Ivan's words undoubtedly shattered the stereotype Harry and the others had of magic; it turned out that casting spells didn't have to be so tedious, as long as the wizard was determined enough and could channel the magic freely.
Realizing this, the young wizards, with Ivan's tacit approval, pulled out their wands and eagerly experimented.
Ron kept his eyes on his notebook, trying to get it to burn, but nothing happened.
Hermione, on the other hand, was not as ambitious as the two of them. She waved her wand gently and chanted the Levitation Charm in her mind. A moment later, the notebook in front of her slowly floated up.
"Very good, Miss Hermione Granger has successfully performed a silent spell, and Gryffindor has scored ten points!" Ivan, who had been paying attention to the young witch, naturally did not miss this scene and immediately praised her.
Seamus and the others immediately turned around and saw the notebook floating in the air. They were envious and worked harder.
Yvonne walked around the room, giving instructions to each student, and allowing them to learn the steps Hermione would have to take, starting with the simplest of silent spells and then going from there.
Throughout the whole session, however, only Hermione, Harry, and Malfoy managed to perform the Obscurus.
Fortunately, the other young wizards were not discouraged. This was a very high-end spell-casting technique, and according to Ivan, many Aurors could not do it.
And after a period of hard work, when they silently cast spells, the target would not be unresponsive, but the effects would be extremely unstable.
For example, when Seamus tried to change the colour of his table, he nearly blew it up…
It is worth noting that Seamus attempted to argue that he was using a Blasting Charm, but was soon caught out by Ivan, who could not replicate the same thing.
Ivan waved his wand and turned the lion statue back into a wooden table as he announced loudly, "It's almost time. That's it for today's lesson. The Soundless Spellcasting will be your extracurricular homework for the week. Next Monday, I'll give this house fifty points for the student who mastered the spell the best!"
A Hufflepuff witch in the audience suddenly raised her hand.
"Miss Susan Bones, do you have a question?" Yvonne asked in amazement.
"That's not fair, Professor. We all know you were a Gryffindor student, and you're bound to give your friends special treatment in private," Susan Bones exclaimed.
"No, Miss Bones, you seem to have forgotten that I'm now the professor for all of you, which means that any of you can come to me for advice after school if you encounter something you don't understand… it's the same for everyone," Ivan explained.
"Will we be able to do what you did when you finished this course, without spells or wands?" Seamus asked hopefully.
Instead of answering Seamus's question directly, Ivan said encouragingly, "That depends on whether or not you're taking the subject seriously, and the theory is that anyone can do it without a wand or a spell, although it requires a very advanced magical skill, so you'll have to practise very hard!"
"Do you have any other questions?" Ivan asked, waving his hand as he scanned the students. No one else raised their hands. "Class dismissed!"
When Ivan left the classroom, the students were still talking excitedly about the techniques of Obscurus.
"It's not that hard, if you ask me it's easy to learn…" Malfoy boasted, the second person to complete the Obscurus after Hermione, and a little faster than Harry.
"What's the big deal? He must have been practising it at home!" Ron complained, then turned to Hermione and Harry. "That's what you do, isn't it, Hermione? Harry?"
"Ah, something like that." Harry didn't have the heart to discourage Ron, so he nodded against his will.
Hermione rolled her eyes. She had learnt some of the tricks of the Obscurus with Ivan in advance, but it had not taken her long to master them.
… .
Ten minutes later, Professor McGonagall turned to Ivan and asked him, "How was your first lesson? Did it go well, Hales?"
"Pretty good, as I expected," Yvonne replied with a smile.
"It seems you have a talent for teaching, Hales! I heard some sixth years discussing your class when I arrived! It must be something to do with non-charm-casting, right?" Flitwick said admiringly.
"It's just a Obscurus, to be precise. I intend to have them master it within the week…" Ivan explained, nodding.
Professor McGonagall frowned. "Isn't it a bit early for a sixth year to be learning such high-end techniques?" Less than ten percent of the wizarding population of Great Britain knew how to perform Obscurus.
"Is it hard? I was very skilled in my second year!" Yvonne exclaimed.
McGonagall, Flitwick, and the others looked at Ivan strangely, wanting to complain that not everyone was as freakish as you…
"By the way, who taught you this in the first place, Harls?" Pomona Sprout asked curiously.
"Of course it's soup… ahem, Professor Dumbledore, to be precise. I asked him for advice!" Yvonne said, almost letting it slip.
His non-jinx-spelling skills were naturally learnt from Voldemort's Horcrux Diary, and it was thanks to Tom Riddle's "selflessness" that he was able to progress so quickly, although the truth was obviously not to be told, and Ivan had no choice but to blame it on Dumbledore.
"No wonder," Flitwick muttered to himself, knowing that even the most magical of events would seem natural when Dumbledore was involved.
The only one present who could see that something was amiss was Snape, who knew full well that Dumbledore did not have the luxury of giving pointers to his students, and that Ivan, an imp with many secrets, usually avoided Dumbledore.
Despite knowing all this, Snape kept his mouth shut the entire time, not saying a word, as if he were invisible.
However, Ivan suddenly looked at him and said, "I seem to recall that Professor Snape was able to create a unique charm and modify the potion recipe in his fifth year?"
"Um… not bad." Snape was taken aback for a moment, then he nodded hesitantly, wondering how Ivan knew.
"That's why every student's potential is limitless. We have to trust them fully!" Yvonne declared.
