Allies and Enemies

Sarah quickly burst through the hospital doors, trying to get as far away as possible, knocking a woman down in the process. "I'm so sorry," Sarah said while extending her arm out to help the woman up. "It's okay," the woman said, as she fixed her clothing. "Ma'am are you alright?" The woman asked, as she pointed at Sarah's blood stained shirt. "I'm fine,"Sarah said sternly, as she turned around and ran out the door as fast as she could. Sarah scanned the hospital parking lot looking for a getaway car. Spotting a Kia Sportage at the end of the parking lot, she hurriedly walked towards the car, and pulled on the door handle.

"Shit it's locked," she said, as she looked around to see if anyone was there. She then took her arm and raised it, and slammed her elbow into the window with all her might to break it. She then opened the door and quickly wiped the glass off the seat, before sitting down. Sarah then got under the steering wheel column to hotwire the car. She moved as quickly as possible, as the car alarm was blaring, causing the sound to echo throughout the empty parking lot. Sarah was finally able to get the car to start, and she quickly sped out of the parking lot, before someone could come out and catch her.

Sarah pulled out into oncoming traffic, accelerating her speed, to put as much distance between herself and the chaos she had left behind at the hospital and office. Sarah's mind raced with the gravity of her situation. Now injured, her face plastered all over the news, and the mafia and police after her, Sarah didn't know what to do, and she was now a wanted fugitive with nowhere to go. Weaving through city traffic, Sarah glanced nervously in the rearview mirror, her eyes scanning for any signs of pursuit.

The adrenaline coursing through her veins made it difficult to focus, and the throbbing pain from her stab wound was a constant reminder of the dangers she faced. Gritting her teeth, Sarah pushed past her body's limits, her hands gripping the steering wheel with so much intensity, her knuckles turned white. She knew she needed to find a safe haven where she could regroup and devise a plan to clear her name.

The city streets blurred around her, and Sarah's mind was a whirlwind of questions and uncertainty. How could her life take such an extraordinary turn? One moment, she had been an ordinary office worker and the next she was fighting for her life, now branded a murderer and being hunted down by the police and the criminal underworld. Sarah pushed the car to its limits, navigating the winding roads, refusing to succumb to the fear and uncertainty that threatened to consume her. "Where can I go?" "Who can I run to?" "Who can I truly trust?" She thought to herself, but the thought of putting her loved ones in danger made her feel sick to her stomach.

The car began to stale out and Sarah realized she was running out of gas. Cursing under her breath, she scanned the area for the safest place to stop and refuel. Spotting a deserted gas station in the distance, Sarah gritted her teeth and sped up to reach the gas station, before the car fully gave out on her. As she pulled into the gas station she quickly got out of the car and walked into the store. "20 on pump 2" Sarah says, as she puts the money on the counter. The gas station attendant looked at her wearyingly, as she held her side and leaned against the counter for support. Realizing she hadn't eaten since lunch and she really didn't eat then, she quickly grabbed some food, water, and essentials and left. Once Sarah got back to the car she hurriedly threw the bag into the passenger seat and started pumping the gas.

Sarah's eyes darted nervously from side to side, as she waited for the pump to stop. Sarah's heart pounded as she thought of a million different scenarios in her mind. What if the mafia catches her first? What if they already tracked her down to this location? What if she dies before she can even clear her name? The seconds felt like an eternity, as Sarah watched the numbers on the pump tick by, her fingers tapping impatiently on the side of the car. The sound of a nearby siren sent chills down her spine. Finally the nozzle clicked off and she quickly returned the pump back to its holster. Sliding back into the driver's seat, Sarah took a deep breath, "who can I trust to help me in this situation?" She thought to herself and the only person that came to mind, was her ex-boyfriend Mike.

Sarah and Mike haven't talked in a while, but he was the only one she felt would understand and help her no questions asked. Sarah nervously bit her lip and proceeded to head towards Mike's house. "What if he's not home?" "What if he has someone else?" "What if he slams the door in my face?" These questions raced through Sarah's head, as she pressed on. Her anxiety rose even more, causing her hands to become sweaty and wet against the steering wheel. She took her hands and wiped them against her clothes, as she proceeded to take a deep breath. "Don't get worked up Sarah, you need to try to keep a clear head," she told herself.

When Sarah finally pulled up to Mike's house, she sat in her car for a moment, trying to muster up the courage to go and knock on his door. Sarah took one last look in the mirror and said a quick prayer to herself and got out of the car. She looked around to see if she had been followed and preceded up the steps. The street was uncomfortably quiet, causing Sarah's heart to race. Sarah finally reached the top of the stairs and rang the doorbell. It was quiet, as she waited for Mike to come to the door. Sarah kept her head on a swivel, while anxiously awaiting for him to answer the door.

Sarah started to give up and walk back towards the car, when she heard a slight crack in the door and Mike said "Hello? Can I help you?" Sarah immediately spun around, almost knocking herself off balance. "Mike?" She questioned. "Yes. Who are yo- SARAH!?" He asked shockingly. "Yes, Mike.. It's me." "I really need help and you're the only person I can trust." Mike looked over Sarah and sadness filled his eyes. "Sarah, are you ok?" He asked while staring at her blood soaked clothes. "No..No I'm not," she says, as tears begin to flow down her face. Mike opened the door and gestured for her to come in. He turned and looked around outside before closing the door.

"Do you want something to drink or eat?" Mike asked. Sarah shook her head yes and sat down on the couch, placing her face into her hands and sobbing. Mike went to the kitchen, warmed her up some food, and brought it to her with some water. "Sarah what happened to you?" He asked, concerned. Sarah just cried for a few more minutes, as Mike sat quietly, patiently waiting for her response. Sarah finally composed herself and said " I really don't know Mike," as she grabbed some tissues off the coffee table. "One minute I'm settling in from my lunch break, and the next minute I'm fighting for my life against some mafia members that were coming after Mr.Harrington," she says.

Mike sat there too stunned to speak, trying to wrap his mind around what she just said. "Mafia?, Mr.Harrington, armed man?" I'm confused," Mike said in disbelief. "You're confused, I'm confused too,"Sarah says, as she leans back onto the couch. "Why is the mafia after Mr.Harrington?" Mike asked. "Because he is a criminal, and the leader of another mafia gang that they have issues with. Also the business is just a front to launder money through it, to pay for his criminal activities and lifestyle." Mike leaned back in his chair, letting out a deep sigh.

"Ok, what does all this have to do with you?" Why do you need help?" "Because I... I.." Sarah stutters, as she's not able to bring herself to tell him what she did. Mike grabs her hand and says "Sarah, it's okay you can tell me." Sarah looks up and can see in his eyes that he is being sincere. Sarah took a sip of water and a deep breath hoping to calm her nerves. "Mike.. I ..," she takes another sip of water, "I killed them..," Sarah says, not looking up from her cup. "I took the armed men down and I killed them." Mike's eyes widened and his jaw dropped, unable to believe what he just heard. "I don't know what happened, but after the one gunman stabbed me, something just came over me and I moved like I never moved before, it was scary but fascinating," Sarah says as she looks at her hands. "You...," he paused, "killed them all?" "By yourself?" Mike asked, still in utter shock and disbelief.

"Unfortunately yes, but it's not like I wanted to, I had no choice, I had to protect myself and my coworkers. Mr.Harrington wouldn't even dare to come out of his office, no matter how much they threaten him to. He was gonna leave us all out there to die!!" Sarah yelled. "What else was I supposed to do? Huh!!" Mike proceeded to get up, walk over to Sarah, and just hugged her. "I'm sorry you had to go through that," Mike says, as Sarah just broke down again and through tears said, "now I'm a wanted murderer!" "It's okay Sarah, we will figure this out,"Mike says, trying to comfort her.

Mike slowly pulled her back, now face to face he asked, "Where did those new found abilities come from?" "I don't know, it was just like something unlocked in my brain and I was moving, like it was second nature." "Huh. That's really interesting," Mike says while thinking. "Well we need to come up with a plan to prove your innocence," Mike added, while running different ideas through his mind. "How about you get some rest and we can start devising a plan in the morning," Mike says, as he gets up to get some blankets and pillows. "Okay," Sarah says, as Mike places the blanket over her. "Thank you Mike, for believing in me and helping me. I was so scared you wouldn't," Sarah says as she closes her eyes. "I told you I will always be there for you," Mike says, as he turns off the lights and goes to his room.

Sarah was awoken in the middle of the night, by the sound of a jingling door knob. Sarah slowly gets up and looks out the peephole of the front door, but she doesn't see anyone. Maybe it's just my paranoia she thought to herself, as she laid back down. Just as she was about to settle back in, the front door was kicked in. Thinking on her feet she hid behind the couch, slowly moving around to see who it was. Mike rushes into the living room, in a panic trying to figure out what is going on. The three armed men came in looking like they were ready for war. They had bulletproof vests on, military grade weapons, bulletproof helmets, and military boots.

They moved as one, like an oiled machine, scanning the house. "These men are definitely not with the mafia. Who are they?" Sarah asked herself, as she looked at them from a crack in the couch. When Mike ran out, one of the men punched him in the face, knocking him off balance, and grabbed him to inject something into his neck, causing him to lose his equilibrium and pass out. "Target acquired,"the man says, as he throws Mike over his shoulder.

Sarah gets up moving in the dark like a thief in the night, coming up behind one of the men, using her shirt to choke him. His partner comes up on the side of her punching her in her stab wound, causing her to drop to her knees and clutch her side. He then brutally kicked her in the face, causing her to fall backwards, and hit her head on the coffee table and passed out. The men then dragged Mike out leaving a note on the table for Sarah, when she woke up.
