012 ~ Rejected

Sydney laid on her back on the hardened bed, unsure of what was going on.

Before then, after she had woken up that morning with a bad body ache, Zane waltzed into the room, demanding she get prepared to meet with the witch.

Frustrated, she agreed, putting on another one of Ryder's clothes. She had been there for three whole days and nobody was talking about shopping. At some point, she got discouraged and decided to make do with what she had. She hadn't seen Ryder since the night she suddenly fell asleep.

All through the ride, she wondered where he was and what he could be doing.

"Probably with one of his other mistresses!" She scoffed and looked outside, stirring Zane's curiosity. He wanted to ask what the problem was but seeing that she wasn't smiling, he dropped the thought.

And now, she was lying down on a hard bed with a weird old lady saying some unfamiliar words.

"Just lay still," Zane sighed when she tried standing up. The woman poured more substances on her body, causing her to sneeze. Zane kept a straight face, not looking at Sydney. His main focus was on the witch, not that he didn't trust her. He just felt she always had something entertaining to do. He was never bored around her and that cauldron of hers.

After speaking some strange words, she plucked some strands of hair from her head. The pain induced pain on her which prompted her to sit up abruptly, rubbing the part that hurt. She looked to Zane but he just glanced at her and turned his attention back to the witch.

The witch threw the hair into the boiling pot. And stood back, waiting for something to happen. When the woman didn't move for over five minutes, Zane walked over to her side.

"Stand back, son!" She commanded and after much hesitation, Zane went back to his initial position. The woman cautiously walked toward the cauldron but when she poked her head inside to see what was happening, it exploded in her face. Both Zane and Sydney were startled to the bones. Zane became very alert, his eyes turning purple. Sydney just sat there, gobsmacked. The woman stood up with a disfigured face but after casting a spell on herself, she returned to her normal self.

"She's useless to the alpha!" The woman declared, glaring at Zane. "Why did you bring her here? Do you know what you've done?" She yelled at him.

"What do you mean? You led us to her." Zane defended himself.

"Obviously, you've brought the wrong person. She's very useless to him and must be thrown out. She is not welcome here." She hissed and turned her back, disappearing into the next room.

Sydney, still trying to decipher everything that was going on, stood up with shaking legs. When the pot had exploded, the face of the white wolf she had seen in the woods appeared. Her mind was automatically thrown into the realm of chaos.

"Are you okay?" Zane asked, holding her hand firmly.

"I'm fine." She shook her head a little, letting go of every crazy assumption she had in her head.

"Let's go shopping. I don't feel okay in these." She made sure to show him how big Ryder's clothes were on her. She agreed and took her out of the witch's hut.

"Wait in the car..." He said to Sydney and dashed back into the hut. Not wanting to hear or see any more ridiculous scenes, she obeyed. Zane knocked on the door the woman had taken earlier and it opened up to him.

"I need to know why she is not the one. We had specifically gone to the place you asked us to." Zane explained, frustrated. This was the third lady he was bringing in for an examination but the witch kept dismissing all of them. Because of her inaccuracy, Ryder had gotten married three times and had no result.

"Didn't you hear what I said? Take her back to where she came from. She can never be useful to the alpha."

Zane was frustrated. He had more important things to do rather than traveling the globe looking for a person that is non-existent. He slammed his hand on the door with gritted teeth.

"Listen, old woman, we can't keep playing your games. Tell us where this lady is and let us end this for goodness sake." He yelled but the woman only scoffed.

"Do you think you're the only one who is tired of searching? Or do you think it's easy trying to pinpoint a being that only exists once in a hundred years? You try it."

At that point, Zane was forced to give up and just left. Fuming, he went to the car and shut the door hard. His hands pressed the wheel while he was seething in his anger. The drive back to town was long and painful for both of them.

"Hey! Clothes?" Sydney yelled when he drove past a mall. Not wanting to get into another fight with a woman, he drove back and packed in the lot. He normally didn't shop for anything so he let her knock herself out.

After taking all that she wanted, Zane paid and drove her back. He helped her with some bags and on their way to the room, they bumped into Clara. She didn't bother looking at any of them and Sydney reciprocated the energy, even better.

Clara felt bitter toward Sydney and wished she would just go away but there was nothing she could do because she was the alpha's bride. Or so she used to think.

Sydney's face dropped when she didn't see Ryder in the room. But at least it was a good thing because it meant her husband was not with his mistress.

"I wonder how many he has." She scoffed and dropped the bags she was holding. All of a sudden, she was not excited about arranging her things. She just wanted to have lunch and go to sleep.

"What did that lady mean by me being useless to the alpha?" She asked out of the blue, although not surprising Zane. He even felt the question was coming too late.

He sighed, not knowing what to reply to her with. He was out of words and didn't want to make the matter worse than it already was.

"Just rest and unpack. I will explain everything later." He replied curtly and left the room to avoid further questioning.

He brought out his phone to call the alpha since they were too far away to talk through the mind link.

"She was rejected." He spoke. He made sure nobody was close to him before delivering the devastating news.

"And why are you telling me this?" His alpha was cold about the entire situation, which Zane didn't like. He was hoping he'd be nicer toward her but being through this process three times, he couldn't blame the poor man. He was only seeking a solution to his ailment.

"Get rid of her." The line went dead after he said that. Zane sighed and when he turned, Sydney was right behind him.
