"I'm leaving you in charge, Cat. Please don't destroy the city while I'm gone."
"Don't worry, M'lady~ Everything will be fine."
"And then I told my mom that I wanted to stay home from school." Lila carried on with her story while you listened closely. "She said that I needed a real excuse, and that's when I decided to fake an akuma devastation. Clever, right?"
You nodded your head and walked upstairs. Lila suddenly stopped talking and pulled you back. You were about to question her when she shushed you.
"It's Adrien."
She turned to you and grasped your shoulders. "I'll only be a minute, why don't you go hang out with that other loser, Marc?" Your eyes trailed over to Adrien who was talking with Nino.
"Of course, Lila. Whatever you say," you said with a smile. She smiled and patted your head before turning on her heel and walking away. You scanned the room and saw Marc sitting alone at a table.
You walked with Lila doen the steps of the school while listening to her go on about Adrien. You couldn't help but hang your head in self pity though. Hearing her talk almost made you...sad.
"And then he said he'd meet me in- (Y/n)? Hey," dhe called ad she poked your head. "Hey, are you lietening to me, loser?" You blinked and looked at her.
"O-oh, yeah...Sorry, Lila." She sighed and rolled her eyes. "Honestly, (Y/n). You need to pay more attention. No guy'd evee gonna fall for you if you don't get your head out of the clouds."
You looked forward and sat at the steps. Lila sat next to you. "I know. I'll try harder."
You gave her a closed eye smile as she patted your head. "Good." She pulled out her phone and glanced at the screen.
"Adrien will be back from fencing practice in about an hour," she said while tapping her chin. She hummed as she scrolled through her phone. You shifted awkwardly in your spot and waited patiently.
"Ah...I'm bored."
You checked your phone and tapped the screen. Footsteps sounded from behind you and a sweet voice greeted y'all. "Hey, girls."
You turned to see Adrien giving you that dazzling smile of his. "Oh, Adrien! How was your...uh...thingie?" Lila asked. Adrien chuckled.
"Fencing went well. I didn't beat Kagami, though..." Lila threw her arms around Adrien and patted his head. "Awe, you'll beat her next time, sweetie."
Adrien spared you a glance as he sweet dropped. "Uh...yeah, right. Well..." He let his voice trail off when we heard a car pull up.
Adrien pushed Lila away slightly and smoothed out his outfit. "Well, that's my ride. See you tomorrow, girls." Adrien said whilst waving back at y'all. Lila waved and blew him a kiss.
You waved back and smiled. Adrien was always a sweet kid. You could see why Lila liked him so much.
He was active, cute, smart, and kind. What's not to love? "Ahem."
You blinked and forced your attention to Lila who had a brow raised and looking at you. Her gaze was intimidating. So you looked away.
"You like him, don't you?"
Her words caused your eyes to grow and your face to heat up. Lila crossed her arms and huffed. "N-no! What ever gave you that thoyght, Lila? I would ne-"
"Cut the crap, (Y/n). I'm not stupid." She looked away and to the sky. You hung your head low.
"Lila...I would never do that to you." You tried to reason with her. She only stayed silent. After a few moments of just sitting there, she sighed.
"I know you wouldn't. And that's why I'm reminding you," she started as she folded her hands and looked you straight in the eyes. "Stay. Away. From my. Man."
Her words hit you like a bolt of lightning. You frowned as you stared into her now angry brown eyes. "Am I clear?"
You couldn't do it. You couldn't say yes. Adrien was your friend!
A moment passed when Lila suddenly jerked your arm. "Am I clear?" She growled. You winced at the slight pain but pulled back.
"N-no." Her face went blank before she snickered. "I'm sorry, what?" You averted your gaze and pursed your lips together before speaking.
"I said...no. I can be friends with whomever I want, Lila." Lila laughed and stood up. "Have fun with that. Without me, you're nothing." She spoke.
Before she walked away she thought of something. She looked at you and said, "You were slowing me down anyway." Then she walked off, leaving you by yourself and regretting everything you said.
The thought of Lila leaving you made your heart wrench. Her words played through your head. And that's when it hit you.
Lila was using you. Using you like a puppet on a string. Her friendship was nothing more than...an illusion...
And that's when the first tear fell. You quickly stood up and wiped it away before anyone saw. Well, at least you could hang around with Adrien now.
That is...if he's not fake too...
You were at home thinking over what Lila had said to you. You told yourself you weren't going to cry. She wasn't worth the tears.
But finding out that your best friend was using you this whole time isn't something you can just shake off. And sealing off the pain wasn't working too well. You heard a knock on your door and your mom peeked inside.
"Hunny, are you alright?"
You looled up and gave a small smile. "Y-yeah, Mom. I'm just tired, thanks." She looked at you for another second or two before saying, "Ok...dinner will be ready shortly."
You curtly nodded your head and she closed the door. You gave a long sigh and slumped back on your bed. "I'm so stupid..."
You ran a hand over your face ans felt a sudden chill. The room got...darker somehow. And that's when you felt it.
An akuma.
A gasp fell from your lips as you were taken over by Hawkmoth. You could see his horrid smirk. It sickened you.
You grimaced at the villain. He chuckled. "Volpina, are you-"
"Shut it, Hawkmoth! I won't listen to you!" You protested. His face not faltered, he carried on. "...Are you tired of having no friends?" He let you think for a moment before going on.
"Are you craving revenge?" He let you dwell on it once more. You hung your head in shame.
"...Yes..."
