"Was it Boss's mother?" Roger asked as if confirming a suspicion.
"Yes," Layla admitted, her tone laced with frustration. "I just wanted to see if she would actually come this time," she added.
Roger sighed, the weight of past memories settling on his shoulders. "Boss's mother won't come. She never does. Not when it matters most. There were other times too, moments when Boss was at his worst, and she still stayed away," he said as he recalled the painful history of Lucius's past.
"I thought maybe she'd changed," Layla murmured. "She came to see who Lucius had married, pretending she cared about his safety. I really believed her words... but it seems I was wrong." She let out a weary sigh, brushing her fingers through her hair. "Anyway, don't tell Lucius about this when he wakes up. He doesn't need to know."
