Ivan waved his wand to ward off the rain, then straightened his clothes and pushed open the door to the hostel.
As soon as they entered, they were greeted by a blast of warm air. The flames of the old-fashioned fireplace on the right wall burned brightly, keeping the cold and humidity at bay.
Yvonne looked around. The hotel was three stories high, presumably to add to the income. The first story had been converted into a small dining room.
Even though it was not yet time for dinner, the long tables around the stove were already filled with guests, presumably those who lived there.
The owner of the hotel was an elderly white man with grey hair and glasses. He was leaning against a chair at the front desk, reading a newspaper intently.
What caught Ivan's attention the most were the two strange robed men in the dining room, who did not seem to fit in with the Muggles around them.
A wizard? Ivan frowned, quickly confirming the other's identity, and couldn't help but feel a little strange. Normally, when a wizard entered Muggle territory, they would have to disguise themselves slightly, at least not so prominently.
Unlike the Leaky Cauldron, the tenants were mostly non-magical Muggles.
Despite his curiosity, Ivan had no intention of making contact with them. These two wizards were definitely not the ones he wanted to see. They were very different in age and appearance, and Ivan didn't want to cause trouble.
This was France, not Britain, and he had important business to attend to, so there was no need to get himself into trouble.
Considering that there was still half an hour until the appointed meeting time, Ivan went to the front desk and asked for lunch. He discreetly found a seat on the side of the table, thought for a moment, then took a white tissue from the wastebasket and placed it on the corner of the table.
This was the contact code that Piers had told him, claiming that Rolfe had specifically requested it. Ivan wanted to complain about this. Why did a good meeting turn into an undercover rendezvous…
Ivan shook his head to himself, then took a couple of bites of the tough baguette and listened with interest as the Muggles around him gossiped about family affairs, somewhat regaining his sense of normalcy.
As he gnawed on his baguette, a voice came from his right.
"It's true, believe it or not, I saw a monster the size of a house two days ago while climbing a mountain. It had three pairs of wings and golden feathers. It's a pity I didn't bring my camera…"
Yvonne turned to see a Muggle in a round hat sharing his strange experiences with friends.
However, not many people believed his words. What era was it now? If there was really such a monster, would it be able to hide? It would have been captured by the army for display…
"I can assure you that everything I say is true! It's been raining every day for the past few days, and it must have something to do with that monster!" the Muggle with the round hat yelled, his face red.
"Come on, Cole, there's nothing original about your story…" scoffed a white woman next to him. "Last week there was talk of some magical wizards coming to the town and starting a fight in the alley with a club, and it turned out to be just a stunt by a couple of jugglers…"
Ivan was amused by their argument, and took a few more looks at the middle-aged Muggle in the round hat, wondering if he should ask him about the Thunderbird.
Ivan's brow furrowed as he focused on the two robed wizards. He could feel a surge of magic coming from them.
The next moment, the white woman who was still talking about "spinning tricks" suddenly fell to the ground, and the chair behind her disappeared.
"Who, who did this?!" The woman got up from the ground in exasperation and turned around angrily, thinking that the wicked person had sneaked over and whipped her seat off. However, there was no one behind her, let alone a chair.
"Annie, your chair seems to have… it seems to have disappeared of its own accord…" said the frightened Muggle named Cole, who had just witnessed the chair under her butt disappear.
"You're saying my chair disappeared on its own? Ridiculous!" Anne shouted in exasperation, but her voice was shaking, and she was beginning to wonder if she had stumbled across a supernatural event in broad daylight.
Several Muggles nearby were dubious, but another scream soon followed.
"Snake… snake!"
A two-meter-long green snake slithered out from under the table. It bent down and flicked its forked tongue, as if it was going to bite someone. The small hostel was instantly in chaos.
Only Ivan, sitting in a remote corner, could see that the two wizards were behind this.
He could understand being teased and made fun of by a few Muggles, but it would be too much if he actually intended to hurt someone…
With that thought in mind, Ivan removed the baguette from his mouth and threw it gently to the ground.
After landing, the long baguette rapidly twisted into a serpentine mayfly, jumped out of everyone's blind spot, bit the serpent's tail, and pulled it out of the window.
In just a second, the snake, which had been strutting around arrogantly, was taken away by an animal that had come out of nowhere. Everyone was momentarily stunned.
The two interrupted wizards looked at Ivan with hostile expressions, but before they could act out, the hotel door burst open.
The intruders were five grey-clad Aurors…
When they saw who it was, the expressions of the two wizards changed drastically. They did not even bother to teach the brat who had disturbed their fun a lesson. They pulled out their wands and prepared to run.
Too late, the Aurors attacked the moment they saw them.
"Excellarmus ~ (excluding your weapon)"
"Petrificus ~ (All petrified)"
"Stupefy ~ (Stupefy)"
… .
Seven or eight spells quickly struck the two wizards, who could not dodge in time, and the battle ended in a matter of seconds.
The Muggles in the hotel stared wide-eyed at the battle that defied common sense and was enough to shatter their worldview.
"Magic, it's magic … they're wizards!" Annie screamed.
The Auror leader was obviously very experienced and did not panic. He cast a Confunding Charm, and the seven Muggles present sat back in their seats, dazed.
The remaining Aurors then skillfully cast Memory Charms on each Muggle to make them forget things they shouldn't remember and restore the tables and chairs that had been destroyed during the fight.
