In that span of 5 years, Sam Had cleared 999 levels and on the last moment before he was summoned he cleared the 1000th level.

The dungeon dropped a reward for every stage that gets cleared and as of every 100 levels cleared it would add another big reward on its drop.

Before Sam cleared the 1000th level he would gain 9 rewards per stage but when he cleared 1000th level he gained 10 big rewards.

Luckily the 1000th level dropped a set of equipment as a reward.
