The Grand Finale (Part One)

By the third night, no one had emerged from the bamboo grove.

Xuan Yue had chosen Green Pearl, Yi Lan, and Ya Er as her companions. Among them, Green Pearl was the most skilled, Yi Lan was the quickest, and Ya Er, small and nimble, was the most agile. No matter what Bai Ping Ting said, she was determined to accompany Xuan Yue, who, unable to refuse, took her along. The remaining two hundred people were divided, with some staying behind while others guarded the unreturning valley.

Even if it meant entering a den of dragons and tigers, they had to push forward. Waiting idly was not in Xuan Yue's nature. Knowing the temperament of Gong Shao Hua, she was certain he would arrive swiftly upon hearing news. She had already sent word to Lan Yi Xuan; if they intended to impede this matter, a mere show would suffice.

The five of them climbed over the boulders in the bamboo grove, where the terrain was level and the soft, loose soil felt like stepping on a beach. Aside from the winter plum blossoms that should not have been blooming at this time of year, it appeared no different from an ordinary bamboo forest.

"Stay close and don't wander off."

Bai Ping Ting stood just behind Xuan Yue's left side, with the others following closely. After walking for a while without encountering any danger, they still dared not let their guard down. They were acutely aware that the calm before the storm was palpable in this entirely unfamiliar territory; they must not lower their vigilance.

The forest was vast; after approximately half an hour, they still had not reached the end. The further they went, the more expansive their view became. About three miles ahead, a babbling stream came into sight, its crystalline sound sweet and clear. A refreshing breeze swept over them, carrying a faint fragrance that soothed their frayed nerves.

"Princess, there's water."

Ya Er pointed toward the stream ahead, where the sunlight danced upon the surface, glistening like scattered jewels. Smooth stones and playful fish could be faintly seen beneath the shimmering water.

"I'm covered in sweat; I'll wash my face."

Yi Lan laughed as she rolled up her sleeves and dashed toward the riverbank.

Bai Ping Ting glanced at Xuan Yue and took out her water flask. "Princess, I'll fetch some water."

Only Green Pearl remained vigilant behind Xuan Yue, her sharp eyes scanning the surroundings like a nocturnal leopard, poised to confront any lurking danger.

Ya Er immediately stepped into the water, while Bai Ping Ting and Yi Lan crouched down, gazing into the surface where sunlight pierced their eyes.

Bai Ping Ting halted, her hand stilling with the water flask, while the other two seemed entranced.

As Ya Er reached out to touch the water's surface, her large eyes filled with tears in an instant. "Mother, is it you?"

She gazed silently at the lake, her lips curling into a faint smile, before suddenly bursting into tears like a child. "Father and Mother, I'm so sorry. If it hadn't been for my rescue, you wouldn't have been swept away by the flood. And Brother, he didn't merely get separated from me; I deceived myself. He was beaten to death for stealing money to save me when I fell ill. I am the sinner, the sinner."

By the end, Ya Er was weeping uncontrollably. Green Pearl noticed something amiss and was about to approach when Xuan Yue stopped her. "Stay here; I'll go check."

"Princess."

Green Pearl's expression reflected concern, but Xuan Yue offered her a reassuring smile. "It's likely an illusion technique."

In broad daylight, the ability to wield such sorcery through water was remarkable; even Liu Xin You might not have been capable of it, which filled Xuan Yue with a sense of admiration.

In stark contrast to Ya Er's frenzied sobbing, the silent tears streaming down Yi Lan's face were at odds with her usual tomboyish demeanor. Upon reflection, this might be her true self—a frail woman beneath her tough exterior.

"Father, why did you remain silent when the First Lady reprimanded Mother? Even if you were drunk, after taking Mother as a concubine, shouldn't you have protected her? Do you despise me so much that you never smile at me or even look my way? Father, Mother loved you; can't you treat her a little better? Seeing her cry breaks my heart."

Xuan Yue had never known that the usually innocent and cheerful Ya Er had lived in such self-reproach. Yi Lan, always so warm and welcoming, could have such a troubled past. Perhaps everyone harbored their own unspeakable sorrows, yet they wore brave and resilient smiles. Xuan Yue felt a pang of sorrow for Ya Er, for Yi Lan, for every one of them.

As she approached the lakeside, Xuan Yue leaned forward to examine the surface. Everything appeared normal. She crouched down to pick up the teapot, pondering how to awaken them, when Bai Ping Ting suddenly spoke.

Gently caressing the lake's surface, her movements were laced with an ineffable tenderness, as if the flowing water were her beloved.

"Your Highness."

Her voice was as soft as her gestures, her brows gradually unfurling, a smile blooming on her lips, her eyes sparkling with joy. "Do you truly intend to marry me as your consort? Am I to be the sole princess for all eternity?"

She gasped, then covered her mouth with her hands, her face alight with astonishment as she stared at the lake, where Xuan Yue knew the rippling water must reflect the pristine and warm smile of a pear blossom.

Is this her heart's desire? To become her brother's consort? The only consort?

"Your Highness, it would be my pleasure to care for you in the princess's stead. I would protect her with my life. She is exceptional, wise, and strong; I do not find it burdensome at all. The King of Lan treats her well, and soon she will be the queen of this realm, living happily with the King of Lan. You can rest assured; the princess is extraordinary and will surely heal you. Whether in life or death, I will follow you; you will never be alone."

As Xuan Yue held the teapot, she felt a surge of emotion, on the brink of tears. She understood how deeply Bai Ping Ting loved her brother, a love so profound that it transcended all. To some, such devotion might seem beneath them, yet this selfless love was the truest form of greatness.

Her heart ached. She believed that if danger ever arose, Bai Ping Ting would sacrifice everything to save her. If only one could survive between the two, Bai Ping Ting would undoubtedly give her all chances of survival.

Ah, the love that binds life and death! Xuan Yue felt a bitter sweetness; to become the queen of the realm and live happily with Lan Yi Xuan—she longed for it but knew it was impossible. Even if she were willing to forsake her freedom, happiness would remain elusive.

Is there any way to achieve both in this world, to not betray the Buddha nor disappoint the one you love?

"Sister Ping Ting, your wishes shall come true as well."

Xuan Yue knelt on the ground, gently wiping away Bai Ping Ting's tears. Her brother needed warmth too—not just familial affection but also love. Once the matters concerning Xuanyuan were resolved, she would leave. She would not be the empress revered by all, nor the queen of the Feng Kingdom; she would simply be herself—Feng Xuan Yue, free and unrestrained. Bai Ping Ting would be the only crown princess of the Feng Kingdom, and Xuan Yue had faith that she would take good care of her brother, believing that throughout this lifetime, he would treat her well.

Suddenly, Xuan Yue pinched Bai Ping Ting hard, causing her to wince and furrow her brow. Xuan Yue immediately leaned in closer and shouted, "Bai Ping Ting, wake up!"

Yet, Bai Ping Ting showed no signs of awareness, continuing to mumble, "Your Highness, Your Highness."

Xuan Yue employed the same tactic with Yi Lan and Ya Er, but to no avail.

Indeed, if these illusions were so easily dispelled, the people of Gong Shaohua wouldn't have endured for so many years without ever encountering Xuelan.

Pondering where the problem lay, Xuan Yue gazed into the water's surface, which was as clear as a mirror. A jolt of realization struck her. She turned to the vigilant Lu Zhu and instructed, "Fetch some large stones."

Before long, Lu Zhu returned with stones, and Xuan Yue hefted one with a single hand before casting it into the river. A resounding splash erupted, sending white sprays of water cascading like a waterfall, instantly muddying the previously clear surface.

"What just happened?"

The three of them came to their senses simultaneously, their faces chilled and wet with tears. They exchanged bewildered glances, utterly astonished and unaware of the events that had just transpired.

"Be cautious of the illusion technique next time," Xuan Yue warned Lu Zhu with a glance, signaling her to keep this a secret. Since this was a matter they wished to bury in their hearts, she decided to feign ignorance as well. The past should remain a secret locked within each of them.

The group leaped gracefully over the riverbank.

The recent experience had deepened their understanding of the situation, instilling in them a heightened sense of caution as they followed closely behind Xuan Yue.

On the other side of the lake, the scenery remained largely unchanged; however, the bamboo forest had transformed into a plum blossom grove. Instead of vibrant colors, there were vast expanses of crimson, so striking it seemed as if blood could drip from the petals under the sunlight. Xuan Yue's brow furrowed at the sight; such pure and riotous hues evoked memories of the pear blossoms at Li Hua Zhai.

"Follow me," she instructed.

Leading the way, Xuan Yue took deliberate steps that appeared chaotic yet were infused with caution.

Bai Ping Ting and the others followed in her footsteps, ensuring they mirrored her every move, careful not to stray even a little.

The blossoms were in full bloom, ablaze with color that assaulted the senses.

As the plum petals fell like a rain of blood, they blanketed the ground in a layer of vibrant red, resembling a sea of blood—a sight both beautiful and haunting.

Suddenly, Xuan Yue halted, glancing back to find the plum grove shrouded in mist, rendering the path they had taken completely unrecognizable. The others paused, looking at her with puzzled expressions.

"Damn it," Xuan Yue muttered in frustration. "It's the Falling Blossom Formation."

If only Lan Yi Xuan or the uninjured Bai Zhan Feng were present, perhaps they could work together to escape unscathed. Xuan Yue surveyed the remaining four; the fluttering red blossoms seemed eager to claim new, warm souls.

"Your Highness, you needn't worry about us."

While Yi Lan and the others may have been unfamiliar with the five elements and eight trigrams, Bai Ping Ting was aware of certain things. She knew that the Fallen Blossom Formation harbored lingering souls, and once one entered, there would be no escape.

Seeing Bai Ping Ting's anxious expression, Yi Lan and the others understood that the situation was far from simple. They echoed, "Your Highness, the lady is right; you needn't worry about us."

They were already accustomed to facing peril alone; even if death awaited them, it mattered not, for protecting the princess was worth any sacrifice.

"At a critical moment, I cannot abandon my companions. If I were that kind of person, how could I expect you to follow me in the future? Sit and rest for a moment. Allow me to think; I will find a way to lead you out together."

Her calm voice bore no reproach yet warmed their hearts.

They had come to protect the princess, but she was right; if she were the kind of person who would sacrifice others for her own survival, why would they admire and remain loyal to her?

Since the princess promised to lead them out, they chose to trust her.

The group settled down as instructed, eating a little before Xuan Yue closed her eyes to gather her thoughts.

"Do not fret; together, we can break the formation," she declared, rising to her feet. Clapping her hands, she restored her usual casual smile, pointing to the four cardinal directions: "Guard these four positions."

It was fortunate that Bai Ping Ting had insisted on coming along; otherwise, with only four of them and five directions, their chances of breaking the formation would have been exceedingly slim.

Following Xuan Yue's instructions, Yi Lan and the others positioned themselves accordingly. With a swift leap, Xuan Yue landed in the center, her delicate brows momentarily tightening with determination. They only had enough rations for three days; sitting idly and waiting for death was not in her nature. Uncertainty loomed below, but with companions by her side, she felt strengthened and courageous to press on.

In midair, the white figure resembled a bolt of lightning, her trailing garments fluttering. The snow blade had been unsheathed, its brilliance radiant. As Xuan Yue glanced at Bai Ping Ting and the others standing in formation, she nodded. The silver light sliced through the blooming plum trees, sending blood-red petals flying, showering Xuan Yue in a cascade of crimson.

"Your Highness!"

The four called out in unison, one foot already stepping forward when Xuan Yue brandished her snow blade and cried out, "Stay still!"

The once delicate plum blossoms now resembled sharp blades, slicing through the air to cut her face, leaving deep gashes. The streaming blood left them unable to distinguish whether it was from the trees or their own wounds.

There was no time for panic; the azure sky above turned crimson with blood. The chilling wind felt like the spirits of martyrs. Suddenly, the ground trembled violently, shaking them to their cores. Xuan Yue found herself momentarily unsteady, despite her best efforts to maintain balance.

Compared to Yi Lan and the others, the fluctuations at Xuan Yue's position were surprisingly minimal. Why was that? Wasn't this spot supposed to be the most dangerous? A surge of admiration filled her heart for the strategist who had set this formation, not only for their skill but also for their character. To have crafted a route for escape amidst such peril spoke volumes.

The violent tremors threatened to topple Yi Lan and the others, their hair whipped about by the sudden gusts. In that moment, their instinct was to flee, yet they gritted their teeth, refusing to budge. They were bound by Xuan Yue's command; as long as they had breath, this was where they belonged.

"Come here!"

The group of Lu Zhu Ya, upon receiving the command, dashed towards Xuan Yue without a moment's hesitation, their movements swift and agile. Yi Lan also yearned to leave, yet for reasons unknown, her entire body felt as though it were weighed down by a thousand pounds, seemingly frozen in place, unable to budge an inch.

The tumult had yet to subside when, suspended in mid-air, a silhouette clad in white resembled an eagle spreading its wings. A flash of brilliance pierced through the chaos, followed by a tempest of thunder and lightning, the winds howling ferociously.

"Come to me!"

Since that individual had set their intentions, they must have left a path for survival in this direction.

Yi Lan bit her lip, feeling as if the swirling clouds of dust sought to bury her. The tiny particles, propelled by an overwhelming force, struck her face and body, each impact akin to being pricked by countless needles. At such a moment, she longed to move yet found herself utterly immobilized, an unprecedented terror enveloping her.

Before her, the plum trees split asunder, blood-like blossoms erupting in every direction, and from afar, it seemed as if a thousand horses were galloping towards her. The dust swirled violently, obscuring everything; the sounds of wood clashing echoed—so close, yet so distant—revealing that the plum blossoms could be astonishingly beautiful.

The petals of crimson seemed capable of piercing deep into one's very bones, etching their essence upon the heart, with only the billowing hem of a dress providing a hint of white. Was this a prelude to breaking the formation?

"Yi Lan!"

"Princess!"

Xuan Yue's voice rang out sharply, her body instinctively reacting faster, while the others gasped in alarm, eager to advance but halted by Xuan Yue's commanding shout: "Don't cause any more chaos!"

As several stepped forward, they quickly recoiled; perhaps they feared not for their lives, but none wished to add trouble to Xuan Yue's plight. Standing there, they felt as if they too were swept away by the flying plum blossoms, knowing that plunging into that vortex would be utterly uncontrollable.

Yi Lan felt the ground crumbling beneath her, the sky spinning above. Suddenly, she heard Xuan Yue's anxious voice, jolting her awake. She opened her eyes to see dozens of plum trees barreling towards her, unaware of the imminent danger behind her.

"Be careful."

Xuan Yue, her feet planted upon the plum blossoms, swung her sword at the toppling trees. As Yi Lan turned, she caught sight of the trees falling, her eyes widening in horror as she beheld the bloodied visage of Xuan Yue, pale and gaunt. She gasped, "Princess, don't come closer!"

Over there, Xuan Yue sheathed her sword in her right hand while her left reached out, but the ground beneath Yi Lan crumbled violently. "Give me your hand."

That voice bore the weight of a command, carrying an irresistible authority.

Despite her intent to avoid being a burden, Yi Lan found herself yielding instinctively, extending her hand. Xuan Yue swiftly turned, grasping her left hand. In that moment, as the plum trees fell like rivers in spate, one particularly heavy trunk crashed down towards the back of Yi Lan's head.

"Ah!"

Yi Lan cried out, but Xuan Yue, focused solely on rescuing her, surged forward. The fierce wind whipped through the shattered earth, sending debris flying. With one arm around Yi Lan, Xuan Yue wielded her sword with reckless abandon.

"Princess."

A stone, as large as a fist, hurtled through the powerful wind, striking Xuan Yue's left chest. The impact knocked the breath from her, and she felt as if the area had been pierced by the stone, blood surging forth. She bit down hard, swallowing the blood that welled at her lips, grimacing internally, unsure how long it would take to heal.

Bai Ping Ting, disregarding Xuan Yue's previous command, rushed to her side, taking the unconscious Yi Lan and retreating to a safer position.

In mere moments, the entire garden lay in ruins, a chaotic scene of destruction. Time seemed to blur; all the plum trees had been uprooted, creating a circular formation, each trunk lying flat, resembling enormous wreaths adorned with petals that floated like blood.

As Yi Lan was carried by Bai Ping Ting, Xuan Yue, clutching her injured chest, was unaware of how long it would take for the tremors to cease.

Wounded in the chest and reeling from the violent upheaval, Xuan Yue crouched low, violently coughing before shaking her head. When she looked up, Ya Er pointed to the corner of her mouth, her eyes wide, biting her lip as tears escaped her.

Following the direction of her finger, Xuan Yue touched the sticky blood. She smiled wryly, unsurprised; had Bai Ping Ting and the others charged in as she did, they would surely have perished.

"Princess, you're hurt."

Bai Ping Ting handed Yi Lan over to Lu Zhu, her concern palpable. Xuan Yue waved her hand dismissively, wiping away the blood at her mouth. "It's nothing serious."

The injury wasn't fatal; she was accustomed to such trials. As long as she survived, a bit of rest would suffice.

"How is Yi Lan?"

Xuan Yue turned to see Yi Lan in Lu Zhu's arms, her face covered in dirt, no doubt her own condition wasn't much better.

"I think I saw a tree strike her earlier."

Bai Ping Ting examined Yi Lan thoroughly. "She's unconscious from a heavy blow to the back of her head."

Xuan Yue knew little of medicine, and Bai Ping Ting only had rudimentary knowledge, having sent the capable green-clad one to deal with Xuanyuan's matters.

The plum trees lay fallen, the ground carpeted with blossoms, leaving only stark, barren stumps scattered about, the scene utterly desolate. Yet, looking up at the sky, it was a clear blue, no longer stained with ominous crimson.

"Didn't the people from Lian Cheng say that if any serious ailments arise, they would send individuals here? Let's take Yi Lan inside."

Xuan Yue led the way, a gust of wind brushing past her, causing her to involuntarily gasp, a chill creeping into her bones. This injury was even graver than the one at Li Hua Zhai. How vexing! She hoped this journey wouldn't bring further peril, for it would truly spell disaster.

Lu Zhu carried the unconscious Yi Lan, the four of them following closely behind Xuan Yue through the ravaged landscape. Upon exiting the grove, they encountered a stretch of emerald waters. No longer daring to charge forward recklessly as they had before, they exchanged excited glances at the sight of rising smoke and the delicious aroma wafting from across the lake.

"It must be dinnertime," they realized, their spirits lifting at the prospect of encountering someone soon.

Xuan Yue longed to see who awaited them, craning her neck, eager to witness that individual suddenly appear on the opposite shore of the lake, casting aside her current disheveled appearance.

Across the lake, a dense expanse of woods swayed gently in the breeze, the verdant leaves dancing. As they traversed the forest, a refreshing sight greeted them.

Beneath the azure sky, lotus leaves blanketed the water, with pristine white lotuses standing tall. On the shore stood an elegantly simple wooden pavilion, with a floating bridge leading to the heart of the lake. Amidst the lotus, a glimpse of a small pavilion peeked through. In the corridor, a man clad in white sat at a table, poised to drop a black piece when he suddenly turned to Xuan Yue, exclaiming, "Is it not a joy to have friends come from afar?"

On the opposite side of the lotus pond rises a towering mountainside, where a gentle stream flows down, warm and steaming. The figure of a man becomes clear to Xuan Yue at a glance, despite the distance making his features indistinct. The evening sun beams down, and a breeze comes, creating moments of clarity and obscurity. He wears a blue robe, his lips slightly pursed as if smiling, exuding an air of nobility and grace, unparalleled in its elegance. For a fleeting moment, Xuan Yue nearly believed she was gazing upon Lan Yi Xuan, who was a thousand miles away.

"Wait for me here."

Xuan Yue instructed Bai Ping Ting briefly before leaping gracefully onto the white lotuses blooming in the pond. Upon reaching the pavilion in the lake's heart, she lightly pressed her toes against the ground, grasping the pavilion's pillar with both hands, spinning a few times before settling down opposite Xue Lan Luo.

The chessboard on the stone table displayed a clear divide between black and white pieces, locked in a stalemate. Xuan Yue rested her chin on one hand, her gaze fixed upon the man across from her, finally understanding the source of Lan Yi Xuan's dignified demeanor.

From the moment she first met the Lan Wang in Gan Quan Palace, Xuan Yue felt that Lan Yi Xuan bore little resemblance to his father. She had paid no special attention to it at the time until she saw his portrait during an investigation into Xue Lan Luo, realizing at last why Gong Shao Hua harbored no familial affection and constantly sought to undermine Lan Yi Xuan. To her, Lan Yi Xuan was a reminder of her failed romance and a source of humiliation.

The black piece in Xue Lan Luo's hand fell swiftly, and he soon reached for a white piece from another set, contemplating for a moment before perfectly intercepting the black piece.

"Senior."

Xuan Yue's heart skipped a beat as she gazed into his eyes, which were as flawless and dark as jade. She was taken aback, for according to what Gong Shao Hua had said that day, his eyes had been destroyed. Could it be that he had healed?

Xue Lan Luo chuckled softly, "A heart like a clear mirror."

Xuan Yue suddenly understood, her gaze lingering on Xue Lan Luo.

The lord of Xue Yu Palace, a figure who had once stirred the martial world over a decade ago, with such a countenance and demeanor, it was no wonder Gong Shao Hua was so infatuated. Other women might also be captivated by him, just as they were by Ye Wu Ji, that gentle man with a proud spirit, who had similarly ensnared Liu Xin You.

"Staring at someone like that seems rather impolite."

Xue Lan Luo lifted a cup of freshly brewed tea, its rim lightly grazing the lid. He first brought it to his nose to inhale the aroma, then took a delicate sip. Xuan Yue couldn't help but laugh, finding the elaborate ritual strikingly similar to Lan Yi Xuan's.

"After traversing the gates of the underworld, encountering a beauty of your renown is something to behold. I intend to commit your visage and demeanor to memory, ensuring they are never forgotten."

Xuan Yue continued to gaze at Xue Lan Luo, her expression one of absolute certainty.

Such a response, such an attitude, was unexpected for Xue Lan Luo, stirring a rare delight in his once-numb heart. Setting down his cup, a playful smile graced his lips, adding a touch of warmth to his demeanor.

"It has been quite some time since I encountered such an interesting young lady. What brings you to me?"

Xuan Yue straightened, a smile playing at the corners of her mouth, seemingly casual yet with an undercurrent of seriousness. "Do you remember the name Gong Shao Hua?"

Xue Lan Luo's gaze flickered, his smile fading into a steely expression as he fixed his eyes on Xuan Yue. Soon, however, he returned to his usual indifference. "I have long forgotten past events."

Rising, Xue Lan Luo moved to the corridor, where a vast expanse of lotus flowers stretched before him. Xuan Yue followed, standing behind him, taking in the sight of the all-white lotus field, something she had never witnessed before, especially in this season.

There was no stone slab that could bloom in an array of colors; the reason these lotuses flourished year-round was the warm mountain spring water.

"I once saw a painting in the queen's chambers, depicting a woman seated by a brook, clad in simple garments, tending to her hair. Behind her bloomed vast fields of lotuses in pink, deep red, and pale purple. She must have loved the lotuses dearly, especially the white ones. What do you think of my observation, my lord?"

Xue Lan Luo fell silent. Xue Er had favored understated colors, particularly white, while his own preference leaned toward vivid red. He had once promised under the moonlight that he would plant fields of lotuses in their shared residence, ensuring they would bloom through every season.

"Senior."

At the moment Xuan Yue opened her mouth, Xue Lan Luo suddenly turned, pointing toward Bai Ping Ting and her companions. "You and your friends are injured."

Xuan Yue glanced at Bai Ping Ting and the others, seeing Lu Zhu carrying the unconscious Yi Lan, while Ya Er supported her back. They looked toward her with anxious and worried expressions.

"Jin Mo."

As soon as Xue Lan Luo spoke, a young man in a dark blue robe appeared behind her, his age comparable to Lan Yi Xuan's. His face was tense, shadowed by a layer of frost, and his cold, piercing eyes only softened when directed at Xue Lan Luo.

"Take them to rest and tend to their injuries. Ensure they are well cared for."

Seeing Xue Lan Luo prepare to leave, Xuan Yue hurried forward, grasping his arm.

Jin Mo, who stood beside them, moved quickly to block her, but Xuan Yue anticipated his actions, ducking beneath his arm to clutch Xue Lan Luo's sleeve. With a powerful wave of his hand, Xue Lan Luo dismissed her. Xuan Yue's brow furrowed, her lips pressed tightly together. Her face was caked with dried blood and dirt, rendering her features nearly unrecognizable, save for her eyes, which shone like stars.

Years ago, Xue Lan Luo of Xue Yu Palace was hailed as the foremost expert in the martial world, surpassing even the likes of Nian Tian Ba. Despite the abundance of talent in today's martial arts, Xuan Yue was undoubtedly among the elite. However, having just sustained an injury, any movement sent her true energy coursing chaotically through her body, combined with Xue Lan Luo's attack, causing her chest to feel as if it might explode, and sweat broke out all over her body. Blood concealed the wounds elsewhere, her lips turning white as she spun away, refusing to let go.

"You little girl, you possess quite a bit of skill."

Xue Lan Luo complimented her, an air of newfound admiration in his tone.

"Senior's praise is undeserved."

As she spoke, Xuan Yue drew out the Xue Po from her waist. "If I could match you in combat, I would ask for your assistance."

Records indicated that like Bai Zhan Feng, Xue Lan Luo had been a martial arts enthusiast from a young age, with few rivals in the entire martial world. It was only out of boredom that he founded the renowned Xue Yu Palace in Lan Kingdom.

"You certainly have a bold spirit."

Xue Lan Luo thrusts out a hand, heedless of the danger posed by the unsheathed sword, determined to seize the weapon from Xuan Yue without regard for the potential injury to himself. Blood wells from his palm, yet he seems entirely unconcerned.

Furrowing her brow, Xuan Yue had no intention of harming Xue Lan Luo. She released his garment and stepped back two paces. But as Xue Lan Luo advanced, his long, slender fingers moved with swift precision. Xuan Yue had intended to fight back, but before she could react, Xue Lan Luo's reckless determination overwhelmed her. In that moment of hesitation, the sword was snatched from her grasp.

Looking at her empty palm, Xuan Yue's brows knitted in frustration. She approached Xue Lan Luo, clasping her hands in front of her: "I concede."

A loss is a loss, and even if there were reasons behind it, she could not deny her own inferiority; she was not one to shy away from defeat.

Xue Lan Luo appeared not to hear her words, firmly gripping the Xue Po, weighing it in his hand before raising it high. As the setting sun cast its final light, the world dimmed into twilight, a silvery glow illuminating the space around them. Holding the sword in his right hand, his left fingers glided over the blade, his expression unexpectedly bright with excitement.

"Senior," Xuan Yue said, her head bowed, missing that particular moment. Raising her gaze, she spread her palm before Xue Lan Luo: "Please return my sword."

Though she had lost, the Xue Po held deep significance, having shared life and death alongside her and Lan Yi Xuan; it was a token of love gifted to her by Lan Yi Xuan, and thus, it must be reclaimed.

"How did this sword end up in your possession?"

As Xue Lan Luo sheathed the sword, he did not return it to Xuan Yue.

Upon hearing his question, Xuan Yue finally noticed the emotion in his deep, onyx-like eyes as they gazed upon the Xue Po. Could it be?

Without thinking further, she seized the opportunity as he was distracted, snatching back the Xue Po and reattaching it to her waist. Xue Lan Luo attempted to reclaim it, but Xuan Yue deftly stepped back, avoiding him. Although she was injured and not as nimble as before, evasion was not an insurmountable task.

"It is, of course, a token of affection."

Perched on the railing, Xuan Yue fixed her gaze upon Xue Lan Luo.

Lan Yi Xuan had mentioned that the Xue Po was a gift from Gong Shao Xue on his first birthday. Given its origins, it was likely a present from the original Xue Lan Luo, which explained why he could sense its presence even without sight. Perhaps Lan Yi Xuan's deep feelings were inherited from him; he either loved fiercely or not at all, and once he fell in love, he remained steadfast.

"With an air of nobility and unmatched grace, you truly resemble the friend who gifted me this sword. Earlier, from across the way, I mistook you for him when I saw you holding the black piece."

Seeing that Xue Lan Luo no longer approached, Xuan Yue jumped down from the railing: "Even the manner of drinking tea is identical."

She chuckled lightly and moved closer to Xue Lan Luo: "Though he does resemble the woman depicted in the painting I once saw."

Xue Lan Luo stood still, lost in thought, but his agitation was palpable as he murmured, "Do I resemble her?"

After a pause, he suddenly broke into a joyful laugh: "Is he doing well now?"

His voice trembled, laced with pain and guilt.

Xuan Yue moved to his side and shook her head, realizing he might not see her gesture. She muttered, "Not well."

A tiger does not eat its young; given his question, he must care deeply.

"Not at all well, which is why I came to seek your assistance."

Xuan Yue walked past Xue Lan Luo and approached the stone bridge, waving to Bai Ping Ting and the others on the opposite bank: "Sister Ping Ting, please come over."

When she reached the bridge, she turned to Jin Mo, who stood nearby: "I'm tired; let's go rest."

Casting a glance back at Xue Lan Luo, she noted his solitary figure in the expansive pavilion, his silhouette elongated in the waning light. Had Gong Shao Xue revealed nothing to him over the years? Did she leave the palace without knowing she was pregnant?

As they walked deeper into the plum grove, they gradually heard the gentle murmur of flowing water. Among the lakeside, vast fields of lotus flowers bloomed profusely. Continuing further, they reached clusters of bamboo huts, with plum blossoms ablaze in the backdrop—half verdant, half vibrant red. The surroundings were open, and in the twilight, it felt as if they were immersed in a painting.

Though referred to as Xiluo Village, Xuan Yue felt it more apt to describe it as an estate, the second kingdom established by Xue Lan Luo after Xue Yu Palace.

For convenience, Yi Lan, Lu Zhu, and Ya Er shared quarters, while Bai Ping Ting and Xuan Yue each had their own rooms.

Upon returning to her chamber, Xuan Yue quickly removed her garments to reveal large, dark bruises on her left chest that looked frightening. She tentatively pressed a finger to the area, wincing at the pain that nearly brought her to tears.

Just as she finished tending to her wounds, a knock echoed at the door. Opening it, she found Jin Mo standing there with several others. Observing the food boxes in their hands, Xuan Yue chuckled and stepped aside to let them in.

Before they could enter, she had already taken the food boxes from their hands, placing them on the table. As she opened one, her eyes narrowed with delight, nearly drooling at the sight. Grabbing a pair of chopsticks, she sat down and, while eating, asked Jin Mo, "How is Yi Lan?"

Having never encountered a woman like her before, Jin Mo observed her crude demeanor, reminiscent of a starving ghost.

Given the demeanor of those around her, she clearly held authority over them. Despite being gravely injured herself, she insisted on prioritizing her subordinates' recovery—a truly peculiar individual.

"She won't awaken for a while."

Xuan Yue held her chopsticks with one hand, resting her chin on the back of her hand, her smile replaced with concern: "Is it serious?"

Jin Mo sat down beside her: "With a month of rest, she will be fine."

"Is that so? That's a relief."

Xuan Yue smiled like a blooming lotus, tapping her chopsticks against the table before extracting each dish from the food box and placing them before her. "Why is there no wine?"

Xuan Yue pouted in annoyance; it had been ages since she last savored a drink. Such an array of delicacies demanded to be paired with fine wine for true enjoyment.

"You're injured—"

Before Jin Mo could finish his sentence, Xuan Yue's expression brightened as she picked up two lotus root slices and, without hesitation, stuffed them into her mouth.

Jin Mo watched her in astonishment, never having encountered a woman with such an impressive appetite. After days of subsisting on plain rations, Xuan Yue was determined to indulge now that she had delicious food before her.

Her movements were swift, her right hand a blur as she expertly maneuvered the chopsticks, leaving Jin Mo momentarily dizzy. In just a few heartbeats, he heard a decisive thud as she set down her chopsticks, leaned back in her chair, licked her lips, and patted her belly, a look of bliss and satisfaction gracing her face.

Jin Mo straightened, glancing at the now empty food box and the plates stripped bare on the table. He couldn't help but stare at Xuan Yue, amazed at her remarkable capacity for food.

Xuan Yue leaned back against her chair, meeting Jin Mo's gaze as she let out an unrefined burp. Jin Mo frowned at the sound, while she chuckled lightly and wiped her mouth. "Wasting food is shameful; frugality and thrift are noble virtues of our Phoenix Kingdom."

She wore an air of self-importance, as if her gluttony were a commendable feat.

"Extend your hand," Jin Mo said, turning away to avoid the sight of the culinary chaos.

Xuan Yue burped again, waved her hand dismissively, rose to stretch, and yawned several times, flashing a carefree smile at Jin Mo without a trace of embarrassment. "I'm so sleepy; I want to go to bed."

Indeed, after a hearty meal, she resembled nothing so much as a contented pig.

"Aren't you injured?" Jin Mo inquired, observing her retreating figure. He had been instructed to take good care of her.

"Come back after I wake up," she replied, not wanting to reopen her freshly dressed wounds, fearing the ensuing turmoil that might follow. She had plenty of the pain relief medication Lan Yi Xuan had given her, which had worked wonders.

The bright moon hung in the sky, stars twinkled, and the croaking of frogs echoed from the lotus pond, the moonlit scene extraordinarily enchanting.

In the stillness of the night, the faint strains of a guqin drifted through the air—simple melodies, yet imbued with an indescribable charm, carried to Xuan Yue by the night breeze.

Standing in the corridor, Xuan Yue gazed at Xue Lan Luo, seated in the pavilion, playing beautifully against the backdrop of the lotus fields. The cool night breeze tousled her hair, and the moonlight illuminated the elegant lotus flowers standing tall, the air fragrant with a delicate scent.

As the music faded, Xue Lan Luo turned, and in that same moment, Xuan Yue stood, clapping her hands. "Playing to the moon in the middle of the night—what an elegant pastime, esteemed elder."

Xue Lan Luo smiled faintly, setting his guqin down from his lap.

In an instant, Xuan Yue took a seat opposite him, her eyes sparkling like the clear moon reflected in the pond. "You didn't summon me just to play for me, did you?"

Xue Lan Luo picked up a wine jar from behind him and tossed it toward Xuan Yue. She popped the lid off, leaned in to inhale the aroma, her smile blooming like a flower as she drained the contents in a few swift gulps. "Delicious wine—do you have any more?"

Xue Lan Luo hadn't anticipated her remarkable tolerance; after a whole jar of plum blossom wine, she exhibited no signs of intoxication.

Xuan Yue chuckled softly, well aware of his true intentions for summoning her, feigning ignorance. "The first time I met Young Master Lan, he gave me plum blossom wine. But esteemed elder, are you really so stingy, trying to send me off with just one jar?"

Xue Lan Luo laughed lightly, his eyes reflecting a sadness and confusion as he replied, "This plum blossom wine was brewed with Little Snow years ago, buried underground for over twenty years. Today is the first time I've brought it out for someone else to taste."

Xuan Yue burst into hearty laughter at his words. "Esteemed elder, you're too generous. Such a precious concoction should be savored alone. Surely, there are other fine wines here?"

She swallowed hard, her expression one of greedy anticipation.

Xue Lan Luo smiled slightly, gazing up at the vast starry sky, remaining silent. His stillness echoed the presence of Lan Yi Xuan.

Xuan Yue studied his profile in silence, savoring the richer, deeper flavors of wine that had been aged for over twenty years.

She too gazed at the star-studded sky, pondering what the person far away in Lan Country might be doing. Had Gong Shaohua already set off? Yet now, she felt no urgency; she believed that the man seated opposite her would help her. Having shared experiences, he understood, and thus, she felt confident.

Once, Xue Lan Luo was a youthful prodigy, renowned across the land—what could he not obtain? It was precisely this singular loss that weighed heavily upon him.

Gong Shaoxue had been gone for over ten years, and he still carried that heartache. He had even sacrificed his sight for that lingering bond, choosing seclusion here; surely, that love ran deep. If he cared enough to inquire about Lan Yi Xuan's well-being, he would not abandon those matters entirely.

"Why is he doing so poorly?"

After a long pause, Xue Lan Luo finally turned his gaze from the boundless sky to ask Xuan Yue, who sat beside him.

"That is something you must ask, esteemed elder."

A faint tone laced with reproach escaped her lips, yet deep down, she bore no resentment toward Xuelanluo.

He was a victim of the past, too, having lost the woman he loved. Had it not been for her departure, he would still be unaware that Gong Shaoxue had left carrying his child.

Gong Shaoxue had forsaken Xueyu Palace and Xuelanluo for Gong Shaohua, marrying the Lan King shortly thereafter, likely branded with the stigma of coveting riches.

Regardless of the reasons, such betrayal would be intolerable to a man as proud and lofty as he.

Xianyue sat cross-legged, gazing at Xuelanluo as she spoke quietly, "I am unaware of the entangled emotions between you, Gong Shaohua, and Gong Shaoxue, but surely you were deeply in love with the Empress back then."

If not for such profound love, how could he have chosen to blind himself following her death? When she first emerged, she had spotted a grave beside the lotus pond, meticulously maintained, where Gong Shaoxue had mysteriously vanished after her death, presumably buried by him in this place.

"Gong Shaohua's feelings for you are equally obsessive. Perhaps it is because he loves you so fiercely, or perhaps he seeks a scapegoat for his own failures. To this day, he holds the Empress responsible, believing she wronged him, unable to hate you, so he vents all his resentment on Lan Yixuan. Are you not aware of his methods? How could Lan Gongzi possibly fare well? As a prince of the Lan Kingdom, he has been reduced to wandering the rivers and lakes. Whatever Lan Gongzi desires, she would stop at nothing to destroy. She even once sent assassins after me, although they failed. Before arriving in Chu, the second prince of the Lan Kingdom, Lan Shaochen, was inexplicably murdered, and Gong Shaohua cast all blame on Lan Yixuan before the civil and military officials. The world believes she is Lan Yixuan's biological mother, gentle and close; if he were to show even the slightest defiance, he would be labeled unfilial. Even if he treads carefully, who knows what the future may hold?"

Xuelanluo fell silent; how could he not understand Gong Shaohua's madness? Shaoxue treated Shaohua so well, yet she could still commit such cruelty. What was there that she would not do for revenge?

"What would you have me do?"

After a prolonged silence, Xuelanluo finally voiced his question.

"I do not wish for him to endure this suffering, continuing to recognize a thief as his mother. Since he cannot take action himself, I shall."

Since that night, Xianyue had not seen Xuelanluo again. When she asked Jinmo, he too had no answers.

A month had passed; she estimated that Gong Shaohua's group would soon arrive in Liancheng. Xianyue felt a pang of urgency—regardless of whether she could assist, she should at least inform her, allowing her time to prepare.

One day, having just finished breakfast, Xianyue planned to take a stroll.

The environment here was exquisite, particularly in the early morning when the air was fresh, and engaging in exercise brightened the spirits for the day ahead.

As she reached the door, Bai Pingting unexpectedly approached, holding a white swallow—her familiar messenger bird.

"Princess," Bai Pingting said, removing the note tied to the swallow's leg and handing it to Xianyue. Upon opening it, Xianyue's initial delight swiftly turned to concern.

"Princess, what is it?"

Xianyue crumpled the note and tossed it into the pond before the door. "The Queen has arrived in Xuzhou, Chu. At this pace, she will reach Liancheng within three days."

Yet, she had not seen Xuelanluo for quite some time. This was his territory; if he did not wish to see her, no amount of uproar would change that.

"Green Pearl will stay to care for Yilan. Bring Ya'er and join us."

If they were to set up a formation now, five days should suffice.

"Where are we rushing off to?"

A gentle voice, tinged with amusement, resonated like jade. For a moment, Xianyue thought it was Lan Yixuan. She turned to see Xuelanluo standing by the grave, releasing a sigh of relief; his timely appearance must mean there was hope.

Xuelanluo waved to Bai Pingting and Ya'er, indicating they should leave. Bai Pingting lowered her head while Ya'er turned away, feigning ignorance.

Xuelanluo chuckled softly. "They care for you deeply."

Xianyue raised an eyebrow, confident and proud. "Of course."

As she spoke, she waved her right hand. "You may leave first."

Bai Pingting and Ya'er exchanged glances, and as they departed, Ya'er stuck her tongue out at Xuelanluo, believing that Yilan's current state was his fault. Bai Pingting fixed her gaze on Xuelanluo, feeling a strange familiarity with him but unable to recall where she had seen him before.

"Is there something you wish to say to me, Senior?"

Suddenly, Xuelanluo grasped Xianyue's hand, standing together before the grave. "Xiaoxue, this is Xuan'er's wife—Feng Xianyue. She has come to visit you. Are you happy?"

Xianyue was not taken aback by Xuelanluo's words. She released his hand and squatted on the ground. "Mother, I have come to see you. I often heard Lan Gongzi speak of you; he said you were a kind and gentle woman, a good mother. For these years, he has harbored deep regrets over your death, never managing to let go. But the truth is, I do not have much fondness for you."

"Xianyue."

Xuelanluo called her name heavily, clearly displeased. Xianyue turned to him, her gaze cold yet sincere. "Senior, do you not harbor any resentment towards the Empress? I believe my words are not unfounded. Lan Gongzi cannot enjoy a joyful childhood like ordinary children; at such a young age, he must conceal his emotions, leaving home to navigate the world alone, living without worry yet unable to sleep peacefully. Is this not due to her maternal compassion? Had she been more resolute back then, not blindly indulging familial ties, Lan Gongzi would not have borne such a heavy burden over the years, remaining restless. You too would not have blinded yourself and secluded yourself here."

"If the Empress were still alive today and knew of the hardships Lan Gongzi endured, she would surely be heartbroken. Even if she cared for her sister, she would not allow her to harm her own child. Senior, do you not agree?"

Xianyue stood, tilting her head to look at Xuelanluo. After a moment, she heard a sigh.

"As a father, I have done nothing for him all these years, allowing him to suffer. Shaohua's actions have been utterly disheartening. Had Xiaoxue been alive, she would not have tolerated her continuing to hurt Xuan'er. After more than twenty years of grievances, it is time to understand."

Xuelanluo lowered his head to gaze at Xianyue. "Since all this began with me, let me resolve it myself; you need not intervene."

Xianyue nodded in agreement, feeling a weight lift from her heart.

Snow Lanluo chuckled softly, "Xuan Er is fortunate to encounter a woman like you; he is far luckier than I. Yue'er, could you share some stories about him with me?"

Xuan Yue grasped his hand and nodded in agreement, "Let me assist you over there; we can sit and talk leisurely."

From early morning until dusk, Xuan Yue's words flowed endlessly.

She began to understand Snow Lanluo more, much like how she had longed to hear about her brother's well-being while staying in the Pear Blossom Chamber. She yearned to know what he did each day; even if they could not meet, hearing about him brought them closer together.

Xuan Yue was articulate, with a keen intellect and robust logical reasoning, painting vivid pictures with her words.

She recounted in detail everything from their first encounter at Juyingshan to her marriage with Lan Yixuan, omitting only her experience with the Flower of Love poison. She refrained from revealing that, much like he and Gong Shaoyue, despite being in love, their relationship ultimately met a tragic end. Perhaps this was fate—destined to be, such a man is inherently admired for what he offers others, yet that very gift robs him of his deepest desires.

After evading for over a decade, she was now willing to confront all matters for Lan Yixuan, hoping for his happiness. Let him believe that he could indeed find happiness.

"Does he wish to conquer the world?"

Just as Xuan Yue paused, Snow Lanluo handed her a cup of tea.

"A man's ambitions are often vast; in the realm of six kingdoms, Lan Kingdom stands alongside Xuanyuan. It is not surprising that the young master harbors such aspirations. Did you not have similar ambitions in your youth, esteemed elder?"

Xuan Yue recognized that he did not possess such grand ambitions. The beauty of the world mattered little to him; his pursuit of power stemmed from an overwhelming sense of loneliness and emptiness. Yet, regardless of whether he desired it or not, she would offer it all without reservation.

"According to your thoughts, with Xuanyuan and Lan Kingdom being evenly matched, if an incident were to occur now, causing turmoil in Lan Kingdom, would it not be a great loss? She has always been competitive and ambitious; would it not be wiser for them to unite against external threats?"

"Rather than becoming a revered empress and enjoying the splendor of power, Gong Shaohua would prefer to witness Lan Yixuan suffer. It is better to eliminate the ticking time bomb than to keep such a malignancy close at hand. Have you heard the phrase 'to secure the interior before repelling the exterior'? Only with unity within can they withstand formidable foes. If Lan Kingdom divides, it will fall without waiting for Xuanyuan to attack. I have faith in Lan Yixuan; with him, the kingdom shall not falter."

A gleam of admiration shone brighter in Snow Lanluo's eyes for Xuan Yue.

He felt reassured; having endured so much together, they remained steadfast. Her ability to reach this place for Xuan Yixuan demonstrated her sincere intentions. With such a resolute and perceptive woman by his side, nothing was impossible.

"Xuanyuan Hao is not an easy opponent; although he suffered a great defeat in this battle, he still has the chance to rise again. While Bai Zhanfeng is no weakling, he lacks experience in military strategy. You have journeyed alone for over a month; if morale falters, it will only provide Xuanyuan with an opportunity."

Xuan Yue chuckled lightly, resembling a cunning fox, "Xuanyuan Hao is currently in the Kingdom of Chu; he cannot go anywhere." Such a proud man would never return to Xuanyuan without reclaiming his honor. Even though Xuanyuan's actual power rests with him, after such a defeat, how could he face the citizens and officials of Xuanyuan?

Xuan Yue's smile brightened further, "There is only one Xuanyuan Hao. No matter how talented or regal he is, there will always be dissent and discord. Furthermore, after his crushing defeat at Biluojing, discontent will only grow. In this world, there are neither eternal enemies nor permanent friends, only enduring interests. The allure of power is too great for many to resist. I have already faced Xuanyuan Hao on the battlefield once, resulting in countless casualties. I do not wish to continue this war nor stain my hands with further bloodshed. Let them engage in their own fierce battles, and I shall reap the rewards without conflict; is that not better?"

Snow Lanluo was taken aback, a smile breaking upon his face. He felt fortunate for Lan Yixuan, grateful that this wise woman was his queen. She would not bring him harm; otherwise, with her status, intelligence, and capabilities, securing a place for Feng Kingdom in this world would be no challenge. Fortunately, she did not possess such grand ambitions.

"Having a woman like you as his wife is indeed Xuan Er's blessing; he is truly fortunate."

Snow Lanluo laughed heartily.

Xuan Yue turned to gaze at the crimson sky beyond the lakeside pavilion, another day had passed. Once she dealt with Gong Shaohua, only Xuanyuan remained. Green Garb had followed her instructions; she wondered how far along they were. With Xuanyuan Hao absent, things should progress smoothly.

Once that matter was resolved, she and Lan Yixuan would be left with only the facade of a marriage for the world's sake.

Was meeting her, Feng Xuan Yue, truly his blessing? A bittersweet smile graced her lips; perhaps not entirely. Without her, Lan Yixuan's talents would inevitably conquer the world. Even if she could lend him a helping hand, his heart would always bear an irreparable void.

"I promised to help him, and since this is what he desires, I will surely do my utmost. In a few days, Gong Shaohua will arrive."

Snow Lanluo nodded, "My informants have reported; she is accompanied by hundreds, all from Xueyu Palace, and their skills are commendable. Alas—"

Xuan Yue sighed; so many had come merely to accompany her to the grave.

"Yue'er, does he know?"

Snow Lanluo hesitated before asking, "Is he aware of my existence?"

Xuan Yue paused for a moment before replying truthfully, "The young master has never mentioned this to me."

Snow Lanluo seemed slightly disappointed but quickly composed himself, "That is fine; he is the prince of Lan Kingdom. With you by his side, that is enough."

Five days later, Xuan Yue spotted Gong Shaohua seated in a sedan chair at the entrance of Xiluo Village, just as Snow Lanluo had described. Hundreds surrounded him, all riding fine steeds. It was no wonder they could arrive in such a short time.

Three days prior, Xuan Yue's people had completely withdrawn from the entrance of Xiluo Village, hiding in Wuhui Valley. Upon seeing Xuan Yue emerge, Gong Shaohua descended from the chair, shedding his luxurious royal garments for a simple, lightweight dress. With his hair styled like a young maiden, his well-cared-for skin glistened in the sunlight, and from a distance, he smiled softly at Xuan Yue, resembling an innocent girl yet to be wed.

This attire was likely specially chosen for Snow Lanluo; his deep love for her made him reluctant to present himself as the Queen of Lan Kingdom. Even as another's woman, he stubbornly clung to the image of the youthful maiden he once was—loving Snow Lanluo, the innocent and pure Gong Shaohua.

"Yue'er."

Gong Shaohua, supported by Granny Xu, advanced step by step. Even with a change of attire and hairstyle, her regal bearing was unmistakable.

In her youth, Gong Shaohua would surely never have required assistance while walking.

"Where is he?" The faint voice carried a hint of urgency.

Bai Pingting, following Xianyue, couldn't help but wonder if the "he" referred to Xuelanluo.

Suddenly struck by a thought, her eyes widened in realization. No wonder she had always found that person familiar; she had only focused on appearances and failed to remember that, at a cursory glance, Xuelanluo bore an eight-point resemblance to the prince.

"Mother, come with me."

Xianyue took over Gong Shaohua from Granny Xu, with hundreds trailing behind.

Xianyue smiled at the plum grove ahead. If she had truly prepared in advance, even if they possessed extraordinary skills, they would face certain death in such perilous terrain.

Gong Shaohua must have been aware of the dangers lurking ahead, yet she still came, drawn by the love she had yearned for over a decade. On the other hand, during her time in the Lan Kingdom, despite occasional disagreements and conflicts with Xianyue, she generally behaved obediently, displaying great affection for her mother. If it were not so, how could she have come?

The path was clear, devoid of danger. After passing the lakeside and navigating the woods, they arrived at a large lotus pond. Across the expanse, Xuelanluo, clad in a blue robe and holding a white chess piece, turned at the sound of their footsteps and remarked, "Guests have arrived."

His voice, as gentle as water, echoed like droplets cascading over stones—clear and melodious yet chilling, evoking a sense of cold dread. It starkly contrasted with the warm and familiar Xuelanluo of recent days.

As for Gong Shaohua, he must harbor deep resentment toward her. He had blinded himself to avoid seeing the face that mirrored his beloved's. Even now, despite his loyalty to Lan Yixuan, he could not muster a kind demeanor.

Unfazed by the frosty distance he maintained, Gong Shaohua felt an unexpected stir within her. That familiar voice, after more than ten years, resounded in her ears, sending her heart racing wildly. She gazed at Xuelanluo, seated in the pavilion at the lake's center, her eyes filled with an unwavering passion. The obsessive love she held in her heart had not waned with time; instead, it fermented like aged wine, becoming ever more fragrant and potent.

"Gong Master," she called softly, her voice laced with a hint of shyness, her smile blooming like a flower—infatuated and charming, she appeared as innocent as a young girl.

Her feet, no longer under her control, moved towards him as she leaned against the arched stone bridge. Granny Xu and the others attempted to follow, but Xianyue hurried onto the bridge, arms outstretched, blocking their path: "At this moment, Mother would likely prefer not to be disturbed while catching up with an old friend."

Granny Xu watched as Gong Shaohua's figure grew distant. In no time, she had crossed the bridge and reached the lakeside pavilion, where the mist rose from the lotus ponds, obscuring Gong Shaohua's silhouette.

Xianyue perched on the railing of the bridge while Bai Pingting stood opposite, leaning against it.

To become Gong Shaohua's close attendant required not only unwavering loyalty but also the ability to read the room and gauge the situation. At this juncture, it was wise to retreat, for she held a modicum of fear toward Xianyue, unwilling to act rashly before her. The others, seeing Granny Xu remain stationary, obediently stayed put.

Before long, Jin Mo emerged from the pavilion, followed by four young women of similar height and age. As they passed Bai Pingting and Xianyue, he announced, "My master has stated that our friends from the Lan Kingdom have traveled far and must be weary. Allow me to show you to a place to rest."

Granny Xu's face reflected skepticism, and she hesitated, casting a glance at Xianyue, as if seeking her counsel.

These individuals had always acted solely at Gong Shaohua's command; now that she was absent, Jin Mo seemed no different from a stranger.

"Granny Xu has cared for Mother for so many years; she should understand her temperament. If nothing seems amiss, does she truly wish to test her luck?"

Xianyue leaned back slightly, extending her right hand. In the sunlight, her long, white nails gleamed with a lustrous sheen. She raised it to her lips, blowing gently, her eyes half-closed, exuding a lazy indifference. The curvature of her hand, sharp as a blade, was cold and merciless, sending chills coursing through the onlookers.

Noticing Granny Xu's expression shift, Xianyue smiled in satisfaction and turned her gaze to Jin Mo: "Jin Mo, since Granny Xu is so apprehensive, please escort her to Mother."

Just as Xianyue finished speaking, Jin Mo had yet to move, but Granny Xu already shook her head vigorously: "No need."

At this moment, even if the princess remained unperturbed, should she anger another, it would spell doom for her.

"Everyone, please follow me."

As Jin Mo passed by Xianyue, he bowed respectfully. Since their conversation with Xuelanluo, the residents of Xilu Village had treated her with great courtesy.

Jin Mo led the way, while the four women who had initially trailed him now flanked him, with those accompanying Gong Shaohua positioned in the center.

"Isn't the Young Lady accompanying us?"

Xianyue leaped off the bridge, yawning and stretching lazily: "I got up early to fetch Mother and am utterly exhausted. You all enjoy yourselves; I'm off to sleep."

With her eyes closed, she brushed past Granny Xu, inadvertently striking her fist against Granny Xu's face. Granny Xu yelped in pain and shot Xianyue an admonishing glare. Xianyue opened her eyes, and upon seeing Granny Xu clutching her face, she immediately averted her gaze. She waved her fist and leaned closer to Granny Xu: "Granny Xu, my apologies for hitting you; it was unintentional. But why were you standing there?"

Xianyue chuckled lightly and said to Bai Pingting behind her, "Sister Pingting, please support me. Otherwise, with my eyes closed, I might hit someone else. I'm so sleepy, so very sleepy."

As Xianyue continued to murmur complaints, she finally fell silent. Granny Xu, still covering her aching face, fixed her gaze on Xianyue's retreating figure, wishing she could bore a hole into her back.

Xianyue was notorious for being singularly focused on eating and sleeping; Granny Xu held no suspicions about her demeanor.

Following Jin Mo, Xianyue and Bai Pingting parted ways at the bamboo cottage, while the rest of the group, led by Jin Mo, entered the other houses.

"Princess."

As Xianyue stepped inside, Ya'er and Lvzhu rushed to greet her. During this time, Lvzhu had been tending to the unconscious Yilan, and their sisterly bond deepened as Yilan's condition lingered. Lvzhu had noticeably lost weight.

Xianyue entered the room, and as soon as Bai Pingting followed her inside, she closed the door.

"Princess, how could the queen's people be here? What is her relationship with that Xue senior? And—"

Xuan Yue's gaze, seemingly indifferent, fell upon Bai Pingting, instantly silencing her.

"Sister Pingting, I brought you along because I trust you. You will find no answers to those questions here. Do not inquire about anything that happens in Xilu Village; keep everything to yourself and never mention it to outsiders. Do you understand?"

Bai Pingting stared at Xuan Yue, somewhat startled by her earnestness, and nodded.

"Alright, I'm tired now and need to rest."

With that, Xuan Yue propped herself up on the table, stood, and with her eyes closed, made her way to the bed. She leapt onto it and closed her eyes, saying, "Wake me in an hour."

Gong Shaohua gazed dreamily at the figure across from her. It had been over a decade since they last met, yet he remained as he was—elegant, noble, and sacred, like an unwithering white lotus in the pond. He knew that her sister adored the white lotus but remained oblivious to the fact that it was also her greatest love. The similarities between him and the white lotus were striking; both stood high and untouchable.

All along, it had been this way. No matter how serious or diligent she was, the people of Xueyu Palace praised her sister alone. In his eyes, there was only her sister. Though they bore identical faces, what was it that made her less worthy?

She was indignant—truly indignant.

"Palace Master, Shaohua is finally seeing you again."

Gong Shaohua fixated on that familiar countenance, a deep impression burned into her heart.

After more than a decade, following her sister's departure, he too had evaporated from the realm of the living. Despite her relentless efforts, she had never managed to see him. Now that they had truly met again, it felt surreal.

She understood that he had blinded himself out of grief for his sister. Was she truly that exceptional? Those who claimed Gong Shaohua to be proud and ruthless—what was so commendable about Gong Shaoxue? She was neither as skilled nor as competent and was timid to the core. Ultimately, she was just a woman enamored with vanity; otherwise, how could she have wed the King of Lan?

Xue Lanluo did not respond; she merely placed a white piece down gently, then picked up a black piece, contemplating for a moment but delaying her move. Finally, she sighed helplessly, "So what if we've met? So what if we haven't? It's been twelve years, Shaohua. Why must you remain so obstinate?"

Her voice, soft as water, conveyed no hint of emotion, as if, for her, meeting or not meeting made no difference. In truth, it was precisely that way—sometimes, not seeing was preferable to seeing.

"Obstinate?"

Gong Shaohua's brows furrowed tightly, her eyes, innocent yet smiling, suddenly darkened with a storm of emotions. In an instant, warmth was doused by a cold wave, her recently thawed heart felt as though it had been doused in icy water, freezing in an instant.

"Have I become this way because of you? What is so special about Gong Shaoxue? She lacks my prowess, is less efficient than I, and is a coward to boot. At the end of the day, she is just a woman obsessed with vanity. To her, you are nothing compared to power and status. Why do you love her but disregard my sacrifices? I am the one who has steadfastly remained by your side for a decade since your sister's departure. Why is it that you have no place for me in your heart?"

Gong Shaohua's voice grew increasingly frantic, nearly culminating in a roar.

In her eyes, Gong Shaoxue was nothing but a waste—afraid of hardship, pain, and blood. She learned no martial arts, couldn't bear to witness bloodshed, and hid behind her whenever confronted by snakes or insects. Yet why? Why did all those men prefer her? The Palace Master and the King of Lan were both the same; she could sense that the King understood something—that the worthless woman harbored no feelings for him. He knew she wasn't that pathetic creature, yet still showered her with unparalleled affection. How could a man who felt no concern for his own child lavish such love on another's son? Such a man was not only a fool but also blind.

"What if we meet? What if we don't? Palace Master, now that I have found you, even if I must bind you, I won't let you leave my side again. Wasn't it to that coward that you destroyed your own eyes? Why not now, for me, make your legs useless as well?"

Even if blind, Xue Lanluo knew that Gong Shaohua's eyes were wide open, filled with a monstrous intensity. Beyond her pride, she had always been ruthless in pursuing her desires, which was precisely why he had never liked her. Her character and methods mirrored his youthful self, like a mirror reflecting his own image—he saw in her a path soaked in blood to achieve her goals. After witnessing so much slaughter and bloodshed, he yearned for someone pure as ice to soothe his restless heart. Being with Xiao Xue was comforting.

"This is the difference between Xiao Xue and you."

Xue Lanluo sighed, reaching for the tea beside her. Before it could touch her lips, Gong Shaohua snatched it away. She brought it to her own nose, took a sip, and a satisfied smile flickered on her lips. "Lotus seed tea."

Gong Shaohua chuckled softly. "It's been over a decade, yet your taste remains unchanged, Palace Master."

She savored a few more sips. "Just like the tea you brewed for my sister back then."

"Palace Master, do you still remember our first meeting? At that time, the Zhou Dynasty had just suffered a plague. My sister and I had no choice but to sell ourselves to bury our father. On the streets of Lan City, you gave us a gold leaf. I still remember that day you wore a red outfit embroidered with plum blossoms. I thought then that in this lifetime, I would marry you. So after burying my father, I clung to my sister and followed you back to Xueyu Palace. I had never seen such a beautiful house, like a palace from legends. At that moment, my sister and I felt like beggars. I was mortified and swore to make myself better; otherwise, even as a mere concubine, I wouldn't deserve to be with you. From that moment on, I strove to excel, eager to be the best."

Xue Lanluo sighed. Yes, he had once favored red. Ever since Xiao Xue left, he had never donned such vibrant garments again.

"My sister and I trained under you. Back then, I didn't particularly dislike her; she was simply timid by nature. Before our father died, I promised to take good care of her. People in the palace said she was kind and docile; although I was uncomfortable with that, I accepted it. But what I couldn't bear was that you, Palace Master, would actually take a liking to her—unaccomplished in both literature and martial arts, how could she possibly be worthy of you?"

"So you forced her to leave."

Xue Lanluo did not soften her stance due to Gong Shaohua's words. Instead, her raised voice grew colder and stiffer.

Inside the pavilion, the small stove puffed steam incessantly, the lingering fragrance tantalizing the senses.

"Do you truly believe that Xiao Xue is as incompetent and timid as you claim? She merely yields to you; has she ever competed with you for anything?"

Xue Lanluo sighed. Xuan Yue was right; kindness was not a flaw, but it was precisely her excessive compassion and tolerance towards Shaohua that had led to tragedy. If she had been a bit more selfish and brave in the past, perhaps their family of three could have lived happily now, and Shaohua would not have become what he was today.

"Yield to me? Does Shaohua really need her to concede? Just because she never contended with me, does that mean you would favor her? This is all she has told you, isn't it?"

Shaohua's face was twisted in disdain. "I can hardly stand her hypocritical demeanor."

The more Shaohua spoke, the more animated she became. Suddenly, recalling something, she burst into laughter. "Everything she cherishes was originally mine. I will destroy everything she holds dear. Isn't she devoted to her son? In the end, isn't it her own precious child, the one she cherished, who ends up killing her? She knows the truth, but what does it matter? She still chooses to recognize a thief as her mother. He is doomed to be unhappy for the rest of his life, ha ha!"

Standing up in mirth, Shaohua circled the pavilion, but the beautiful scenery surrounding her felt desolate and remote.

She knelt before Xue Lanluo, clasping his hand. "The master is meant to be exalted, deserving of reverence. How can you dwell in this place?"

Without hesitation, Xue Lanluo shrugged off her hand. "You harbor feelings for me and are Xuan Er's aunt. Why not consider the past and allow him a bit more happiness? Shaohua, Xiao Xue always has you in mind, yet you accuse her of being insincere. You are always like this—regardless of how well others treat you, if they ever fail to meet your expectations, you harbor resentment and wish to destroy them. You are far too extreme."

In response to Shaohua's plaintive cries, Xue Lanluo remained remarkably calm. Twelve years had passed; the bitterness lingered, but it was no longer as piercing as before. Had she been the Xue Lanluo of yore, she might have acted by now instead of indulging in Shaohua's endless prattle.

"Master, as long as you stay by my side in the future, I will treat Xuan Er as my own son and care for him well."

Shaohua, kneeling beside Xue Lanluo, wept openly. After more than twenty years of obsession, it was not something that could simply be released. Her determination to possess Xue Lanluo had long transcended mere affection.

"Everything began because of me. After more than twenty years, it's time to face the truth."

Suddenly, Xue Lanluo reached out. Shaohua, thinking he was about to embrace her, wiped her tears away, shielding her eyes for a moment. In that instant, Xue Lanluo's right fist struck her chest, causing her to cry out in pain. Clutching her chest, the delicate makeup on her face was ruined, her complexion pale as a peach blossom. She stared at Xue Lanluo, the energy within her spiraling uncontrollably, her body convulsing as she fell to the ground, shaking violently, disbelief filling her tear-streaked eyes.

Twelve years ago, when her sister died, he had never turned on himself. She never imagined it would come to this now.

"Master."

Every inch of her skin felt as if it were being gnawed at by countless ants, a pain that twisted her very bones.

Why was this happening? The struggle near death filled Shaohua with dread. Given her martial prowess, that blow should not have resulted in such agony; something must have gone awry.

With great difficulty, Shaohua propped herself up, unexpectedly spotting the teacup on the table. She glared at Xue Lanluo, her hands clenched into fists, pressing against the ground to keep herself from collapsing. "Master, why do you treat me this way?"

Each word was laced with immense pain, confusion, sorrow, and bitterness.

Xue Lanluo turned away, his obsidian-like eyes reflecting a sense of relief, his lips curving upward as if a weight had lifted. "Did you ever consider the consequences when you tormented Xiao Xue? What you endure now is but a fraction of her suffering. Does it hurt? Have you thought of Xue Er? She considered you her only family. Even while pregnant, she left me for your sake. How much did she care for you? Yet, look at her fate?"

Xue Lanluo laughed, tears streaming down his face, questioning why he was so ruthless towards him despite his inherent kindness.

"Ha ha!"

"Ha ha!"

Shaohua joined in the laughter, crawling closer to Xue Lanluo on the ground. "So you knew all along."

Indeed, it hurt; the spot on her left chest where she had been struck felt like a gaping hole. The energy within her flowed like blood, overwhelming her capacity. Had her sister felt this way too? Yet she still harbored hatred.

Shaohua chuckled softly, tears streaming down her face. "Master, did you ever love me?"

Even just a little, or perhaps a moment of tenderness?

"Not at all. Not even a shred. Perhaps there was a fleeting moment of emotion, but that was not love. In this life, I have only loved your sister."

There was no hesitation, no doubt—his words were resolute and chilling.

"Is that so?"

Shaohua laughed softly, her upturned phoenix eyes sharp and resolute, gritting her teeth. With her right hand braced against the ground, she cautiously drew a dagger from her bosom, its silver gleam hidden beneath her sleeve. With her left hand slamming the ground, she sprang into the air, her body darting like a snake, lunging at Xue Lanluo, the dagger aimed at his heart.

"Master, watch out!"

Meanwhile, the men Shaohua had brought were all dealt with by Jin Mo. Xuan Yue, concerned for Xue Lanluo, wanted to avenge Lan Yi Xuan personally. Unable to sleep as she tossed and turned in bed, she decided to come and check on him, only to stumble upon this perilous scene, her heart racing.

"Master."

Jin Mo rushed over, startled and screaming.

Without a second thought, Xuan Yue unsheathed the Xue Po from her waist, leaping onto the corridor's stairs, her body leaning forward as she aimed the Xue Po directly at the dagger-wielding Shaohua's hand.

"Hmph."

"Ah!"

The muffled sounds of pain and the sharp cries of anguish pierced the air simultaneously as Xuan Yue's sword pierced Gong Shaohua's right shoulder, forcefully pushing her aside to catch the fallen Xue Lanluo.

"Senior."

"Senior, how are you?"

Xuan Yue called out urgently, "Let me stop the bleeding."

Swiftly, Xuan Yue sealed Xue Lanluo's acupoints, halting the gush of blood. She glared at Jin Mo, who stood frozen in shock, and her anger flared. "Jin Mo, come here!"

Jin Mo blinked, looking around before finally snapping back to reality. "Oh!" he exclaimed, rushing to kneel beside Xuan Yue.

"It's futile, utterly futile."

"Ha ha!" Gong Shaohua lay on the ground, her face as pale as parchment, laughing with a cruel delight. "The sword is poisoned."

Xuan Yue entrusted Xue Lanluo to Jin Mo and approached Gong Shaohua, her palm open and her gaze as frigid as ancient obsidian. "Hand over the antidote."

Gong Shaohua glanced at her and turned away, laughing even more gleefully.

Xuan Yue crouched down, delivering a sharp slap to Gong Shaohua's face while gripping her sleeve tightly. "Produce the antidote, do you hear me?"

Gong Shaohua pressed her lips together, fixing her gaze on Xuan Yue. In this moment, her hair was disheveled, her complexion ghastly, and her clothes soaked in blood, giving her a fearsome appearance. "There is no antidote."

She shook her head, reveling in her triumph.

"You're lying."

Although Xuan Yue voiced her disbelief, she knew in her heart that Gong Shaohua was speaking the truth. The poison on the dagger she carried could not simply be undone. This woman, much like Liu Xinyou, was maddeningly obsessive, leaving no escape route for others.

Gong Shaohua brushed Xuan Yue's hand away and crawled slowly toward Xue Lanluo. "Master, even so, I still adore you. My love is solely for you."

Xuan Yue watched as Gong Shaohua struggled on the ground, her body wracked with pain yet relentless in her pursuit, inching closer to Xue Lanluo despite the agony that rendered her nearly unable to stand. It was evident that Gong Shaohua truly loved her master; she had forsaken all principles and dignity. A person of such nobility could love a monarch without losing their composure. Was this what love entailed? A degradation of self-worth.

Perhaps loving someone isn't wrong, but both she and Liu Xinyou had chosen the wrong approach. Thus, throughout their lives, they remained apart from their beloved, ultimately facing hatred from those they cherished.

Was it truly worthwhile to forsake everything, even kinship, for love?

"You love my sister, so what? I am the ultimate victor. In life, we may not be together, but in death, I will drag you along. On the road to the underworld, I will continue to cling to you, never letting you leave my side."

Xuan Yue withdrew the snow-white blade embedded in Gong Shaohua's right shoulder, blood gushing forth, and then drove it straight into her chest.

"Ah!"

Gong Shaohua gasped in horror, her vision blurring, engulfed in a hazy whiteness, as if drifting among ethereal clouds.

Exhausted, she felt an overwhelming fatigue and pain, a desire to close her eyes and slip into eternal slumber, wondering if that would alleviate her suffering.

"Shaohua, what's wrong? Are you hurt again?"

In her daze, she seemed to hear a familiar, concerned voice. The figure before her, bearing an uncanny resemblance to herself, tenderly bandaged her wounds, emanating deep sympathy. "Shaohua, it's your sister's failure. I couldn't care for you properly. Next time, please don't exert yourself so much. Seeing you hurt breaks my heart."

"Shaohua, this is the Hundred Flowers Essence ointment bestowed by the Master. It's said that using it will prevent scars from forming. Here, take it."

"So Shaohua also loves the Master?"

"I am your sister; how could I take away what my little sister treasures?"

"Shaohua, I have but one request: do not harm Xuan Er."

Drained of all strength, Gong Shaohua closed her eyes, the familiar visage lingering in her mind. She wished to banish them but found she lacked the strength to do so.

Xuan Yue regarded the bleeding Gong Shaohua, her gaze fixed on her own right hand, looking toward the direction of the Lan Palace. A sudden light laugh escaped her lips. "Lan Yixuan, I told you I would assist you; I have avenged our mother on your behalf."

"Yue'er, come here."

Xue Lanluo clutched her chest, her smile faint and weak.

"Senior, rest assured, Jin Mo will surely heal you."

Xue Lanluo chuckled softly but coughed lightly, wincing from the pain in her left side.

"Jin Mo, think of a way quickly."

Xue Lanluo grasped Xuan Yue's hand. "Don't make it difficult for him."

Xuan Yue felt a surge of sorrow, biting back tears, overwhelmed by the urge to weep. "Senior, I'm sorry. It's my fault that I've harmed you."

Had it not been for her interference, perhaps he could have lived peacefully in this place, enjoying a quiet life. Not perhaps, but definitely.

"Fool."

Xue Lanluo gently wiped away the tears at Xuan Yue's eyes, a satisfied smile gracing his face. "Yue'er, I owe you my gratitude. For over twenty years, I have never felt as unburdened as I do now."

In the two decades since Xiao Xue's departure, he had found a sense of release he had never known before. Life here was simple, just as Xiao Xue had loved it. For years, he had merely existed, a shell of a man, with his heart having departed alongside Xiao Xue. Engaging in solitary games of chess had merely been an antidote to his profound boredom, for he had been at a loss for what to do.

"I can sense that Xuan Er is a remarkable child, and with you by his side, I have no cause for concern. Over these years, I have never fulfilled my responsibilities as a father, but as I approach my end, I find joy in being able to do something for him."

Xuan Yue nodded, unable to contain her tears any longer as they flowed freely. "I know, Senior. You love him just as deeply as the Empress did. Master Lan is truly lonely; he must wish for your company."

She clasped Xue Lanluo's hand, rough and dry. In that moment, he was no longer the illustrious leader of the Xueyu Palace, renowned and feared across the realm, but merely a father—a father concerned for his son.

"Jin Mo," Xue Lanluo called out softly, his voice growing weaker.

"Your Excellency, what do you wish?"

Initially startled, Jin Mo quickly regained his composure. For years, he had remained at Xue Lanluo's side. His life had been consumed by either chess or staring blankly at the little grave by the lotus pond in front of the bamboo cottage. His face perpetually bore a calm and gentle smile, yet it was as lifeless as still water, cold and unyielding. Perhaps this outcome was a form of liberation for his master; he could finally seek out the woman known as Gong Shaoxue.

"The current King Lan is my son," Xue Lanluo said with a soft laugh, the melancholy in his eyes fading, replaced by joy and pride.

"This is my daughter-in-law." He regarded Xuan Yue with appreciation.

"From now on, she shall be your mistress. If she encounters any trouble, you must do everything in your power to ensure her safety. Communicate this to the others in the village—do you understand?"

Jin Mo grasped Xue Lanluo's hand, nodding earnestly. "Jin Mo understands. I will serve the young mistress with the same loyalty I have shown my master, without any disloyalty."

"Yue'er, this is all I can do for you. After my death, please lay me to rest alongside Xiao Xue. We have been apart for so long; now, I can finally meet her again, and we shall never be separated again. Even if she wishes to depart, I will not allow it. I want to tell her in person that our Xuan Er has grown into an extraordinary young man, and he has a wise and virtuous queen. She can rest assured."

Xuan Yue wept, nodding repeatedly. "Senior, once all this is over, I will bring Master Lan to meet you both."

"That is good. That is good. Yue'er, I have one request."

From the wound on his left side, dark blood began to seep through his garment, startling Xuan Yue. She reached out to stem the flow, but Jin Mo stopped her. "You will be poisoned."

Xuan Yue shot him a fierce glare, wiping her tears away with reckless abandon. "What request do you have, Senior? Just say it. I will do whatever I can."

Xue Lanluo lifted his gaze to the sky. His eyes, long shrouded in darkness, seemed to glimpse something—a sweet, pure, and gentle smile.

Xuan Yue paused, wondering if she was experiencing a hallucination like that of her father. Was it possible she could see the woman named Gong Shaoxue coming to fetch him?

"Yue'er, could you call me 'Father'?" Xue Lanluo's lips curled into a smile, and warmth danced in his eyes under the sunlight. "Every time you address me as 'Senior,' I find myself wishing for the moment when you would call me 'Father' instead."

Xuan Yue hesitated at first, but after uttering the word, all her barriers crumbled. She took hold of Xue Lanluo's hand and called out several more times. His rough, large hand grew cold, its warmth fading, until it finally fell away.

Xue Lanluo slowly closed his eyes, a smile lingering on his lips—a warmth Jin Mo had never witnessed before.

In his final moments, he smiled with such joy.

"Palace Master!" Gong Shaohua suddenly cried out, inexplicably finding the strength to crawl to Xue Lanluo's feet. She turned to Xuan Yue, "You know everything, don't you?"

Xuan Yue turned, astonished to find Gong Shaohua still alive.

"Indeed, you are well-informed. No wonder Xuan Er has chosen you."

"Gong Shaohua, do you regret this outcome?"

Regret? Gong Shaohua stared at Xuan Yue for a long moment. Did she feel regret?

"Sister, Shaohua apologizes, but I truly love the Palace Master."

"If life were to start anew, if I were to encounter the Palace Master once again on the streets of Lan City, I would still choose to act as I did, without remorse."

As she spoke, Gong Shaohua pushed herself up, driving the snow blade into her chest with all her might. Her eyes widened as she toppled toward Xue Lanluo.

In the next life, she wished only for a fleeting encounter, not to know him.

In accordance with Xue Lanluo's final wishes, Xuan Yue laid him to rest alongside Gong Shaoxue. Though they had endured countless trials in life without being together, even if they could not share a bed in life, sharing a grave in death was a form of happiness.
