Sico stopped in his tracks, just out of sight of the soldiers inside. He recognized the voices—Sergeant Harris and Corporal Lane, two seasoned Minutemen who had been with him since the early days. They were good men, loyal and dependable, but their words cut through Sico like a knife. It wasn't just the criticism; it was the truth in their concerns that hit him the hardest.

"We're soldiers, not miracle workers," Harris continued, his voice heavy with fatigue. "We can't be everywhere at once. And what happens if we're attacked here? If we lose the Plaza, we lose everything. All the work we've done, all the lives we've saved—it'll all be for nothing."

There was a pause, and then Lane spoke again, quieter this time. "You think the General doesn't see that? I mean, he's out there with us, fighting the same battles. He's not just sitting behind a desk, giving orders."

Cait, ever the fighter, frowned slightly, her arms crossed. "I get that, but pulling back feels like giving up. If we start retreating now, what's to stop the Raiders or Super Mutants from pushing in harder? We need to keep the pressure on, show them we're not afraid to fight back."

MacCready, who had a knack for seeing the bigger picture, chimed in. "Cait's got a point, but so do the others. We need to be strategic, not just in where we fight, but in how we fight. Maybe it's time to start looking at other ways to bolster our defenses—fortifications, traps, something that lets us hold the line with fewer people. And we need to keep up our supply lines. Without ammo and food, none of this matters."

Robert, who had been quiet until now, spoke up with a thoughtful expression. "What if we enlist the help of the settlements we've already secured? Train them to defend themselves better, maybe even contribute to our patrols. We'll pull back from areas that are less critical, but we won't abandon them completely. We'll maintain a presence, but it'll be more about monitoring and quick response if needed."

"Second," Sico continued, "we'll start working with the settlements to improve their defenses. We'll train them, supply them with the resources they need, and in return, they'll help us with patrols and intelligence. It'll take some of the weight off our shoulders and give the people a greater sense of ownership in this fight."

"And third," he concluded, "we'll look at ways to fortify our positions. I want proposals on how we can better defend our key locations with the resources we have. That includes fortifications, traps, and anything else that can give us an edge. We'll also review our supply lines to make sure we're not overextending them."

He looked around the table, meeting each of their gazes. "This won't be easy, but I know we can do it. We've faced worse before, and we've come out stronger every time. We're in this together, and together, we'll find a way to protect the Commonwealth."

There was a murmur of agreement around the table, the tension beginning to ease as a plan took shape. Sico could see the resolve in their faces, the determination that had kept the Minutemen going through countless challenges.

"Let's get to work," Sico said, standing up. "We've got a lot to do, and not a lot of time to do it."

As the group began to disperse, each heading off to tackle their respective tasks, Sico felt a renewed sense of purpose.
