"She kept insisting that the gun was empty," Lauren's voice came through.
He studied her closely. "Why are you bringing this up?"
"What I mean is, I want to hear your own opinion. Do you believe she's saying the truth? We were all asked to be silent on the matter when you lost your memory, but since you now remember everything, I think we should deal with this alongside Dolly's."
Steffan let out a deep breath and leaned back into his chair. "I've known Benita's character since we were young and she isn't capable of taking someone's life," Steffan said.
"You could have also said the same about Dolly a few months back," Lauren reminded a little too sharply. "So I can't rely on that and say you might be right when it comes to being a good judge of character."
Was Steffan defending Benita? Will he go against everyone and ask them to drop the case because he feels she wasn't capable of hurting a fly? If that were the case, she'd be truly disappointed.
