Chapter 298: The Temptation of the Human God

Now that they had learned the whereabouts of their family, Rudeus and Eris couldn't wait to head back to the Holy Kingdom of Millis with Wood, bidding a swift farewell to the beastman tribe.

But due to Wood's arrival, when the "Human God" looked into Rudeus' future again, he noticed a drastic change from the future he had previously foreseen.

In the original future the "Human God" saw, Lilia and Aisha were supposed to be in the Kingdom of Asura, eventually saved by Rudeus.

Paul and Norn were supposed to reunite with Rudeus in the Holy Kingdom of Millis, where a conflict would break out before they reconciled.

As for Zenith, her fate was even worse. She would be transported to the Labyrinth City and sealed in a giant magic crystal.

By the time Rudeus found Zenith, it would be six years later, during which Paul would die while fighting the Hydra that guarded the Labyrinth.

Zenith, after being trapped in the magic crystal for six years, would have become a vegetative state.

Eris' parents, Philip and Hilda, were supposed to have been killed shortly after the teleportation disaster.

But now, the future that the "Human God" had seen for Rudeus and Eris had shifted dramatically!

That was, until Rudeus—a person who was never supposed to exist—appeared in this timeline. This was why the "Human God" had set his sights on Rudeus.

After four hundred cycles of battle, the "Human God" had grown tired of the endless loop.

Although Orsted never managed to kill him, the "Human God" had also never managed to break free of the cycle.

To escape from the relentless pursuit of the Dragon God, the "Human God" intended to use Rudeus, a special existence, to eliminate his greatest obstacle.

By leveraging his ability to foresee the future, the "Human God" could manipulate events to push Rudeus onto a path where he would become Orsted's enemy. That was the "Human God's" advantage.

However, Wood's arrival had stripped him of even that advantage!

If Rudeus was the "Human God's" tool to defeat the Dragon God, then Wood was a massive destabilizing factor.

With Wood's intelligence and leadership, combined with the fact that his fate couldn't be controlled, the "Human God" felt a growing sense of unease.

For this reason, the "Human God" decided that Wood had to be eliminated quickly to restore the future to its original course, allowing him to regain control.

While he could take direct action against Wood, doing so would risk attracting the Dragon God.

The "Human God" wasn't ready for such a confrontation yet, so he needed another way to get rid of Wood.

Furthermore, the fact that Wood had already defeated the Hydra and saved Zenith from becoming a vegetative state demonstrated that his strength was considerable.

Currently, there were only a few individuals in the world, such as the Seven Great Powers or the Demon Kings of the Demon Continent, who might be able to stop Wood.

That night, Rudeus and his companions had planned to rest at the beastman tribe before heading to the Holy Kingdom of Millis with Wood the next morning.

However, that very night, Rudeus was once again visited by the "Human God" in his dreams.

In the familiar white void, the mosaic-faced "Human God" wasted no time, addressing Rudeus directly: "Rudeus, you cannot go to the Holy Kingdom of Millis. You must instead travel to the Kingdom of Asura."

Rudeus, already suspicious of the "Human God" due to the recent events with Wood, had no intention of listening to him. After all, Wood's very existence had proven that the "Human God" was not the all-knowing being he claimed to be.

Whether the "Human God" was truly divine didn't matter to Rudeus anymore. What mattered was that he had been deceived, and that made him untrustworthy.

"My family is in the Holy Kingdom of Millis. Why shouldn't I go and reunite with them?"

Though Rudeus no longer trusted the "Human God," he still wanted to hear what the entity had to say.

"It's not that you can't go to Millis, but it's dangerous for you to go there right now.

The "Human God" knew that his earlier failure with Wood had damaged his credibility.

"Paul and Zenith are in danger? That's impossible! Wood said they were safe."

Rudeus' skepticism was met with silence from the "Human God." He knew that his previous failure with Wood had been a major blunder, and it was only natural that Rudeus would no longer believe him so easily.
