The referee blew the whistle to signify the beginning of the match. Little did most people playing know, the referee also signaled the beginning of the last ninety minutes of someone's career.

Like Jurg and Steve had predicted, Merseyside Red reacted defensively from the opening whistle. Even though they had the first kick of the game, they were satisfied with passing the ball about in their half, occasionally teasing an attack whenever they found space. If Teesside reacted adequately then they would take the ball back to their half without hesitation.

Contrary to how he felt in the game against Manchester Red, Omari didn't feel angry or frustrated whenever the ball was passed around him. He felt happy that from the get go, Merseyside Red considered them enough of a threat to play defensive football, unlike Manchester Red who only did it as a means of conserving a lead.
