Ch. 10 Part 2

Yu ger quickly ran into the house and headed straight for the room as if escaping from a predator, "ha ha ha" he blushed embarrassedly hearing lin yu'an's laugh. lin yu'an walked into the house with the kids after seeing yu ger's moments of escaping from his clutches, he was about to close the door when he heard the galloping of horses. he looked where the sound came from and he saw a carriage being pulled by four horses and was coming towards him, he frowned 'another one' he thought with displeasure.

the horse carriage came to a stop and a young man who looking younger than himself now, came down from the carriage and took hurried steps to him. the young man saluted "this brother i'm here to find doctor lin, could you tell me where his house is?" the young man asked politely "what do you have you have to do with me?" the young man looked at lin yu'an confused after hearing his question. "you're doctor lin?" the young man asked in doubt. "tsk" lin yu'an clicked his tongue looking impatient "return back if you're here to waste my time!" lin yu'an said coldly. seeing that he was getting impatient the young man said hurriedly "doctor lin please let me call my master" he quickly run back to the carriage, after waiting for about a minute lin yu'an saw two more people step down from the carriage and made their way gracefully towards him.

one was an oldman looking like he was in his 60s and the other a man in his early 30s. "you're doctor lin?" the oldman asked with doubts visible on his old and wrinkle face as they were about three feet away from the door. "and who's asking?" he return back with a question. "insolence! answer my father's question" the man said in an ordering tone making lin yu'an sneered 'nobles' a thought ran in his mind. he knew that in this era the peasants have to bow and salute in every turn when in the presence of nobles, scholars and officials. lin yu'an find it really annoying and infuriating because in his past life he was on the receiving side and even the president, ministers and the wealthy families would flatter him at every turn just to have him as their doctor.

and looking at the people in front of him now, it was the same for them. they came to request of him to treat someone, so to him they better humble themselves if they want him to do them the favor. "you!... " the old man gave the man a stern warning look, the man looked like he wanted to say more but seeing that his father wasn't in approval of his words he swallowed back his words and turn away angrily.

" hehe... aiya~ this brother, don't take his words to heart" the old man flattered but lin yu'an still looked at him with indifference with no change in his emotions. the man sighed seeing the look on lin yu'an's face, he flicked his hand and sent both hands behind looking more graceful and serious. "this old man is named lu chan" lin yu'an arched his brows hearing the name. if he wasn't wrong the current magistrate of the county town is also surnamed lu, and the chan sounded familiar too. seeing that lin yu'an had caught on the man said again "yes... the current magistrate in the county is my first born son, lu chen. so let me ask again, is this little brother doctor lin?" he asked and lin yu'an nodded "yes... i'm doctor lin" the old man had a bright smile hearing lin yu'an's confirmation.

"do you need me for something?" lin yu'an asked "can doctor lin invite us to take a seat first" remembering that they were still in a standing state, lin yu'an opened the door and step away giving them a way in. the old man walked in with his son leaving the young man who seemed to be their servant outside with the coachman, lin yu'an offered them chairs and also took a seat. "doctor lin we came from a long way to find you for a reason.i was hoping that doctor lin could take a look at my grandson, he has been suffering from an illness which every doctor who i have invited to treat him wasn't able to tell what was wrong with my grandson. but yet still he's suffering, we didn't know who to turn to until this old man heard about you, so i was hoping you could help."

the old man said humbly with heavy tone, his voice laced with emotions. lin yu'an could tell that there was no lie in his words, but yet still he needed to take precautions because dealing with officials was a problem of its own. now for him to agree on taking a look at his grandson all depended on his behavior and answers now. "how can you tell whether i can diagnose the illness of your grandson?" he asked the old man. "doctor lin i also thought about it too but hearing of your heroic saving of a dead man i suddenly had hopes, infact like the rest of the aristocrat families in the county i didn't believe when i was told the appearance of a miracle doctor. so i had someone come to the town and ask, but when the person i sent came back with the same news i suddenly wanted to grab hold of this new light of hope. so doctor lin i plead with you please help me with my grandson." the old man said pleadingly. lin yu'an after listening to the old man was quiet as if thinking of something very important, but the truth was that he was just deciding in his mind where his mood was now and whether he was in the mood to help or reject. "where is the patient you want to take a look at?" lin yu'an ask after making his decision.

"i didn't bring him with me, actually we didn't know here to find you. the rumors were that you were in seclusion in a village,but name of the village was untold. this old man thought you were at the same age as my old self, i didn't think the miracle doctor was so young, the rumours were untold well. so we came here to search of you first." lin yu'an's eye twitched hearing the rumours made about him. "i see. tell me the condition of the patient, everything, what the patient is feeling, pains. i mean everything which seems to be wrong with him"

the old man nodded and inform lin yu'an everything his grandson was going through leaving nothing out of it, lin yu'an made analysis with what was told to him, he came up with a diagnosis in mind but to be sure he had to see and check the patient himself. "i see, so how long did all these symptoms start?" "it has been about a year or two" lin yu'an hummed, he diagnosed the old man's grandson with stage 1 stomach tumor in mind. seeing the serious look on lin yu'an's face the old man ask with heavy heart "doctor lin knows what's wrong with my grandson? doctor lin can help him right!" lin yu'an turned on his doctor expression "after analysing from your words i came up with a diagnosis and a treatment for the patient. but that is from listening to words so my diagnosis may not be accurate until i see the patient and check for myself." lin yu'an said in a professional tone.

the old man suddenly grab hold of his hand in a moment of excitement, lin yu'an calmly pulled away with discomfort. "doctor lin quickly tell me what's wrong with my grandson and how to treat him!" he said excitedly. "as i said the diagnosis may not be accurate since i haven't checked the patient for myself. but from analysing from your words i have come to diagnose the patient with stomach tumor." lin yu'an said, the old man frowned not knowing what his words meant so lin yu'an went on to explain calmly "you said your grandson keeps complaining that something is growing in his stomach right? and your grandson is a boy so we have to rule out the possibilities of him being with a child, and the symptoms you mentioned your grandson was with. analysing from all that and how long the patient had started having those symptoms, it seems to be a tumor growing up in his stomach and my guess it's a stage 1 stomach tumor."

the old man listened attentively nodding along lin yu'an's words, even the old man's son who's attention wasn't on them at first started paying attention at some point. "a stage 1 tumor can be cured if there is no major problem, that's through operation. that means i have to cut open the patient's stomach and remove the tumor..." "what insane thing are you saying! ah! i knew it, you're nothing but a quack! cut open a person's stomach, aren't just wanting to kill! father let's go from here this minute!" the old man's son stood up abruptly pointed at lin yu'an's nose saying angrily "awen seat down first and let doctor lin explain himself, don't be impulsive!" the old man warned "but father!" the old man glared and the man sat back down in anger

"doctor lin can you explain what you mean by that?" "the chances for a successful operation i can assure you is 50/50. that is if my diagnosis is accurate, but if it's not accurate i have to make another diagnosis after seeing the patient. so now it's up to the patient and the family if they want to take the risk, i as a doctor have given you the option to choose" the old man sat silently in a complicated mood, he wanted to see his grandson cured and in good health, but to have to cut open the stomach was really something he couldn't just agree to. but seeing how calm lin yu'an was as he said it, he was affected by his calmness and had a thought that lin yu'an was sure of it's success, actually lin yu'an thought there was 80 to 90 percentage of the success of the operation but he decided to lower the percentage so they think of the risk themselves and decide well.

"can doctor lin go back with us now to have a look?" the old man ask "father!" lu wen was shocked by his father's words but both his father and lin yu'an ignored him. "i'm sorry that's not possible, right now i'm taking care of a patient. i'll be able to go see the patient in about three weeks time to a month from now." lin yu'an said. "i'll look forward to doctor lin's arrival in the county" they both agreed on things before the old man walked out of the house and back to the carriage, lin yu'an locked the door and watched the carriage go. when he turned his back he saw yu ger who had come out from the room, lin yu'an walked back to take a seat. yu ger looked at him with worry in his eyes, lin yu'an could understand too. "aiya~ i didn't know that yang yu was the type who hides away in times of troubles" lin yu'an joked but yu ger took it serious not seeing the teasing look on lin yu'an's eyes. "no, that's not it, i believed brother yan could handle it. and what you were talking about, i could not offer any help in that" yu ger explained not wanting to be misunderstood. lin yu'an chuckled seeing how flustered he looked, as if he would cry if lin yu'an thought differently. "i know, yu ger isn't like that" yu ger looked at him stunned, that was the first time lin yu'an had called him intimately and that too with his tone full of doting. "en!" yu ger blushed feeling inexplicable. "but brother yu'an is it alright.... getting involved with officials?" yu ger asked worried for him. "do you not believe in my talents?" "of course i believe in brother yu'an" lin yu'an smiled "and besides it's just a doctor treating a patient, not more than that. i don't plan on keeping contact with them after treating the patient."
