Chaos ensued—outrage ensued.

All Casimir could do was watch.

Beside him, Neva muttered, “Goddess d*mn that fur-for-brains.”

Never mind the fact that she belonged to the Blacktooth pack now, Cas told her, “Go home, niece.”

She narrowed her eyes. “What are you going to do?”

Shani was frozen in terror even as she was shoved and yelled at. It took Danior a moment to realize his own words caused harm to her before storming toward her. Cas saw an unfamiliar Bloodrose female, as well as a young Epsilon male, block his path, pointing an accusing finger at the Alpha, snarling. The male was trying to get her to move, to help her escape.

Cas couldn’t find a word to describe it all.

Alphas announcing their heir—their successor—was a big deal. It presented the pack with a personality that they could deem right or wrong for the future of that pack. The name gave them hope or despair. It put a body upfront or hail or target.
