Roman Superiority

The march from our starting point lasted for a few days, the men were in high spirits and we managed to march a considerable amount of distance each day, the slaves and Spartans meanwhile had quite a tougher time.

It wasn't until a week later that we caught sight of King Leonidas and his men having finally caught up with us.

But when they arrived we'd already built up another fortification, the slaves who were just as able as the spartans arrived late as well, but were pleased to see that their masters had built accomodations for them as well.

"Huff what's the hurry? You guys have been here for days already i presume?" <King Leonidas>

Being questioned by the king pretty much the minute he walked into the command tent.

"Well our scouts spotted the Argosian army so we've been preparing for them. and well we had some time waiting for them to arrive." <Julius >

letting slip the paralell rip towards his own ally, Julius lauded his own men's efforts.

The army had been marching at a fast pace having eventually split into two forces the primary bulk of the two legions marched with Julius while a rearguard force was marching to the limits of the slaves and spartans.

Using their limited horses as runners to keep in constant communication between the two.

While the other horsemen were acting as scout racing further forward than either army looking for signs of the Greecians and the next possible battlefield.

The Argosians were spotted in the north of the spartan nation busy looting and revelling in their spoils of a recently captured city, they were hard to spot as the gigantic plumes of black smoke rose up and were visible for hundreds of Kilometers, however per his request the scouts made their presence known and in doing so lured the Agrosians to come face the Romanus army.

This was Julius's plan, not to fight on the Greecian terms but on his own.

The Argosians would be hard pressed to march and meet this new foe, wearing themselves out in the process, contrary to the honorable methods the Romanus will attack while the Argosians are still setting up their camp.

Catch them with their pants down if you will!

And ontop of that we'll have ambushers lying in wait at the perfect spot for a large army to make camp so that they can attack from within.

Guerilla warfare tactics will be introduced to this world in brutal fashion.

While it won't impress the Spartans to greatly, since we're not under their command we get to fight our way.

The legions had already been informed that we'd be fighting as a legion this time not as a hoplite phalanx.

This also was to show how our own military fought in comparision to our Spartan ally's the fort we'd constructed in the 3 days we'd been here was of a simple design, from the air it's look like a playing card as it was a rectangular shape with rounded corners rather than squared ones.

The soldiers tents had been grouped together and setup allowing for more people to live within these confined spaces, while the new fort also allowed for the driving in of post making these tents taller than when setup normally in the field so the men need not stoop but could stand tall within their new homes.

The central building was the mess hall and next to it the graneries where all food stored were collectively placed.

On the opposite side of the mess hall is the command tent and adjoining it was the commanders den and living quarters.

And last was a single line of workshops these would allow for the logistics corp to tend to the legions weapons, and armour along with using their free time to likewise create some base creature comforts simple tables and chairs that can be used by the men, and the creation of further cups bowls and cutlery for the slaves to use.

The outerwall was a simple construction in that it was a raised was about 7ft tall with a floating platform allowing for one to walk the entire lenth of the walls all the way around the camp.

Some simple watch towers have also bee started taking shape at integral parts of the camp.

Our men were pleased as punch getting the chance to boast to the newly arrived spartans and the captured war slaves.

Both of whom were shocked to the core, many clearly believing we'd created this fort beforehand and only just arrived here to use it rather than creating it after the march.

The camp being a rectangle allowed us to place the Slaves all on one side of the camp while the Romanus and Spartans took up residence on the other side, with the logistic buildings and command seperating them preventing possible issues due to discrimination as the sides come into contact with one another.

The arrived slaves were provided their accomodations before they were pressed into helping out with the workshops own work.

Julius's end goal was to impress upon these captured men, and eventually press them into service as auxilary members of his armed forces until such time as the Greecian penninsula could be counted as a province in his forth coming Empire and they'd get the chance to serve in the regular legions.

The Greecians were shocked the efficiency of these Romanus put all of them to shame, considering the stories they'd heard these were people originating from various fallen kingdoms and yet now...

Under their collective king these people seemed to be able to do anything, and militarily seemed to be unstoppable.

As the army settled into their tents, Julius was busy walking off to the west side of the camp, where the bulk of his legions had already been summoned.

The sun was already going down but with the Argosian having arrived at the same time their own forces did, this was the perfect time for a night raid.

Even if they had scouts having seen the large group arriving they'd no doubt assuming it would be a day if not more before we'd sally forth from the fort.

But this would be their undoing!
