TTW Chapter 69: A Novelist

Three days later, in an underground laboratory in District 20, a secret facility funded by Lin Yi, a powerful figure in the district, something important was happening. Lin Yi had managed to keep his actions hidden with the help of Kurona and Nashiro, two wealthy sisters who provided him with money. These sisters were among the richest people in Tokyo.

Nishino, who had taken a break from her work in District 20, returned after a few days and met up with Lin Yi. As soon as they saw each other, Nishino rushed into Lin Yi's arms, seeking comfort.

"Don't worry, we'll have plenty of time together from now on," Lin Yi reassured Nishino. Despite looking mature, she was actually a young girl who had recently graduated from college.

"Okay," Nishino replied, holding onto him for a while before letting go.

Lin Yi took Nishino into the laboratory, which had top-quality equipment and highly skilled staff. The laboratory was made possible by the wealthy sisters' parents, who had conducted secret experiments on Ghouls before they died. Lin Yi had managed to acquire everything with the help of the sisters.

As they walked through the laboratory, Lin Yi showed Nishino around and eventually brought her to a room with a large glass wall. The glass was see-through from the inside but not from the outside.

Inside the room, there was a person sitting alone—a figure with white hair and a cold expression. It was Kaneki, who had arrived as planned.

"You're really dependable, Kaneki," Lin Yi calmly spoke into a microphone that transmitted his words into the room.

Kaneki sat with his head down on a chair.

"I'm already dying. Can you at least tell me why it had to be me?" Kaneki asked, his voice filled with despair.

Lin Yi didn't refuse or agree. Instead, he started telling Kaneki about the Washuu Clan, the V Organization, and everything related to them.

"You're an unlucky person. Originally, they were interested in Rize Kamishiro, not you. But you were chosen as a replacement," Lin Yi explained. "However, your actions made them see potential in you."

"Potential..." Kaneki bitterly smiled. He had lived for almost twenty years, enduring a miserable life and being ordinary in every way, even in school. Why did he have to face all of this?

"Rize had unique traits, and you gave those traits endless possibilities, Kaneki," Lin Yi said. "Nishino has found a way to create food for Ghouls. Maybe you can help her find answers."

Lin Yi revealed that with Nishino's help and his own assistance, they had made great progress in creating artificial food for Ghouls. But Lin Yi felt that time was running out and they couldn't wait too long.

"Is that so? I really hope to see that day for myself," Kaneki murmured, raising his head and looking at the pale ceiling. His hair gradually turned from white to black.

Lin Yi handed Nishino a suitcase containing Jörmungandr. It was now up to her to take charge.

"Nishino, it's up to you now," Lin Yi said, and Nishino nodded and took the suitcase.

Once all the experiments and research were finished, Nishino would assist Lin Yi in the final upgrade of Jörmungandr.

After giving some more instructions, Lin Yi decided to leave. He didn't need to interfere anymore.

During this time, the CCG closely monitored the Anteiku shop. They had investigators disguised as pedestrians patrolling the area, but they didn't pay attention to the secret transport of people from the shop. These were just a few young Ghouls who didn't pose a significant threat. It wasn't worth provoking them yet.

As long as that person stayed inside, the plan would go smoothly.

Back at the District 20 branch, Lin Yi's assistant, Ashikaga, informed him about an interview request they had received.

"Investigator Lin, this interview is important nationwide, and it's been approved by headquarters. We can't refuse," Ashikaga explained hesitantly, following Lin Yi.

"What are you talking about? Don't you see the timing?" Lin Yi replied, already famous enough. The public might not know about CCG's Kishou Arima, but they definitely knew about Lin Yi. Engaging in time-consuming and tedious activities didn't interest him, so he quickly declined the interview.

"No, Investigator Lin," Ashikaga persisted. "They... they have a famous novelist accompanying them to observe, and refusing might have negative consequences."

"A novelist?" Lin Yi was momentarily surprised but then smiled knowingly. It seemed they couldn't resist coming to him, treating his branch like a common meeting place.

Ashikaga, confused by Lin Yi's sudden change in expression, nervously stood there.

"Well... Investigator Lin? Should we refuse them?"

"Let them come. I'll be waiting for them in my office," Lin Yi replied with a smile.

It didn't take long for Ashikaga to bring the visitors to Lin Yi's office. Three people stood outside—two chief editors and owners of renowned news agencies, accompanied by a young girl.
