.

So Finally three months later, everywhere around the world humans embrace themselves for the impact. But the thing was, nothing happened. No earthquake nor any type of natural disaster took place on earth that whole day. It was only two days later people started realizing that something did indeed happened. All the major cities which were destroyed by the earthquake had suddenly manifested a blue color portal in the center of that city.

Scientists were baffled by this discovery. Till then people had only learned and seen a rip in space and time in the movies and comics. But nobody had suspected that something like this would happen in real life. Many people started making the distance between them and those portals. After all, according to that weird message, another catastrophic event would take place sooner. And most people understood that this was portal will be the cause of that event.

And they were right.

Upon experimentation, it was found that one could travel through the portal. While coming back out was not possible. The place that they would wound up in was a mystery. As well the how the portal was maintaining itself was also a mystery.

Search parties were sent to the portals. The first search party didn't return. That search party consisted of mostly scientists and some soldiers. But as they were not able to return some countries sent other parties. These parties consisted of armed soldiers. But they were also not able to return back. With no way of knowing what was beyond those portals scientists just started studying the portals.

But it was only after two weeks of the portal manifesting itself, some changes started happening in the portals. The portals started expanding abnormally. At first, it was theorized that these portals would become a black hole. But that didn't happen. Instead, the portals grew twice their size and became red. And when that happened a swarm of alien beings started pouring out of those portals.

These monsters were a very large number but they were no match to the firepower of that era. Soon the military took over and sorted this out. All the beings were killed…

As all those monsters that came out of the portal were all killed, the portal vanished in thin air. Some countries faced some difficulty closing the portals. But eventually, all the portals got closed. With this humanity started celebrating. They celebrated that the worse was behind them. It was then the day of the apocalypse came…

The portal which initially opened had very weak monsters in them. They were killed easily by the military. But portals that got manifested after that have been bigger and emitted a lot of energy. And the monsters from those portals were stronger. They were not immune to bullets but they were all very durable towards bullets.

The day when strong monsters came pouring out of the gate, that day was called the day of apocalypse or the judgment day…

Soon humans with supernatural abilities started showing up. And with the help of those people closing a portal came an easy job….

Like that humanity soon came back on its feet. With humans with supernatural powers leading them, humanity gains back their foothold on their planet....

It was then on 11th Feb 2121, strange monoliths started emerging from the grounds. And like before humanity received another message at the same time….
