Four days ago, in the grand mansion of the Archduke, the Archduke was engrossed in his work. His office, a spacious room adorned with rich tapestries and filled with the scent of old books, was a testament to his status and taste. The afternoon sun streamed through the large window, casting a warm glow on the polished wooden desk where he sat.
The door creaked open, and the Archduchess walked in. Her hands were carefully balancing a tray of freshly brewed tea and cookies, their aroma filling the room. "Time for some afternoon tea, Hiro," she said, her voice gentle, a soft smile playing on her lips.
The Archduke looked up from his work, his eyes meeting hers. A fond smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. "Sakura, don't you get tired of always bringing me tea?" he asked, his tone teasing. She replied, "Well, if I don't bring you some tea and snacks, you don't even take a break! I don't want you to fall ill due to overworking." Her words were laced with genuine concern, making him chuckle.
The Archduke's eyes twinkled with mischief. "Why don't you feed me then?" he suggested, causing her to blush. "What are you saying!? What if someone came in?" she retorted, her eyes wide with surprise. The Archduke shrugged, "Who would dare to come into the Archduke's office without a knock?"
Just as he finished his sentence, the door opened, revealing an old refined man - their butler. "Excuse me, my lord," he said, his voice respectful. The Archduchess chuckled, "Yeah right, who would dare?" The Archduke sighed, then turned to the butler, "What is it, Ainz?"
"My lord, a letter has arrived for you," Ainz said, handing over the letter to him. The Archduke looked confused once he saw the seal on the letter. "Willowshade? I don't think I know anyone from there…" His mind raced with possibilities as he started to open the letter. The Archduchess thanked Ainz for his work and offered him some tea, but he politely declined, stating he must return to his duty.
As the Archduke read the letter, his eyes widened in shock. His heart pounded in his chest, and a cold dread washed over him. He stood up abruptly, causing the Archduchess and the butler to notice. "What's wrong, Hiro?" the Archduchess asked, concern evident in her voice. The Archduke tried to speak, but words failed him. He simply handed the letter to her.
"Hmm?" The Archduchess took the letter from his hand and started to read it. As she read, her eyes widened, and tears began to form. "Is this… true…?" she asked, her voice shaking. The Archduke, regaining his composure, replied, "We are heading there immediately."
