Chapter 18: More smarter

"What I should be focusing on is killing that rabbit."

But that was not due to revenge or anger, because it had killed one of his goblins. He was more interested in acquiring its corpse than in vengeance. Although the child was not well versed in genetics, the full corpse of another species would be of great use. From it, he can acquire not only the structural advantages but some chemical and organic references as well.

From the rabbit, the child is interested in finding out how its structural body is positioned. The rabbit was able to ram the goblins as though it were an actual ram. One must know that an attack like that not only inflicts great damage on its enemy but on the user as well. So how was the rabbit able to tackle such an intense shock? Plus, the rabbit has fur. Which is something the child currently cannot create. This was why the goblins, from head to toe, were bald. This may not seem like a problem, but what if one day he were to open a portal in an ice-cold world? The defenseless goblins would likely freeze to death in one step. Would he then not send any goblins out? It would be better if he could get references so he could improve the goblins. This way, he could improve their survivability and their strength.

True, because the rabbit and most living beings in this world are genetic, what he could reference from them is a bit limited, but some parts could still be taken and recreated. The horns on the rabbit could be a good example.

"Although they would be useless since goblins aren't made to have horns, nor do they have the right body to use them."

Either way, getting a rabbit would be better than not. So the child decided to have a few killed. But there was only one problem...

"How do I kill it?"

With its speed, the rabbit could dodge and attack at any time. In the battle that occurred a few hours ago, the rabbit was only hit twice. The first was on the horn by the goblin, and the second was on the ear by another goblin. From this, the child could assess the disadvantages the rabbit had.

Firstly, the rabbit has too few attack methods. The mean is somewhat predictable in what it'll do. Secondly, the rabbit can get distracted upon landing a hit. Which leaves a chance for it to be decapitated immediately. Thirdly, although the rabbit was able to maneuver its way around an enemy, that's best only for a single enemy. Once there are too many hostiles, its speed can cause its own death. That was why an attack almost landed on its head at the last moment.

The best thing the rabbit has above all else is its reaction speed. Which is hard to counter unless he surrounds it with a lot of goblins and attacks it.

"So how do I deal with its reaction speed? A sneak attack should be hard due to those sensitive ears it has."

It was at that moment that the child sensed something new happening to the left-over scout teams. The two goblins walked through the misty forest with weapons in hand. One of the goblins was holding a fruit the child had ordered to ring back.

The two were on their way back to the portal. Since the sun was setting and the child saw no reason for the goblins, who can't see without light, to scout in the dark, So he ordered them to come back.

Everything was going well, but suddenly, one of the goblins felt his feet step onto a squishy branch. But it seemed that this was no branch, as a hissing sound was soon heard and the goblin felt something prick its feet.

Almost instantly, the goblin screamed in agony. Clearly, it was in great pain. It fell to the ground and clutched its leg. Its teammate, on the other hand, received an order. So without wasting time, it slashed down at the attacker. This creature was not the rabbit and did not manage to escape the slash. Its body was cut in two, and it started writhing on the ground. The child was then able to see it clearly.

It was a snake. It had brown skin with black stripes over its body.

Seeing this, the child ordered the goblin to finish it off. So the goblin hacked at its head.

bam!

The snake was dead.

The goblin, still standing, turned to see its teammate. Which was now on the floor with its arms clutching its legs. The bitten part of the leg was turning dark and swollen. Which was a clear indication of venom taking effect.

Without any knowledge of the snake that had bitten the goblin, the child did not have any methods he could order the other goblin to use in order to help its teammate.

So the best he could do to help it at that moment was to call in reinforcements. Since the child always likes to keep the goblins close to each other, the other team of goblins came quickly. With the help of the other team, the bitten goblin was carried towards the portal.

Throughout the journey, the goblin screamed as hard as it could. The child Eveb had to order one of the goblins to stuff something in its mouth, lest it attract some unwanted attention.

Luckily, though, the poor goblin survived. Before the sun set, it and the few other goblins came to be portals. The goblin was then thrown onto the dungeon core. With timely help, the poison was directly taken out of its leg and all parts of its body that it spread to. It was thus able to survive and not die.

In the end, the goblin walked out with a perfectly healthy body, like nothing happened. Well, if you exclude the horrifying and likely scarring experience,

The child sighed.

"Are these goblins only born to die?"

The child did not say this for any reason. As of just today, he had already saved more than five goblins from death. It was not just the two that got rammed by a rabbit or the one that got bitten by a venomous snake, but more goblins shaved off death that day. There was one team of goblins that had gone too close to a river. If it were not for the child noticing in time, the goblins would have been eaten by whatever was inside the river. There was also another goblin that tried to eat a glowing mushroom on the ground.

"Ignorance and stupidity are one chemical reaction, aren't they?"

The child sighed once more. With how things are going, the goblins won't be protecting him, but it would be him protecting them. This did not go well with the child, as the goblins would then defeat their intended purpose.

"Then how do I make them both smarter and more experienced at the same time?"

The child thought And the more he thought, the more ideas came to mind.

"Maybe it's time I continued my goblin improvement plan."

He has already scouted the area with the goblins. The area is somewhat safe, and few creatures are likely to attack. With a source of third-order energy, what's stopping him?

So the child once again projected the goblin core into his own core.
