"In your dreams. Hand over the money. Do what you promised!" An Auror looked at the smelly socks in Mrs. Peter's hand and waved his hand in disgust.
"Really, you can't even help with such a small matter!" Madam Peter pursed her lips and took out a few Galleons from her pocket. She threw them over, but her legs were trembling. She was secretly relieved.
The sock in her hand was, in fact, a Portkey in disguise. She had bought it with all her money from the Wizarding Market in Knockturn Alley, and while it did not look out of place, the Aurors would have been able to tell that something was amiss if they had examined it.
As such, she had no choice but to retreat, taking a gamble that he would refuse.
Fortunately, as she expected, the Aurors were reluctant to help put dirty socks on a criminal.
Mrs Peter could not help but smile.
In fact, she had intended to use the Portkey to teleport away with Pettigrew while they were in the cell.
However, the interior of Azkaban was so well-defended that not only was transfiguration prohibited, even the Portkey was rendered useless.
Thus, she took the risk of stunning the Auror supervising her and pretending to be the Auror in an attempt to get to Pettigrew.
Fortunately, this backup plan went well…
As she rejoiced, Mrs Peter controlled her emotions and tried not to show anything. She approached step by step, but her body still trembled slightly from nervousness.
The tall, thin Auror, who had been keeping an eye on her, became aware of this and his eyes narrowed. As Mrs Peter slowly approached, he suddenly spoke.
"Wait…"
"What's wrong?" Mrs. Peter's heart was in her mouth. She tried to pretend that she was calm as she turned to look at him.
"How about this? It's not good to take your money for nothing. Why don't we help him wear it?" The tall and skinny Auror stared at Madam Peter and said word by word. His hand was already secretly pressing on the wand at his waist.
The other Auror did not react at first, but he sensed that something was wrong when his colleagues looked at him. He took a few steps forward and spoke to Mrs Peter.
"Bring it to me!"
Madam Peter was caught between a rock and a hard place. If she handed over the Portkey, she would be found out immediately. If she did not, the two Aurors would attack her.
She knew very well that she had no chance of defeating them, especially as the two Aurors seemed to be on their guard…
The silence lasted no more than a second before the tall, skinny Auror pulled out his wand and prepared to attack.
Mrs Peter said in surprise.
"What's wrong with you guys? Why are you suddenly so jumpy? I told you to go, but you said it's dirty. How ridiculous! Take it, it'll save me some trouble…"
Madam Peter looked at the two of them strangely and casually threw her smelly socks at one of the Aurors.
The latter was surprised by Mrs Peter's decisiveness and wondered if she was thinking too much.
As soon as he touched it, the Auror immediately sensed that something was wrong. The texture did not feel like socks at all…
Unfortunately, it was too late.
Mrs Peter activated the Portkey at the same time as she threw the object, and the Auror suddenly felt as if something had hooked onto his navel, tugged on it, and disappeared in a whirl.
"Arnold!"
The unexpected turn of events caught Tall and Slender Auror by surprise, but he immediately recognised the effect of the Portkey and, with little hesitation, waved his wand at her.
"Expelliarmus!"
A red beam of light bursts from the tip of the wand…
However, it was a hasty attack. Madam Peter easily dodged it with her young body, and then she fiercely counterattacked.
"Shattered!"
Mrs Peter screamed at the top of her lungs, pouring her anger into the spell. She had been forced to use the Portkey to send an Auror away, and now she had to kill the Auror in order to escape.
As she expected, the spell's beam hit its intended target, and Mrs Peter, overjoyed, failed to notice the coldness in the other woman's eyes…
The protective glove on Tall and Slender Auror's right hand glowed faintly, and the spell's beam of light returned the way it had come, crashing into Madame Peter herself.
It was a furious blow that made the original owner suffer.
AAAAAAARGH!!!
The pain of her body being torn apart caused Madam Peter to let out a shrill cry. Her wand fell from her hand and fell to the ground. Deep gashes were opened in her abdomen, and scarlet blood flowed out of them…
Due to the severity of her injuries, Mrs Peter fell to the ground and clutched at her wounds.
Mrs Peter's appearance gradually changed from that of a young Auror to that of an old, grey-haired witch… combined with the terrible wound on her upper abdomen, she looked very sad.
The tall and thin Auror, however, showed no sympathy at all. He only felt unlucky that he had almost been tricked by an old woman.
More crucially, one of his two colleagues had been teleported away, and the other was either dead or alive.
The tall, thin Auror kicked Madam Peter hard, sending her rolling, and prepared to interrogate her about Jack and the others…
