Emily's POV
The victory in the art competition brought a renewed sense of purpose to my life. The $10,000 prize provided a financial boost that allowed me to not only invest in better art supplies but also save for the future.
I started creating a new series of artworks, each a reflection of the emotions and experiences that had made me who I am today. The city then became a source of inspiration. My art served as a result of resilience, determination, and hard work through the challenges life threw at me.
As my artistic portfolio grew, I sought opportunities to meet with various artists and exhibit my work. The city's art scene welcomed me with open arms, and I was surrounded by a community of individuals who shared with me their interests, passions, and goals. I had found new friends, and I wasn't lonely anymore; I was surrounded by what I love doing best.
I thought about going back to Boston with this prize money to complete my education and have a degree that I can use to seek good-paying jobs. I always wanted to complete my education to be able to stay in places with educated people. I had an opportunity now to reclaim what I had left behind. I fueled my determination with the memories of the town I cherished dearly.
When I enrolled at the university, I was very eager to resume my education in art. It was a very challenging journey because I had been out of school for years now, and I had to get that flare back. It was also difficult to juggle school and work together. But I was determined to pull through it, and I was driven by the knowledge that finally I was going to be able to fulfill my dreams. The city provided the perfect backdrop for my educational pursuits.
As I neared the completion of my degree, I began to consider my future in the art world. I thought about James every day I was in Boston, and I couldn't help but wonder if our paths would cross at least once more. The ache of our unresolved story remained a testament to the true friendship we once had.
With my education now complete, I set out to find a job in the art industry. It was a very competitive field. But I was armed with the knowledge, passion, and awards that would fuel my journey and give me the confidence booster I needed. I applied for a position at the prestigious art gallery in the heart of the city.
I had applied, and now I was waiting for a call from one of the various companies I applied for. I prayed day and night for it, and it seemed all hope was lost. I began to draw myself back because I felt I had lost the opportunities, and I felt maybe this life wasn't meant for me.
To my surprise, I received a call from a company requesting an interview. I was so excited; I eagerly prepared for it, and I looked for the best clothes I could find. I did my hair and my nails because this was an interview different from the other interviews I had attended, which were for waiters, and so I knew I had to look my best because other people could be selected.
As I walked into the calm and beautiful art gallery, I walked around and saw various artworks. I moved closer and saw very familiar artwork. I immediately recognized it; it was the artwork that I created with James. Tears rolled out of my eyes as I saw it, and I was going to use it to my advantage during the interview.
I asked for directions to the waiting room, and I sat there, tensed up, waiting to hear my name. My turn soon arrived, and I heard Emily. I quickly got up and entered the room. I stood there in shock, and my heart stopped beating. There before me stood James!
