Chapter 1A Man Turned Into A Siren

"Hear my voice from the depths of the sea

Where the darkness takes over, come with me

Let my voice lead you this way

I'll tell you my secret

And if I do, will you kiss me?"

Serenity hid behind a big rock but even then she could still see a siren-like her. She looked around to see if anyone was coming in the direction of the siren. She wasn't wrong because someone was approaching the siren and it's a man.

Serenity wanted to stop the man from approaching the siren but she couldn't do anything, so she just kept staring at it. Serenity was so shocked when she saw with her bare eyes that the siren-like her kiss the man and suddenly the legs of that man turned into a tail. There are so many questions in Serenity's mind.

'Did he become a siren-like me? How did that happen? By just kissing? So if I kissed a man, would that man turn into a siren too?'

Sirens are cursed. Demeter cursed sirens like Serenity but even then Serenity didn't hate her because she believes that Demeter had a reason why she did it. Serenity went to the man who became a siren and took him to Anthemoesia, the place where sirens live.

She always watches people having fun behind a big rock, wondering about having legs and doing anything she wants. Serenity wants to be free; she doesn't want to be caged or forever landlocked. She craves the freedom of the sea and to swim where she pleases.

Sirens feel agony, pain, regret, and frustration. Sirens also seek love, like people. Sirens song was intended to be beautiful and sad, their feelings are expressed in their song.

"Why do I always feel like a part of me is missing?" Serenity whispered to herself.

'Sometimes I wonder if I used to be a human being like that man earlier, did a siren kiss me too so I became a siren-like them?'

"Serenity." A woman's voice is calling her name, in curiosity she looked around but found nothing.

"Serenity." Later on, the one calling her name stopped so she glanced again at the people having fun.

"Ray! Come on, get me." A kid shouted.

Large crowds are all over the seashore. These people come to enjoy themselves on the ocean. Kids were playing and chasing each other.

"Serenity." There it is again, the voice that's calling her earlier. She looked around again but still didn't see anyone calling her.

"Whoever you are, stop calling my name," Serenity said as she swam away. As she was focusing on heading back to Anthemoesia. She was shocked because she wasn't familiar with the place she was swimming at as if the place was different.

"How did that happen—?"

"Where am I?"

"Hey, is anybody there?!" She's very confused because she's confident that she is taking the same path that she takes every day.

The place is extremely gloomy even the ticking had a relaxed feeling as if it was a heartbeat at rest. Serenity felt shivers down her spine infused her far more deeply.

"Am I dreaming?" She asked herself.

"Serenity." That voice again.

"W-Who are you? Where am I? What am I doing here?!" Serenity asked, trying to be calm but she couldn't hide her stuttering voice.

"Serenity."

"Please stop calling my name and just answer my questions." Serenity was suddenly surprised when she saw the woman who kissed the man earlier who turned into a siren.

'Why is she here? Is she the one who called me earlier?'

"Is it because I watched when you were doing that thing? I'm sorry I didn't do it on purpose—. " The woman suddenly laughed.

She's like a goddess. Her hair was midnight-black and it flowed over her shoulders and other strands were floating because of the water. She had slender eyebrows, her eyelashes were velvety and she had a dainty nose.

"That's not why I called you and brought you here," the woman said.

"I know what you want." The woman continued what she's saying but Serenity didn't say any word because she's still waiting for the next thing the woman would say.

"Where did she go?" Serenity asked herself, she's really confused right now.

'Wait is that all a dream? But I think it's true? Am I going crazy?'

Serenity's back on the same path that she was taking every day. Even though she still doesn't know what happened earlier she just let it slide then swam back to Anthemoesia.

She saw the man who became a siren earlier and approached him.

His crescent-of-moon eyebrows were thin and narrow. His sharp cheekbones sliced down towards a flinty jaw, and he wore an imperious nose well. His mariner-blue eyes were orb around and darted constantly, a-gleam with delight staring at her.

"Are you alright?" He nodded in response.

Serenity lay down on the rock and rested a little bit. "Who are you?" Serenity opened her eyes and saw the man who turned a siren earlier.

"Serenity," She answered. She's tired of hearing her name all day long.

"My name's Calypso." She just nodded in response and closed her eyes due to tiredness.

"Do you know the reason why you're here?" Serenity asked.

"I'm here to serve Poseidon," Calypso said while smiling.

'Yeah, he doesn't remember anything.'

"You, why are you here?" Calypso asked.

"I don't know the exact reason," Serenity answered. She's still confused about many things.

'Who is that woman? How did she know my name? And why did she turn Calypso into a siren?'

Serenity started to swim again so that she'll stop thinking of that woman earlier. She slipped beneath the calm surface and descended to the coral reef. Orange and yellow tube sponges were scattered across the reef.

The cracklings of snappers and grunts filled her ears. She passed over large mounds of brain corals. Serenity could see the reflection of the moon on the water's surface, tantalizingly teasing her forward. Serenity swam upwards even though she knew she couldn't reach the moon.

The moon shines brightly tonight and its brightness is hitting her face. It's full of imperfections but it's still beautiful and a pleasure to watch. It has beauty and elegance without reason.

Little did Serenity know that there's someone on the shore.

His hand hung over the phone for a minute as he fought the urge to call his father. He faced the ocean, the moon dangling low and large in the sky before him. The sight, sound and scent of the ocean helped him relax.

"Woah..." He couldn't believe his eyes because of what he's seeing right now. He felt somehow drawn in by the scenery of a beautiful woman staring at the moon while she's at the ocean.

"It's so beautiful," he said breathlessly.

"Zephyr." Serenity suddenly hid behind the big rock in panic. She never thought that some people would still be awake this time.

"Zephyr, What are you looking at?" A voice of a woman asked.

"A-ah nothing, oh yeah by the way. Why are you still awake? It's already midnight." Zephyr said, he looked at the ocean but he didn't see Serenity.

'What if that Zephyr person saw me? Argh, I didn't notice earlier because I was too focused on the beauty of the moon.'

"Look who's talking..." She teasingly said.

"Yeah yeah yeah, I was just captivated by what I saw earlier before you came," Zephyr said.

"Tell me what it is?" She asked.

"Secret, We should head home now," he said.

'Maybe he didn't see me.'

Serenity swam back on Anthemoesia so that she could rest.

'I'll be careful next time I explore at night because I'll never know what will happen to me if somebody sees me.'

The Fate Of The World Is In My Hands, But All I Want To Do Is Eat!

'Kill monsters, eat meat' 'I mean, Kill monsters, save lives. Got it.' 'Tut, I could've sworn that the first one sounded better.' She wasn't a girl looking for freedom or self-righteous liberation by a hero, or whatever shit a girl who suffered for almost all her life would crave. -the shit of a life she was living was horrible, but it was bearable, and so she got used to it. Rather, instead of freedom, what this little missy wanted was money. Lots and lots of them so she never has to worry about the next day. Money - bountiful enough that when she has to spend, she doesn't need to look back or calculate her assets to see how much she has left. Money - bountiful enough to get all the fried chicken she could ever dream of. Yeah, you heard it, fried chicken. For those who did not have money to spare leisurely, getting fried chicken was like a pipe dream to them and she had been one of those unfortunate souls. A comfortable roof above her head and no worries as to when she would get ordered around to steal. No worries about when she would get her next meal-- That was her liberation. And she got it. Just that, she got it most absurdly. Awakened! Those were the people ruling the world, alongside beastly and deadly monsters who threatened the safety of average human beings. And those awakened call the shots. Alice never dreamed she would one day be awakened, and compared to others with their game-like system displaying their attributes and strength; she had a full-grown man whom only she could hear, watching her back at every turn and telling her what to do. He was kinda a pain in the ass but she couldn't complain. It was this gift he had bestowed on her that made her the most powerful Awakened there was with stats that even S-class awakeneds couldn't compare to. She was the boss, now. Mwa-hahahahaha. But life didn't go as easy and leisurely as she planned. With great power comes great responsibility, right? Well, in her case with great power comes great hunger. She couldn't go a moment without getting hungry and her stomach had become a bottomless pit. And to get food, she needed money, and to get money, she had to hunt monsters. The monsters plagued humanity, causing catastrophes and taking lives mercilessly. Those monsters, as scary as they may be, were her target and she had to face them head-on. The bigger the monsters the more money she would gain. Yeah, that was the plan, but... This guy acting as her system seemed to have other plans, putting her at the forefront of 'justice' and having her clean the mess he somewhat created. 'Ugh, I can already sense a shadow of foreboding. Someone, please tell me I'm not acting the main character role. I just want to eat, okay?'
