Chapter 105 - The Malekith War Part 6

POV: Third Person

Battle Ship Níðhöggr, Above the Capital of Genosha

Start of the Dark Elves Attack.

"What's the situation on the ground?" Freyja asked, her gaze still focused on the enemy ships that were slowly advancing towards the city.

"Just received reports that a black portal appeared in the center of one of the city streets, ma'am. Several dark elves crossed it and began to spread throughout the city," one of her men responded.

"Keep monitoring them and send the coordinates to General Nordur for interception."

"Yes, ma'am."

Given that her ship has the greatest military power and defenses, Freyja was not only in charge of the aerial battle but also responsible for providing information to the ground troops.

"General, the enemy ships have made a move!" one of her soldiers alerted her. On the holographic screen, the four gigantic mother ships of the elves seemed unchanged. The enemy movement in question was the appearance of several other small ships, enemy jets.

"Did they teleport here or were they camouflaged?" the general asked, as she didn't see where they came from.

"It seems they were teleported, ma'am," the soldier responded.

The enemy jets didn't wait for the four other ships and sped off towards the city. As they crossed the forest, they began to fire at the city's buildings and streets.

"Give the order for our drones and jets to attack!"

"Yes, ma'am!"

The enemy jets were fast and flew vertically like black blades. When they passed close to a building, they switched to horizontal, cutting through the structure and causing even more destruction.

"Report, ma'am, there are about forty enemy jets besides the mother ships."

"A smaller number than expected," Freyja said, pleased.

"Drones and Jets have arrived to intercept the enemies!"

The holographic screen in front of Freyja expanded to provide a panoramic view of the entire city. The enemy jets split in various directions, and the drones and jets of Genosha did the same, creating a large air hunt. As this gigantic metropolis is the largest city in the country, there are a large number of golden buildings everywhere. As the aircraft were literally flying between them, the scene resembled a massive game of tag.

"We're taking a lot of damage, ma'am. It seems that the enemy ships are superior," a soldier reported.

Freyja didn't respond. She turned her face to where her husband, Waldhar, had been silent since the beginning of the battle so as not to distract his wife.

"Activate the anti-aircraft defenses!" she ordered.

"Yes, ma'am!"

Waldhar then turned around and left the control room of the ship's central command. He is responsible for all of Genosha's automatic defenses. He has his own control room on the ground, but to facilitate control between the automatic forces and the aeronautics, he has a central command here on the ship. Shortly after he left, one of the subordinates reported.

"Automatic defenses activated!"

Roofs all over the city opened, revealing several compartments from which energy cannons emerged. All these buildings were government property and were positioned throughout the city. Shortly after they appeared, they began firing at the enemies. Each shot was an explosion and an enemy destroyed. These cannons had their sights controlled by Alice, who, in conjunction with the drones and her processing power, had virtually perfect aim. She used the drones as a shield, or to attract and predict the enemy's trajectory to make several accurate shots.

Time passed and the battle continued without either side gaining an advantage. If it continued in this direction, both forces would be completely destroyed. Even with the advantage of numbers and firepower, Freyja couldn't use all the power of the aeronautics and the Níðhöggr, as it would cause too much damage to the city. But she knew that if she didn't activate the next defense, her death toll would continue to grow.

"Two enemy ships have entered the city!"

"It seems that the enemy also understood the situation. And the other two enemy ships?" she asked.

"The other two enemy ships are still parked on the beach a few kilometers from the city."

Two gigantic ships with the same design as the jets appeared in the images, flying a few meters off the ground side by side. Several drones and jets from Genosha that were nearby headed towards them, firing with all their power. The shots and missiles hit the shields of the ships without causing any damage. The enemy's counterattack came with a red energy shot that crossed the air, incinerating the jets and drones. The energy shot didn't stop there; it crossed several buildings, knocking them down.

"Prepare the main weapon!" Freyja shouted.

She realized that her troops didn't have the firepower to deal with this enemy. She wanted to keep the Níðhöggr hidden until she had a chance to destroy the four mother ships at once, but it seems that luck didn't smile on her.

"The enemy ships are going to fire again, ma'am!"

"What's the target?"

"The royal castle!"

Another shot from the two ships occurred. Two red energy blasts crossed the entire city towards the royal castle in the center of the island. But the impact and destruction didn't happen. Instead, the shots collided with an energy barrier that enveloped the entire castle, protecting it.

"Prepare to fire at the four ships!" Freyja gave the order.

If the four mother ships were close, she was one hundred percent sure that the shot would destroy all four together. But she couldn't risk more damage and deaths.

"Ma'am, weapons ready, awaiting order."

"Fire!" ordered the general.

With the order given, the gigantic Níðhöggr, which had been camouflaged above the city, was revealed. Without giving the enemy time to even understand the situation, four rays of energy were fired from it. Two of them descended towards the mother ships in the city, and the other two crossed the sky towards those left behind. Níðhöggr was a ship powered by the energy of a small sun, and its destructive power was insane. The first two energy shots collided perfectly with the target, exploding them. What remained of the two enemy mother ships fell onto the buildings and streets of the city.

"Report. Three enemy ships destroyed!"

"And the fourth?" Freyja asked.

"She managed to dodge in time and is coming in our direction, her speed is increasing!"

"It's a suicide attack!"

Freyja's deduction was correct. The elves understood that they couldn't destroy the enemy ship, so they embarked on a suicide attack. They didn't even hesitate before doing it, they simply put it into action. For them, death was not something terrible, what was terrible was the fury of their king when he found out that their mission had failed.

"We still can't fire the main weapon, ma'am!" one of the soldiers said with a bit of panic in his voice.

"It's too late for that, put the shields at maximum!"

The general made the right decision to abandon the offensive to try to end the enemy's suicide attack before they collided. Freyja then touched a button on her chair to transmit her voice throughout the ship.

"Prepare for impact!"

All the soldiers on board were well trained and held on to any nearby place. A few seconds later, the entire ship shook. The explosion of the mother ship was completely defended by the energy shields around the ship, but they still felt the shock of the explosion.

"Report," the general requested when the ship stopped shaking.

"All systems operational, shields at eighty percent."

"Radar?"

"There is no signal of any more enemy mother ships, all that remains of the enemy air force are their jets."

This news made Freyja smile.

"What is the situation of the ground battle?"

With the situation in the air calmer, Freyja is thinking about helping those on the ground.

"Not good, ma'am, it seems that the enemy's ground force is much more powerful than the air force."

"Can we provide any assistance?" Freyja asked.

"No, ma'am, the enemy and our soldiers are too close, any shot can cause damage to both."

"So we can't do anything but take care of the rest of the enemy jets. Keep observing the situation, if General Nordur asks for our help, we will move quickly."

"Yes, ma'am!"

POV: Third Person

Streets of the Capital City of Genosha

At the Start of the Invasion

"How is the enemy army's progress?"

General Nordur stood facing the street with his sword at his waist. He was wearing his golden armor, with a nearly transparent golden circular shield attached to his back.

"They continue to come in our direction, sir, now from four different directions," one of the soldiers behind the general reported.

"Correction, sir, now there are five attack points all coming in our direction," another soldier who had just received new information reported.

When the enemy ships were detected by the Níðhöggr, the first portal appeared on a distant street in the city. After several soldiers crossed it, the portal closed and opened in another location, and this repeated five times.

"Just as the general said, they are all coming in our direction from five different points, surrounding us," the second soldier behind Nordur said.

All the roads in Genosha were well thought out, all leading to the royal castle in the center of the island. At this moment, the enemy is using this as an advantage, coming from five different directions and surrounding the castle. Nordur, as a soldier with years of experience, understood the enemy's plan even before they approached. He brought a good portion of his men to the castle.

"What is the enemy's strength?" the general asked.

"The enemy force is mostly infantry. They don't have any motorized vehicles, but they are using gigantic beasts similar to mammoths as mounts. There are also several giant green-skinned humanoid monsters dressed only in wild animal skins. They are using tree trunks as weapons."

"Ogres from Vanaheim. They are beings of great strength and resistance, but with little intelligence. For this reason, they are always deceived or convinced to join the cause of others," Nordur said.

Before all this confusion started, Genosha's intelligence discovered many strange movements in the nine realms, but they couldn't get any good information. Now that the war has started, the King deduced that the leader of the elves was after resources. The ogres fall into this category.

"How are the castle's defenses?"

"All active, sir."

"What is it?" Nordur asked, noticing something wrong with his subordinate.

"Sir, I don't mean to disrespect, but is it really necessary for us to be here? With just the castle's defenses, it would be impossible for the elves to cause any damage."

"It's true that they won't be able to set foot inside the castle, but they don't know that. All they know is that we are here to protect the castle, so they think they can invade it. If we leave the castle with only its automatic defenses, they will probably give up the attack and cause chaos elsewhere. So it's better for us to end all this here."

"I understand, sir," the soldier said, knowing that his general was right.

"Boommm!"

Distant explosions are becoming more frequent, the battle against the enemy's air force has just begun.

"It seems they've started," a soldier said.

"Yes, but that doesn't matter, our battlefield is elsewhere."

"Enemy ahead, sir!" someone reported, breaking the calm atmosphere.

With all the civilians in the city evacuated, the enemy army had a quick passage to the city center.

"We confirm, all fronts are in the same situation, sir."

Knowing where the enemy army was coming from, the general built a powerful defense by dividing his army into five parts and positioning them a few kilometers away from the castle. He himself positioned himself on the widest of the five streets, reasoning that this street would be the one where the elves would put their greatest attack force, and he was right.

A few kilometers ahead, he saw more than ten gigantic green beasts similar to prehistoric mammoths. Each of them had their bodies covered in green moss, they had long ivory tusks, and on top of each beast was a dark elf holding the reins. Behind the mammoths were green humanoid beings, five meters tall with robust bodies full of hair. They were all looking forward with a desire that the general knew was for human flesh. The ogres were ready for war. The general couldn't see the dark elves behind them, but he knew they were there.

The tension in the air was high, even the sound of distant explosions seemed to have no meaning for both sides. No one knew who gave the order on the side of the dark elves, but the ten mammoths advanced running as fast as they could across the road.

The animals continued to approach more and more, and when they were about a kilometer away from the general's army, he gave the order that would start the battle.

"FIRE!"
