Angela moved her gaze from Nick to Aiden. She seemed to be even more surprised to see Aiden.
"Nick, we should catch up. Why don't we pick a bigger table so everyone can sit together?" Angela proposed.
Nick turned to Aiden.
"Do you mind? Otherwise, why don't we all have brunch together?"
"I don't mind," Aiden said.
It was more difficult to peel Serena off the cozy seat that she claimed with a lot of effort. She stalked unhappily to the larger seating area that Nick and Angela had picked.
"You ordered a lot of food," Nick noted. "Better get a waiter to move them to the new table."
Ms. Parsons' phone rang at that moment. She murmured a few words into the speaker before excusing herself.
"Ms. Kendall, my chauffeur is here. Sorry to waste your good intentions. I would like to go home now."
Angela gave Ms. Parsons an understanding smile.
"Please rest well, Ms. Parsons."
The young woman pressed her lips together while clutching at her handbag.
"If... Mr. Caldwell ever needs me to come again, please contact me at any time."
Her words did not match her body language. She was terrified.
"Of course, Ms. Parsons. Thanks for everything."
Ms. Parsons nodded at everyone respectfully. Her eyes lingered on Aiden and then moved to Aiden's neck briefly before she took her leave. Feeling self-conscious, Aiden pulled his jacket tighter to cover the seal strip on his neck.
After Ms. Parsons left, Angela called a waiter and asked him to discard all the food on the first table.
"Aiden, the buffet table for the human section is over there. You can go choose anything to your liking. The waiter will bring them back to the table."
"Alright."
Serena also left to grab some more wine and blood pudding for all three of them, leaving Nick and Angela alone to chat.
"Who was that Ms. Parsons?"
"That was Jenny Parsons, the eldest daughter from Parsons Group. She came to offer her service to Ryan."
Nick raised her eyebrows at the news.
"She looked frightened. Did Ryan have sex with her?"
Angela scoffed.
"Well, that was the short-term goal last night. The long-term goal was to have Jenny marry into the Caldwell family as wife to the prince, but it is not as easy as it seems."
"She manages to get approval from Lord Marcus Caldwell, which in itself is already an achievement," Nick noted.
"Well, these days the Lord himself is not actively involved in picking a partner for his darling grandson. It is a huge undertaking that wastes too much of his time. This is handled mainly by Ryan's mother."
Serena came back with a waiter in tow. Three glasses of wine and three plates of blood pudding were carefully placed in front of the three vampires.
"I finally come to remember," Serena said while scrutinizing Angela. "You are Ryan Caldwell's assistant. What a coincidence indeed. Is Ryan here?"
Angela laughed.
"No, he left last night."
Serena hummed.
"So that female human being just now was what, his lover?"
Both Angela and Nick shook their heads.
"It was a fail. In the end, Ryan merely took a sip from her neck just as a sign of appreciation. Speaking of which," Angela leaned in and spoke in a lower voice. "Who is this beauty and where does he come from?"
"Our new blood seller," Nick answered. "It was his first time last night. It went smoothly."
"Aah," Angela said with a dreamy voice. "He has quite the look. Also, I seem to have met him before."
"I don't think so. He is from a small town. Harrow Lane."
Angela took a sip from her wine and frowned.
"Odd. It is very unlikely then. Or maybe he just resembles someone that I know."
"Hahaha, maybe."
Aiden came back with another waiter who only brought a plate of chaffles and a cup of hibiscus tea with almond milk. The three vampires gave him a look.
"Is... is something wrong?" Aiden asked, shifting his gaze between the women and his chaffles.
"That's it??? My God, no wonder you are so skinny. Waiter, bring me a plate of everything at the buffet table!" Serena ordered the poor waiter.
At the end of the brunch, Aiden's headache was replaced by a stomachache.
