This Is Where I Want To Live

"Kai! Deliver this to the gated neighborhood," Grandma exclaimed from the kitchen, hauling a large sack of onions on the table.

Kai quickly stood from the couch but waited a few seconds since he didn't want to appear eager.

A day had passed since he had transmigrated to Kai Guo's body, and he now figured out that he was a lazy, foul-mouthed student who didn't have any friends. In short, he was a total troublemaker.

Kai lost a total of 7 XP before coming to that conclusion.

Fortunately, they had one thing in common—they didn't have any friends. So, that aspect wasn't too difficult to emulate.

The other aspects of Kai Guo, however, were definitely the complete opposite of his personality.

"Why me?" Kai whined, finally walking into the kitchen.

"Get your lazy ass up. I've been peeling these onions since morning for the rich people in the other neighborhood. The least you could do is deliver it to them," she scolded, causing Kai to purse his lips.

"Fine," he grumbled, "I'm going."

"Give this to the Cheng family, who lives in the big red mansion," she instructed.

Kai waved her off and went out of their small house. He sighed right away as he closed the door of their abode. He really wasn't used to acting rebellious, but he definitely had to get used to it if he wanted to live as Kai Guo.

Kai started walking to the neighborhood next to theirs. Fortunately, it wasn't too hard to find since it was the only gated neighborhood in their community.

As he walked in, he was suddenly stopped by a security guard with a buzzed haircut. He pointed his baton to Kai's chest and narrowed his eyes.

"What are you doing here?" he asked.

Kai gulped at the sight of his baton but tried not to show his nervousness.

He nonchalantly brought the sack of onions up to show it to the guard. "My grandma asked me to deliver this."

The security guard paused for a few moments before clicking his tongue. Then, he finally opened the gate, still subtly glaring at Kai. "You better not cause any trouble in this neighborhood, kid."

Kai chuckled and raised his hands in surrender. "Don't worry. I won't do it when you're around," he smirked.

With that, he ran away from the guard and inside the gated neighborhood. Kai heard the guard screaming for him to come back, but he just ignored him.

"That was scary," he said, placing his hand over his chest.

It was only when he caught his breath that he was able to appreciate the beauty of the neighborhood. His eyes widened in amazement as he took in the picturesque surroundings.

Towering trees lined the carefully manicured paths, and strategically placed rocks adorned the walkways.

"Is that a fountain?" he muttered, finding it ridiculous to see a quaint fountain bubbling merrily in the center.

It was a stark contrast to their neighborhood.

"Wow, I've never seen so many rocks look so deliberately placed in my life," Kai muttered to himself, a hint of amusement in his voice.

It didn't take him long to find the red mansion Grandma Bingbing was talking about. It was the biggest house in the neighborhood, and it also had the words 'Cheng's Residence' written on its front door.

He adjusted the bag of onions on his shoulder and took a deep breath, readying himself for the encounter.

Kai knocked on the ornate door adorned with an intricately designed knocker that seemed almost too fancy for a vegetable delivery. The door creaked open, revealing a towering figure on the other side. The man stood at an impressive 6'8", his features sharp and prominent.

What caught Kai's attention, however, was the seemingly permanent frown etched onto the man's face.

"Onion delivery," he quietly said, feeling small before the man.

The man's stern gaze didn't soften as he assessed Kai and the bag of onions.

"About time," he grumbled, taking the bag from Kai's hands with a firm grip.

Kai couldn't help but be intrigued by the imposing figure before him. "You know, with a mansion like this, you'd think the onions would be delivered by a butler or something, not me," he quipped, hoping to lighten the mood.

The tall man didn't crack a smile, causing Kai to purse his lips. "Tell your grandma to deliver it next time. I don't want her troublemaker grandson coming close to our house."

With that, he slammed the door shut.

"Welp," Kai muttered. "I was about to ask him how he achieved that height, but let's forget about it."

As Kai turned to leave the mansion behind, he couldn't help but shake his head in amusement.

Deciding to make his way back to his more familiar neighborhood, Kai winded through the well-groomed pathways, occasionally glancing at the extravagant houses.

However, he quickly halted when a familiar sound caught his attention.

A small smile graced his lips.

It was the rhythmic dribbling of a basketball.
