"Lucifer?????"
"Constantine!!!!"
Two voices with different tones echoed at the same time. Constantine was surprised while Lucifer was angry. Within seconds, Constantine had thrown his hands up and yelled: "Let's talk this through! Don't get violent! I didn't mean to do what I did last time!!!!"
Lucifer took a deep breath, trying to calm his emotions. He said to Constantine, "Last time, you took advantage of my absence, wrecked my bar, had those Magma demons burn down my house and then hid at the edge of the spirit world to avoid me. Consequently, you also brought a bunch of void demons to hell and wrecked my home…"
At this point, Shiller, who was in bed, had picked up an apple from the table beside him and began biting into it. He had hoped to witness some drama with Constantine at the heart of it. Unexpectedly, Lucifer took a few deep breaths and said, "We'll settle this when you die."
Constantine, on the other hand, pushed his luck. He exhaled deeply, smiled, walked up to Lucifer, patted his arm, then turned to Shiller and asked, "So you two know each other? That's news to me."
His tone was sarcastic and weird. Just as he finished speaking, an apple came flying at him. After dodging it, Constantine said, "I knew it, you two…"
Before Lucifer could say anything, Shiller interrupted, "I just got badly injured. The doctor said my brain endured a heavy blow, so I have amnesia."
"You're not serious, are you?" Lucifer, crossing his arms, stood by the bed, looking Shiller up and down, "I must warn you, trying to escape debts in this way is not going to work. Get up and start working. You have been off the-duty of debt repaying for quite a while!"
"I already told you I have amnesia, shouldn't you first tell me what debt do I owe you?" Seizing this opportunity, Shiller could finally ask others about his past with valid reasons.
The lineage of the original Shiller was wrapped in mystery. Many times, Shiller had to glean what his past was like from bits and pieces of others' remarks. The memories of his past were extremely vague in his mind. He knew the general experience but couldn't remember the details.
For instance, he knew that he and Brand were old classmates who enjoyed a good relationship when they were in college. However, he had no idea that Brand was aware of his history with the KGB.
In theory, anyone who knew a secret of this caliber would be considered a bosom friend. However, without any detailed memories about Brand, Shiller was clueless as to how his relationship with the original Shiller had developed to such an extent.
From the information he had so far, the original Shiller seemed to have joined the KGB. However, he somehow lost contact with the KGB later on and apparently had defected from the organization.
But, now that Lucifer was here, it seemed that the original Shiller not only had been a communist warrior but had also had some connections with the mystic world. This was quite unusual.
As for Lucifer, many people had heard of him without needing any introduction. He appeared in many mythical stories and screen productions, most of which portrayed him as a "fallen angel".
Lucifer Morningstar was once God's most beloved son. However, one day, he betrayed God, fell from Heaven into Hell, and subsequently became the king of hell. This is Lucifer's background story in the DC Universe. It is similar to the mythology with minor differences. However, there's one more thing about Lucifer that sets him apart from the others: DC's "second-in-command".
In DC, God is significant, the origin, and the end of all things, the strongest existence in all universes featured by the comics.
The title "second to one" that Lucifer holds implies that he is the second most powerful figure in the DC Universe, only after God.
Describing how strong he is, is quite tricky. However, being omnipotent is just the most basic of his capabilities. In the comics, he has created an independent cosmos competing with God. Hence, he has the power of creation, which, along with his other strengths, warrants his position as the second most powerful character.
Surprisingly Shiller noticed that the original Shiller seemed to be well acquainted with this fallen angel. Could it be that he was dabbling in liberation theology?
Materialism and idealism, both in full force. What was he trying to do?
"Perfect, I am very curious about how you two got to know each other, please share," remarked Constantine as he pulled up a chair beside Shiller, crossed his legs, nonchalantly took an apple from the table, and started eating. It looked like he had made up his mind not to leave until he heard the full story.
Lucifer also seemed to be in the mood for storytelling. He too pulled up a chair and sat down. Leaning back on the chair, he said, "The story is actually simple. It all goes back to when I first started traveling around the world."
"As you all know, I run a bar on the West Coast which does pretty good business. But it gets boring to always be there running the shop. Therefore, during off-peak season, I would travel to other countries and cities."
Shiller observed Lucifer and found that this fallen angel, who existed in legends, appeared to be too human-like. His every move and the way he spoke was just like those from the West Coast, lacking any resemblance to a deity whatsoever.
