Chapter 77: Latveria

Your private jet descends into Latveria's capital, Hassenstadt.

Latveria is a small country in the Balkans of Europe, currently under a monarchy. You are here because it is where Victor von Doom, now the Dr. Doom, was born.

The capital's airport is modest, a reflection of the nation's neglected infrastructure. A delegation from the monarchy, adorned in extravagant attire, greets you with minimal courtesy.

"Welcome to Latveria," the King's emissary bows. "We are honoured by your visit. The Royal Family has arranged lodging for you in the castle"

"Thank you," you respond politely as you follow him.

This type of greeting feels inadequate, as you had expected atleast prince or someone from the royal family to greet you, considering the importance of your visit.

As you navigate through the capital in the royal car, the oppressive atmosphere almost feels palpable.

The streets are lined with dilapidated buildings, and the people move about with a sense of hopelessness. The oppressive presence of the royal guards ensures any dissent is quickly silenced. The citizens, dressed in worn, ragged clothes, move with a resigned air, their faces etched with hardship.

You arrive at the royal palace, and see its lavish gardens, ornate architecture, and abundance of servants. The stark contrast between the opulence of the royal family and the dire poverty of the common people becomes immediately apparent to you.

"Welcome, Mr. Watson," one of the noblemen greets you with a perfunctory bow. "Welcome to Latveria"

"Thank you," you reply, masking your distaste. "I'm here to discuss opening a branch of our group to provide relief to Latveria. The people seem to be in dire need."

The nobleman waves a hand dismissively. "The people always complain. All they need is just some strong leadership to keep them in line."

You sigh, realising that this will not be easy.

After the nobles leave you to your business, informing you about a meeting later with the king and the council, you are finally able to go out of the castle and meet up with your team, which you had sent here early on right after the Doom fight. Even Aunt May was sent here last week for support.

You had to come here yourself because you still cannot find any trace of Doom and because the team sent here is experiencing difficulties.

You soon discover that any attempt to provide substantial aid or initiate meaningful projects is met with obstruction. The monarchy, viewing the populace as expendable resources, is primarily interested in extorting additional funds rather than facilitating genuine improvements.

Aunt May, who heads the Watson Relief Fund, briefs you on the challenges. "They're making it almost impossible to get anything done," she explains, frustration evident in her voice. "Every step requires bribes and approvals, and they keep increasing their demands."

"I'll try to talk to them, but I doubt it will matter much," you muse, thinking of the earlier haughty attitude of the nobles.

"We appreciate your generous offers," the king's advisor asserts during the meeting. "However, any development initiatives must be routed through our office, and we require a hefty administrative fee."

You had anticipated these challenges before you came here, yet you persist in your efforts to deliver aid, albeit on a smaller scale than initially envisioned.

So you shift your focus on providing immediate relief to the tribes and rural communities, setting up small clinics, distributing food, and offering educational materials. The impact, while modest, should bring some measure of hope and relief to the suffering populace.

"It's a start," Aunt May notes as she supervises the distribution of supplies which were on hold for weeks. "We may not be able to change everything overnight, but these small steps matter." She smiles at you.

After that game night, the way Aunt May looks at you has definitely changed. The same goes for you, as you cannot forget the sinful body hidden beneath her clothes. Every time you look at her lips, you're reminded of how she tastes.

You are sure that Aunt May cannot forget it either, which is why she has thrown herself into work. You have no hurry; slowly but surely, Aunt May will have to accept her feelings.
