Chapter 171: Suspicion

Law enforcements and emergency services arrived on the scene but it was solved already, the flames and damages were put out and those who were injured were healed to their best physical conditions as well, but 3 children of the particular orphanage were dead.

Perseus helped in the reports, all got killed by collapsing pieces of the building and knocked them out instantly, internal bleeding due to trauma and other factors, Perseus can't come immediately due to the large range of spatial distortions and spatial disturbance at the borders.

It's took a few minutes as the directors have to help get some of the kids out before one have to call the ranked over and the emergency services as nearby people joined in to help, but 3 people died by the time he got there, Perseus also commented on the flames being intentional and he gave his best detailed report as he then went in to check on the survivors.

And let's just say that his expression is not something someone want to see, he easily switched from just sadness to anger, and his angry expression...let's just say that once they find out who it was, angering a ranker is something they don't want to do.

The survivors were immediately brought to a nearby hospital for further inspection and the bodies were healed to normal again after emergency services confirmed the injuries, there was magic involved and as much as they want to suspect Perseus since he arrived too quickly, they can't.

But once they got back and put the data of the mana signature into the database, they found out something, despite being little mana traces left on the scene, they found out a few things.

Due to it being very recent, Perseus got a device to record the mana traces left on the scene, despite being only a little left, they found that the traces were rich and dense...it isn't on a ranked level, but one on the border...so the culprits are either retired rankers, or named who are within the top 50 currently since some of them may just have the mana dense enough, a fringe ranker.

But the person behind this was at least good enough to hide who the mana belong to, if Perseus didn't come, the emergency services would have no mana signatures to trace or any evidence of the fire being a intentional heinous act of crime, they investigated the scene, the only evidence they got were from Perseus, everything else were covered up properly.

So if Perseus never arrived, the fault would have been placed on the directors for their carelessness, but due to Perseus being the only person having the evidence, he is placed on the suspect list, though he is placed very low, a short interview for the people on the scene and the survivors vouch for the teenager, but for now, he will have to stay on the list.

It's too suspicious that only he have the evidence, along with other suspicions, until he can truly prove himself 100% innocent, he will stay on the list until the case is fully solved.

"Stupid ranker, can't even rely on him to cause mass paranoia and chaos to kill one person I requested." the man with jade eyes growled "Do I seriously have to whisper every suggestion to his head? I gave him so many information, so many! USELESS!"

His subordinates, especially the 2 nobles, Tachima and Ben, who were just summoned, are extremely scared as they kept their head down when they knelt in his presence. They didn't dare speak up, they already messed up by forcing the situation of having to give up a jade fragment to the other side.

"You 2." he spoke after he calmed down "Try to hide as much information as possible, this case will lead back to him, Zach is a very hard individual to kill since he's crafty, even if we manage to kill him ourselves, the Mirage Legion will find a way to trace it back to us, Zach will leave clues no matter what, so find a way to delay the investigation till Vardan do his job so we can pin it on him after we get away with what we want."

"Sir, as for how we do this, how much are we allowed to do?" Tachima asked "At the cost of our lives till we complete it or should we escape if we observe no to little chance of success."

"The latter, I still have a use for you 2." their master replied

Perseus POV

"You guys, alright?" I asked Axel and Mary after handing cold water bottles

"Why are the kids being questioned?" Axel asked

"In case they see anyone suspicious or know someone who they think were weird the past few days, but I doubt they would find anything to be honest, I may work with em sometimes, but unlike them, I don't sugarcoat, the kids will probably not get any lead since I do technically know who the culprit is."

"The-Then why don't you tell them who it is?"

"I can't, cuz it's only the nickname that I know." I replied as I sat opposite of them on a couch "The heart ripper of the vampire world, as for how I pieced it together, I can't say it, so I'll probably be put on the suspect list after refusing to tell how I pieced that together, well until I'll tell it to my superiors, the Lagunas."

The public does not need to know what the red jades are yet, but to think they did it so quick, I'm actually blacklisted from getting information about this case since I'm currently a suspect, until I'm proven innocent by telling my direct superiors how I pieced it together, who will then have to vouch for me and I can help with the case.

My suspicions might just be right, a named or someone of that strength might just be the person who is behind this case, based on the mana, it isn't someone of the power of the ranked, unless it's a retired one. Or this heart ripper is several people who wanted to lead me away for some reason.

Is this caused by the children of Zeus to lure me away from my sister...? If I dash back now, I'll cast more suspicion on myself, so until I can clear myself here.
