Not Adding Up

Lazeth kept her face neutral, but frustration simmered beneath. Lucia was determined to monopolize Asher's knowledge, and Lazeth couldn't do a thing about it. She had nothing to offer in return.

Reluctantly, she bowed her head slightly and bid her leave.

When only the two of them remained, Lucia's face changed from playful to serious. She began speaking a spell under her breath.

The air in the room vibrated slightly, and an invisible force surrounded them.

"Now, we can begin. Start whenever you're ready." She leaned back in her chair, maintaining her focus on him.

"The spell is simple in theory, but because I don't know what language you're using to cast the spell, I can only give you the general idea of how it works."

Lucia didn't question his decision, recalling their earlier conversation.
