Chapter 13

Davien's P. O. V

"Alpha Davien, it's been a while, good to see you in good shape."

I looked over my shoulder, to see Alpha Theo, holding two glasses of red wine, he offered one to me, which I gladly accepted.

"Davien is just fine." I said back, taking a good look at the first person who supported my rise to Alpha. He was about the age of my father, and still hadn't chosen his next successor.

He smiled, "I'm surprised you could make it, considering…" he left his statement hanging, letting his silence imply the elephant in the room.

My eyes darted to Silvia, who was squatted in the middle of some young kids, singing a song with them. I hadn't the faintest clue that she was invited for this as well.

"What is your father saying about the whole issue?" Theo asked, I tightly clutched onto the glass, more than anything, I didn't want to talk about him.

"As a pack, we're weighing our options and considering the best solution." I candidly responded.

"What's there to consider? Silvia is an Alpha? Isn't that runt just some nobody Omega? You should've rejected him in a heartbeat." He raised a voice a bit, drawing some unneeded attention.

I pushed the glass to my lips, knowing fully well that he was right in every possible way. "Time will tell." I managed to respond, I didn't come to make enemies, and picking a fight with Theo because of that pup was out of the question.

Fortunately, before he could respond, a red hair no older than Silvia mounted the podium, and tapped on the microphone.

"Welcome everyone to this year's mentorship seminar, we're glad to see so many prominent Alphas, Betas and Gammas present. We hope that this year will be as memorable as every other year." She took a pause, and for a split second, I noticed her gaze settle on me.

It could've just been my imagination, but I noticed a bit of sadness linger in her eyes.

What the hell? Did I know her? I think not.

"So, on behalf on the Silvertail pack, I welcome you all!" A round of applause followed her words, I watched with curious eyes as she dismounted the podium.

"That's Carol Silvertail, the only granddaughter of Isaac Silvertail." Theo said from beside me.

"Oh?" So she was his direct relative, that was why she opened the ceremony.

"It's a pity though, she had so much promise in her younger years." Theo went on to say, igniting my curiosity.

"Pity? Did something happen?"

He nodded, "She lost her wolf."

Losing a wolf was like the end of the world for a shifter. I couldn't imagine living without Ralph, just watching Carol made me admire the woman's tenacity.

Of course I wanted to know why she lost her wolf, but I knew better than to pry in someone else's trauma.

"Earth to Davien! Hello?!"

I blinked twice and looked behind me, my chest tightened, standing behind me in a light blue dress was none other than Silvia Saint. She had the same enchanting smile on her face, the same one she had on the night of our engagement. The same engagement which was called off because of her brother.

Oh fucking great! Now everyone had their attention to us, there was no escaping her.

"Sorry, I was thinking about something else so I didn't notice you."

"It's fine, anyone in your position would be a little…overwhelmed." She answered, then sat down, she slapped the chair next to her twice, wearing a faint smile.

"Let's have a little chat."

I took her offer and sat next to her, compared to kian's tensed and hard to breathe around Aura. Silvia's light and pleasant to be around.

"So, what have you been up to?" She asked with her hands resting on her laps, we were at recess, so the kids were outside playing.

Most of the guests were in the lounge area, so the hall was mainly empty.

"Just taking care of business." By business, I meant business with her brother, but she didn't need to know that.

"What about you? The pressure on your end must be intense." I returned the focus to her, certain that she might've gotten an earful from her pack elders.

She crossed one leg over the other and reclined her back, "Do you want the truth or the planned response?" She shrugged.

"The truth preferably."

Her lips parted in a sigh, "It's been one thing after the other. Everyone is torn between either feeling sorry for me, or being angry at Kian. For our parents it's a mix of both."

So the rumours of the strained relationship between that pup and his parents were true.

"And you?"

She cocked a brow, "What about me?" She asked with genuine confusion, as though I was the first one to ask about her stand on the issue.

"Are you okay? It must've come as a shock that your finance was mated to your younger brother." I said with serious eyes, laying everything out in the open. I figured the longer we put on airs about it, the more of a problem it would be.

Silvia just had to give the word, she just needed to say that she wasn't okay with it, and I would reject him without thinking twice.

She looked at me critically for some seconds, then chuckled lightly, "Sorry…it's just, I didn't peg you to be a serious natured person. Considering your playboy reputation, you're quite different than I imagined. You're more considerate than I thought you'd be."

I laughed, "Those are nothing but rumours, sure I've been with a few women…"

"Just a few?" She raised a brow interrupting, an all knowing look etched on her face.

I rolled my eyes, "a good number." I corrected, she smiled in satisfaction, going on, I said, "But that doesn't mean I don't look after the people I care about."

She nodded, pleased by my response. "Well, if I'm being honest with you, I was a bit stunned when I discovered you both were mates. A part of me was heartbroken, that my kid brother was luckier than I was and found his partner,"

I noticed her bright eyes turn sad for a brief moment, however, she quickly recovered, returning her blinding smile.

"But when I thought it through, I was really happy that Kian won't have to feel alone again. So if you want to know what I think, I think you two would make a good pairing." Silvia announced, telling her fiance to get together with her brother.

"You sure about that?"

"Of course! Me going ahead with the marriage despite knowing you were my brother's mate, would be foolish. I want Kian to have all the happiness in the world. Because, he's my sweet little brother." Silvia explained, with nothing but adoration in her eyes.

I felt my heart twinge.

Wasn't Kian the same person who wanted to run Silvia out of Saint Incorporations? And wanted her demoted from Alpha? That kid had nothing but bad intentions for her, how could two siblings be so different?

And I was an even bigger jerk, for sitting here and listening, knowing all about it.

"But," she sternly inserted, pointing a finger to me. "If you ever break my little brother's heart, I promise to run you and your company to the ground!" Silvia threatened, narrowing her blue eyes at me.

I parted my lips in response to say something, but the scene that happened in front of us, stole both our attention.

"I said lick my shoes!" A boy no older than fourteen demanded in an angry tone. He held the back of another boy's head, pulling hard on his locks of black hair.

Judging by the scent, the taller and stronger looking blonde boy was an alpha, and the one being bullied was most definitely an omega.

A weak one might I add.

"Didn't you hear him? You stepped on his shoe, so clean it!" One of the other children claimed.

"Don't you know it's worth more than your pitiful life?" Another taunted, standing at the right side of the bully.

I noticed Silvia clench her jaw, she was angry, and so was I. This was no way for kids to be behaving.

"I didn't step on you, and even if I did, I wouldn't lick your shoe clean, you damn masochist!" The omega spat out with venom in his words.

Before anyone could think, the blonde soon to be alpha raised his hand and punched the other kid square in the face.

"Stupid omega! Don't you get how things work? Alphas are at the top of the hierarchy, didn't you learn that already? You omegas should be grateful we offer you protection." He pushed the kid down and stepped on his back, crushing his stomach against the floor.

"My father says, that you omegas are a stain in the history of our kind. And once I become Alpha, I'll make sure all the omegas in my pack know their limits!" The kid announced, adding more force to his leg.

Silvia stood up with curled fists, the angry look in her eyes gave away her intentions, and damn was I glad we were on the same page here.

"Cut the shit! Now!" I hardened my voice, marching furiously towards them, Silvia pushed her hips from side to side, and cracked her fingers, just etching to punch them.

The kids shrank back in fright, though they were all of high blood, when faced with two fully grown Alphas, their knees couldn't help but buckle.

"He-He started it!" The blonde one accused, stepping away from the omega.

"Damn right he did! I already saw it all, so drop the act and apologize." I told him, watching as Silvia helped the boy off the floor.

The kid snorted, "Me? Apologize to him? Not a chance! He's just the son of a servant in our packhouse, so why should I?"

With added confidence, another one of his friends talked back, "Leo isn't at fault, it's that damn Ivan! For being born so useless and spineless!"

The others joined in support, Silvia covered Ivan's ears, so he wouldn't hear what they said.

"Right, the strong can do whatever they want to the weak, that's what father said, and he's the strongest Alpha there is!" He spat out, a haughty air hanging around him.

Damn, this kid was thick skulled, just what sort of upbringing did he have to have, to get off thinking that way.

"That's bullshit! Who the hell is your father?" I asked.

The kid raised his nose and announced, "Ever heard of Alpha Renold?"
