CHAPTER 104
288 AC
When we entered the camp of our soldiers, we had already decided who would do what. Jory would command the city's defense, and Hallis would command the vanguard when we started the attack. I was going to lead the detachment force and attack the Ironborns from behind. Hallis had turned into a mighty warrior, and there was no trace of his old snooty demeanor. He had 8.8 str and 7.3 spd. As for Jory, he was a bit stronger than him. He had 9.2 str and 8.3 spd.
"How come you didn't want to tell Glover that you knew so much about Ironborns? Could you share it with us?" ' asked Jory.
"Rumors about this will start to spread anyway. I didn't want to say it there because I didn't trust Glover and his men. I'm a warg. I saw their forces with my own eyes."
"You mean you can control animals like the people in stories? If you don't want to say it, don't say it. Why are you making up stories."
(a deep sigh)
"Come with me. I have to show it to the guys who are going to fight with me on the morrow anyway, so you will see it too."
..............
Jory, Hallis, I, and 300 of our men went with me into the depths of the forest. When we came to a small hill, I went up there and faced all the soldiers.
"Many of you know what a warg is, and those who know will tell those who don't… I'm a warg."
When I said that, everyone started talking among themselves. I added some mana to my voice and shouted.
"SILENCE! I need to introduce you to my familiar because we're going to fight side by side on the morrow. I don't want any of you to fight timidly. I want everyone to calm down now. My familiar is a shadowcat and a little bit big. She is going to come from right behind me. Please don't be afraid. She will never attack you unless you attack her."
Just then, I heard Poe's voice.
-Daddy, some other humans are coming close to here while hiding.-
it looks like Lord Glover got curious about why 300 men left the camp.
-Can you push them back without killing them? I don't have time for them.-
-Can we play with them a bit?-
-Okay, but no killing or maiming, and don't show them your real forms.-
While I was being silent, everyone continued to wait for me, a little confused.
"Sorry, I had to do some thinking for a moment. Where was I? Oh, yes. Please don't be afraid."
Sith slowly began to appear from behind the hill, and there were many voices from the men. Some were frightened, trying to retreat, while others had drawn their swords. Sith approached me and rubbed her head against my shoulder, and began to purr in a loud voice. The purr sounded more like it was coming from the engine of a sports car than a feline.
Jory and Hallis cautiously approached us, and Jory said.
"You really are a warg."
"You think! What gave it away."
"The fact that giant shadowcat is acting like a kitty."
Hallis said:
"This thing can't be a shadowcat. It is almost as big as a horse."
-You are the thing, you idiot human. Master, can I eat him?-
"No! You cannot eat him."
Hallis suddenly jumped up in fright, using Jory as a shield. He said:
"Who is going to eat who. I wouldn't taste good. Eat him; he is all meat. I have too much fat."
Jory turned to him and bonged him in the head.
"He said it wouldn't attack if we didn't anger it. Aermir, can you understand it."
"Yes, but not like how we are talking. They can say basic things like "enemy, eat, friend, attack, defend, etc." but they can't talk like a human.
-master, why do I have to act like a dumb animal? I don't want to.-
-Sith, I told you guys before. A smart man never shows everything he can do. You have to leave an ace up your sleeve.-
then Lyka said:
-but master Sith and I don't have sleeves.-
I hold myself really hard not to laugh. My Familiars are getting smarter every day, but sometimes they have a hard time understanding the idioms.
-it is an idiom it means something to use as an advantage.-
-Yee, that makes sense.-
As I stroked Lyka and Sith's heads, Jory asked:
"Is this one a familiar too?"
"Yes, it is a juvenile wolf."
at that moment, Hallis pointed at Sith and asked.
"Is that a saddle on its back?"
"Yes, I don't use a horse. they are too slow compared to Sith."
"How fast is she?"
"Two times faster than a horse."
After a long session of interrogation, I took my men to the deep of the forest. Jory and Hallis turned back and said I left for Bear Island. The reason for this mummery was that I think there is a good chance of a traitor among Glover's retainers. At the same time, I told Poe not to allow any kind of animal to leave or enter the castle in case they try to communicate.
As I suspected, a raven was sent in the direction of the coast. We had left the castle from the northeast direction, so we marched while drawing a wide arc and ended up at the southwest edge of the forest. Poe caught the bird without hurting it.
The message was concise, talking about everything from 300 soldiers leaving to aid Bear Island and only 900 remaining, the Stark reinforcement arriving in close to a week. But there was one piece of information exposing the traitor's identity; According to the message, since he was stationed at the western gate, he said he would give the order to open the gate when the war started and lead the soldiers to attack.
After learning that a better plan was forming in my mind, we are going to use this against them. I set the raven free and put a tail on it to see where it would go. I sent Poe with a letter to Jory, telling him about the traitor but told him not to do anything about it.
