The Beginning

A/N: This is the reworked version of the previous story with some improvements to the grammar and story overall. The story will follow the same path as the original only with a few changes here and there and this time I plan to continue the story.

The last memory Maximus had before waking up under a tree was of his private jet losing both engines and crashing into the Atlantic Ocean. He expected to wake up in a hospital or amidst a rescue scene, but instead found himself in a dark abyss for an unknown amount of time before awakening to his current situation.

His mind was too preoccupied with trying to understand his current predicament that he didn't even notice the person standing in front of him. The person patiently waited for him to finally realize their presence before they began to explain what was happening.

After a few seconds he finally noticed the person and took a defensive stance.

The person smirked seeing his actions before they started to speak "As amusing as it would be to see you try and fight me, I must warn you that I am a Goddess, and I am only here to explain things to you" Said the Goddess.

Maximus stared at the Goddess in front, not sure how to respond to what she just said.

The Goddess began, reading his thoughts: "I know what you're thinking. There's no way this could be happening to me."

"Interesting" said Maximus as this situation was growing more and more peculiar by the minute. He felt dizzy, his head spinning like a carousel out of control.

"Oh, you can't fathom it, can you?" The Goddess teased, leaning against the tree casually without breaking eye contact with him.

The sound of her laughter echoed in the stillness, making Maximus feel more wary. "Where am I? What is this place?" He asked, glancing around at the infinite darkness that seemed to stretch on forever.

A soft smile played on the Goddess's lips as she replied, "You are in a realm beyond the comprehension of your mortal mind. This is my world. When your plane crashed into the ocean, your soul was lost between worlds, drifting on the precipice of life and death. I intercepted it, taking it into my realm."

The Goddess's words took a while to register in Maximus's mind. His eyes narrowed slightly as he mulled over what she was saying. His heart pounded in his chest like a war drum. "Why?" He finally managed to say.

"Why not?" The Goddess shrugged nonchalantly; her silver eyes gleaming under the ethereal light overhead. "Your soul is unique, Maximus. It has a spark, a vitality that intrigues me."

"But before we waste too much time let me explain what's going to happen to you" She stated.

"Obviously, you died in your old world when your plane crashed into the ocean, and now you're here because your soul is unique, and it would be a waste to leave it floating in the darkness without any purpose. So now I plan to reincarnate you into the Game of Throne world, after viewing your memories I found it to be an interesting place.

"Your previous life was also very intriguing; you were the son of the world's brightest beings and proved to be smarter than them after graduating from high school and designing the world's most powerful weapon. And by the age of 25, you mastered many skills and weapons, basically turning yourself into a demon amongst mortals. So rather than letting your soul waste away, I am giving you a second chance in the Game of Thrones world." Explained the Goddess.

While the Game of Thrones world wasn't exactly the best world as it was filled with dangers, he couldn't complain about wanting a second chance at life. Plus, despite the danger, Game of Thrones was filled with a lot of interesting things that he could explore and interesting things that he could achieve.

"No need to thank me," said the goddess in a teasing tone. "Just remember, in this new world you are not Maximus, the son of the world's brightest beings. You are no longer a demon among mortals. You are an ordinary man faced with extraordinary circumstances." Said the goddess as her body started to vanish right in front of Maximus.

"It appears my time is up, but you already have something to guide you in this world. You will receive it once you leave this realm. I wish you the best of luck on your journey and can't wait to see what sort of things you will do" said the Goddess as she finally vanished.

Once she was gone, the view around him was replaced with reality as the wind blew across his face. A few moments later he heard a robotic voice in his head.

[System initialization with host 20 percent… 40 percent… 60 percent… 80 percent… 100 percent complete]

[Greetings, Maximus, I am the Kingdom-building system, assigned to you by the Goddess to assist you on your path across this realm.]

Maximus recalled this exact scene from one of the fanfics that he had read in his previous life, but now instead of reading about it he was in it.

"So, what exactly are your abilities?" asked Maximus.

[I have the ability to give you missions that will earn you system points when completed. These points can be used in the shop to buy skills, soldiers, animals, structures, technology, equipment, and more.]

[Depending on the type of soldier summoned from the system, they can be customized. All summons will be things from fiction or mythology from your previous world, and any summons must have their equipment purchased separately. Any person called from the system will be loyal to you, but bear in mind that they are not robots and have feelings and emotions of their own, and if they continue to be dissatisfied then they may turn on you.]

[I will keep track of how loyal or disloyal someone is and inform the host should the need arise.]

[Missions will range from annihilating opponents to capturing kingdoms or villages among other things.]

[Each mission will have a reward if completed and a penalty if failed, so keep in mind to complete the missions given to you especially if they have a time limit.]

[Now before you begin on your journey, there has been a gift left by the Goddess which will provide you some initial help in your journey.]

As the system said this, in front of Maximus appeared a simple prompt on a screen with the two choices 'Yes' or 'No'.

Naturally he hit yes, who in their right mind would deny free rewards after being left alone in the middle of nowhere within the game of thrones world.

[Start pack accepted, distributing rewards now]

Rewards:

-6x Roman Praetorian Guard

-10,000 System points

"Praetorian Guards!" Maximus said out loud. The Praetorian Guard was renowned as the most elite military unit within the Roman Empire. If this was any indication of the sort of people that he would be serving him, then he had every reason to be excited about what the future held.

"How do I summon them?" Asked Maximus.

[You just have to will it with your mind, try focusing on where you want to summon them and see what happens]

Following what the system said Maximus focused his mind on summoning the Praetorian Guards before him. A warm, electric sensation rolled up from his chest to his head as he concentrated on the image of the Roman soldiers.

Suddenly, a silver light emanated from his hands and before he knew it, in front of him stood 6 Roman soldiers dressed in the armor of Praetorian Guards. They wore their typical black armor with their purple cape and large black shield with engravings on it.

The soldiers had all kneeled in front of Maximus as they swore their allegiance "My Lord, we are yours to command" shouted the Roman soldier in front as they all kneeled and planted their swords in the ground.

"Rise," Maximus said. The men rose to their feet sheathing their swords as their armor clinked as they moved. "Right now, we don't know much about our current situation, so I want two of you to scout the area while the rest remain here while I figure things out"

Two of the Praetorian Guards stepped forward and bowed before they walked off to scout the area. The remaining 4 Praetorian Guards remained at Maximus's side while he explored the system.

He wanted to find something to wear as what he was in right now was a suit which is not ideal for his current situation. He needed proper medieval armor to protect himself in this new world. Luckily his suit was made to be flexible thanks to its custom design so he could move any way he wanted without worrying about it ripping.

As he browsed the armor section of the system store, he spotted a small chest plate armor that he could equip on his chest as well as a long black coat to cover himself as it was quite chilly. He brought both items and equipped them which cost 150 system points.

He then browsed the weapons section as he would need something to protect himself. He didn't have any weapons on him, and he would need it if he wanted to survive in this new world even if he didn't know how to use it. He had chosen a simple longsword that he would carry for now until he needed a new one or wanted a new one.

Maximus now has 9,550 system points left after purchasing the sword for 300 system points. Next Maximus looked at the Army section of the system, as he looked through it, he found some interesting armies that he could summon from fantasy worlds like, Lord of the Rings, Warhammer, Total war armies, and so on.

One unit that caught his attention from the Lord of the Rings section was the Gondar infantry, which cost 10 system points per soldier but an additional 40 system points to buy the equipment. This brought the total cost to buy and equip a single Gondor Infantry to 50 system points.

This price wasn't bad, considering the number of points he had, but he also needed to think about supplied and such as they currently had none and summoning more soldiers wouldn't help the matter, so he browsed the supply section of the system. He saw supplies ranging from 200 system points to 10,000 system points, which he assumed must be enough to supply hundreds of thousands of soldiers or even an entire city.

As Maximus was browsing the system store, a warning message from the system popped up.

[Please keep in mind that there are more dangers in this world than you know about. Magic exists and so do Magic users, powerful entities exist who conduct their activities from the shadows, and so on. To name all the dangers would take too long so I will simply give this warning now and explain the danger as you encounter it]

'By the way, system, when and where was I put in the world?' Maximus inquired.

[You have been placed 5 years before Aerys II Targaryen was slain, and you are situated between the Forest of Qohor and Vaes Dothrak]

Maximus remembers the Dothraki as a fearless nomadic race that is very brutal to everybody, and they practice slavery.

"The Forest of Qohor and Vaes Dothrak," he murmured to himself. He knew these two places well and they were not a good place to be right now especially considering the threat of the Dothraki.

Looking through the system shop, Maximus found a map of Essos that he could use to show his current location, as well as cities, towns, villages, and ruins in Essos. Once he bought it, he brought the map out of his inventory by choosing in the inventory tab of the system which made the map appear in his hands rolled up.

Maximus unrolled the map, and he could see the entirety of Essos and all the Free cities, Slavers Bay, and his own location including 4 blue dots around him which he presumed to be his men. He then clicked on the closest city from his current location, which turned out to be Qohor.

He wanted to get as far away from the Dothraki lands as he didn't have the means to beat a Dothraki Horde right now. But he would keep the idea of fighting them in the back of his mind as he could fight and defeat their Khal and then take in all the slaves that they had, which would allow him to establish a city with the freed people and utilize them for his goals and plans. Now that he was here in this world he wasn't just going to sit back and relax, he had come from a life of luxury from the modern world, nothing would bring back that level of luxury, but he could still live in what this world considered luxury while having fun at the same time.

After waiting for about half an hour, the scouts had returned from surveying the surrounding area. They had found nothing from their scouting which was good. After they briefed him on their findings and what not, Maximus bought 6 horses from the system shop so that his men could ride it.

He only brought 6 because he himself didn't know how to ride one, so he would ride with somebody else until he learned how.

After everybody was mounted up, he ventured on to Qohor to see how great the city was compared to what he read about in books.
