Zhao Yanan's mind went blank as she stared at the cliff in front of her. She seemed to realize what Chu Yuxuan was about to do and tightly gripped his hand, closing her eyes.
"Vroom!"
Chu Yuxuan floored the accelerator, and the GTR flew off the cliff!
Almost simultaneously, three large trucks collided with a thunderous crash.
As the GTR soared in the air, Chu Yuxuan unbuckled his seatbelt, reclined Zhao Yanan's seat, and pressed himself against her, tightly holding her in his arms. One hand shielded her head against his chest, while the other gripped the seatback to prevent himself from being thrown out by the violent impact.
"Boom!"
The car landed on a steep slope, and after a severe jolt, it began tumbling downward, "Bang! Bang!"
With each flip, the car made a loud noise, and the body shook violently as if it were about to fall apart.
In terms of safety, a speed-oriented GTR was no match for a Volvo with its steel frame. Fortunately, when Chu Yuxuan modified the car, he added two more airbags to the existing six. All of them deployed at this moment, providing considerable cushioning.
Zhao Yanan buried her face in Chu Yuxuan's chest. The intense fear made her scream continuously, and she instinctively wrapped her arms tightly around Chu Yuxuan's waist.
Chu Yuxuan maintained his initial posture, one hand protecting Zhao Yanan's head and the other gripping the seatback. But since he wasn't wearing a seatbelt, his body was thrown around with each roll of the car. If not for his extraordinary strength, he would have been flung out several times.
"Bang! Crash! Thud!"
It was hard to tell how long it took; to Chu Yuxuan, it felt longer than a lifetime.
He had faced death countless times before, but this time, he was more reluctant to die than ever. He couldn't die. The icy beauty in his arms couldn't be without him—at least not now.
Finally, the car crashed through a few trees before being stopped by a large one, likely over a hundred years old, halfway down the mountain. The car's body was deformed, almost unrecognizable. However, when it stopped, the vehicle was relatively upright. Chu Yuxuan was still lying on top of Zhao Yanan, who was screaming uncontrollably, seemingly unaware that the car had stopped.
"Wife, my eardrums are about to burst..." Chu Yuxuan said weakly, his head resting against an airbag, his chin brushing Zhao Yanan's forehead.
"Ah!!"
Zhao Yanan continued to scream for a while before finally coming out of her fear. She cautiously opened her eyes, but all she saw was darkness. In the silence, Chu Yuxuan's heartbeat was loud and clear.
Protected by Chu Yuxuan and the airbags, Zhao Yanan was mostly unharmed. However, her right shoulder throbbed in pain, and her legs were numb from countless hits, especially her right leg, which was so numb she could barely use it. Her right ankle also ached with sharp, stabbing pain.
Feeling the rise and fall of Chu Yuxuan's chest against her face, Zhao Yanan asked shakily, "Yuxuan, are you okay?"
Chu Yuxuan shifted his body down, pressing his mouth against Zhao Yanan's neck. Exhausted, he murmured, "I'm out of strength..."
Zhao Yanan felt the warm breath on her neck, making her body tense up. Her voice trembled even more, "Yuxuan…"
Sensing Zhao Yanan's trembling body, Chu Yuxuan stopped taking advantage of the situation. He fumbled to recline the driver's seat and then, with effort, shifted towards the driver's side. As he moved, his lips accidentally brushed against Zhao Yanan's cheek.
"Just so you know, I didn't do that on purpose. My head wouldn't lift," Chu Yuxuan explained, though his voice was weak.
Zhao Yanan, shivering, raised her hand and instinctively touched her face, only to feel a tree branch as thick as her arm right above her.
It was early March, and the tree branches were bare, allowing the moonlight to filter through in broken fragments, casting faint light on the car.
By now, Zhao Yanan's eyes had adjusted to the darkness. In the dim moonlight, she could see that the tree branch had pierced through the windshield and was directly above her... with traces of blood on it!
Judging by the branch's position, Chu Yuxuan had been caught in the middle of it. When the car stopped, she had felt as though Chu Yuxuan was being crushed by some force, which must have scraped his back!
"Yuxuan, you..."
Zhao Yanan's heart leapt to her throat as she looked at Chu Yuxuan lying on the driver's seat, panting heavily. She couldn't speak, and tears welled up uncontrollably.
If he hadn't protected her, he wouldn't have gotten hurt!
Chu Yuxuan turned his face toward Zhao Yanan and smiled bitterly. "Yanan, can you... give me a kiss?"
He looked incredibly weak, with a large patch of skin scraped off his forehead, oozing blood. His right ear and even the back of his head had various degrees of bruises, though they weren't very visible in the night.
Hearing this seemingly final request, Zhao Yanan covered her mouth to stifle her sobs. Large tears streamed down her face as she forgot to call for help.
"Yanan, do you... do you love me?"
"I don't know," Zhao Yanan cried. "I don't know what love is, I really don't!"
"Then... can you grant me my last wish? Even if it's just a hug..."
Chu Yuxuan's voice grew weaker.
Zhao Yanan wiped away her tears, sobbing for a moment as if making a difficult decision. She crawled over the tree branch, gritting her teeth against the pain in her right foot, but she didn't care anymore. She opened her arms and hugged Chu Yuxuan tightly. After a pause, she closed her eyes, lowered her head, and pressed her soft lips against Chu Yuxuan's.
One second, two seconds, three seconds...
After three seconds, Zhao Yanan instinctively let go.
"Chu Yuxuan, don't die, don't die, please!"
Zhao Yanan cried out in despair, suddenly realizing that what she should be doing was calling for help, not mourning.
But the car doors were deformed and wouldn't open, and she had no idea where her bag had been thrown.
Desperate, Zhao Yanan searched around. After a while, she finally spotted her bag in the cramped and deformed backseat, barely visible in the faint moonlight. She reached over and pulled it out.
However, when she retrieved her phone, she found that not only was the screen shattered, but there was no signal.
This was the back mountain, a remote area. It wasn't surprising there was no signal.
Just as Zhao Yanan was at a loss, she suddenly heard a "bang" from the driver's seat.
Startled, she looked up and saw that the once seemingly dying Chu Yuxuan was now bracing himself with one hand on the seat and the other on the car's roof, kicking the car door with all his might.
He looked as if he had just eaten a hearty meal, showing no signs of weakness.
"The car didn't handle the crash well, and I can't kick the door open... Sigh, there goes my 8 million!" Chu Yuxuan sighed. Feeling someone's gaze, he turned around with an innocent look. "Yanan, why are you staring at me like that?"
Zhao Yanan's breathing grew heavy as she glared at the lively man in front of her. Her face darkened, and she shouted, "Chu Yuxuan!"
Chu Yuxuan still looked innocent. "Hmm?"
Zhao Yanan gritted her teeth. "You jerk!"
After cursing him, she slapped him hard across the face.
Chu Yuxuan didn't dodge, taking the slap head-on. He pretended to be confused, "Why are you hitting me?"
"Is this the time to fool around?!" Zhao Yanan was furious, and she started sobbing again.
