I'd know the truth the moment I walked through the door with my parents. Lex was my mate. That's why I'd felt like things were wrong all day. He'd hidden his scent, so my wolf hadn't been able to tell me definitively, but she still knew it deep down. And she was worried about him. She was scared that something had happened to him, just the same as I was.

And when I'd arrived here, and knew that he had smelled me, knew the truth before he left, it hurt. It was the sort of rejection I never thought I would get from my mate, and especially not from Lex. In a way, I've always loved Lex. Not romantically, but still, I've loved him for a long time.
